“disappointed”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Having been to a number of all-inclusives over the years, I rate this property the worst.

Room: plain, unable to accommodate our request for kingbed, double beds were extremely hard.

Things to do in the property: other than the pool, there was really nothing else. No kayaks, canoes, snorkeling, nightclub. The gameroom was pathetic. The pool close at 6pm along with all the outside bars (the drinks made from the cheapest generic brand). The snack bar is open only in the afternoon. On certain days of the week, if you did not eat at the theater at 6:30pm and you did not have a reservation at the restaurant, there would be no food available in the all-inclusive except paying for room service. While on the topic of food, this hotel is absolutely the worst. They saturate the cheap meat with so much tenderizer/chemical that it may be dangerous for some people. I understand that different people have differing tastes and difference of opinions but for some of the reviews that rate the food excellent, really????

Eventhough the vacation package was not expensive, I still felt ripped off...and on that note, this property have a number of timeshare members.

Stayed at the Royal Solaris, an "all inclusive" for the Hennessey's World Paddleboard Campion race. The hotel is in a beautiful location, however the food was a major disappointment. The same ingredients are available locally. Other restaurants do a much better job. Won't stay here again. Others in our group are moving to the Hilton. Great choice. I'm going home to Los Angeles.

The Royal Solaris in San Jose del Cabo, BCS, Mexico, is an all inclusive price plan hotel and membership resort. Great location and wonderful beach on the Sea of Cortez. Room are clean and large. The swimming pool is very large and lots of wading and water park areas for children. The staff was friendly, but housekeeping missed cleaning our room one day, so I would say not always efficient.

The biggest disappointment was in the quality of food and beverage selection. Do not expect to find the best brands in the bar or on the wine list. Only the cheap brands or "tourist" brands were offered. However, if you brought you own bottle of good quality wine to the dinning room, they would gladly provide corkage service at no additional fee. Do not expect to find Gray Goose vodka or Don Julio Anjeo on the bar's back shelf.

The only resturant worth eating dinner in the hotel is the Marco Polo. Over four days, we only had to return one entre back to the kitchen (poor quality piece of porkloin was tough and tasted spoiled). Soups and deserts were outstanding. All the buffets were of poor quality. Dinner theatre was OK, but the meal caused us to want to leave and go eat elsewhere.

In the evening we would have enjoyed dancing in the lounge bar. However, the volumn of the music was so loud that it hurt our ears. Many more romantic dance places in San Jose to go to, so skip the lobby bar dance floor.

All things considered, I would select a different hotel next time unless I was just looking for an affordable place to take a family with small children. Adults and romantic couples go elsewhere.

We spent 6 days at this hotel and were SO ready to go back home! The hotel itself is fine - basic but fine. Rooms are spacious and were clean, but boring. The staff, as everyone says, are fantastic. They really do go out of their way to give you a smile and an Hola! However, there are too many negatives for us to return here. Only ONE restaurant other than buffet were open each night. Really? This meant for 2 nights we had a wait of over 30 minutes. That's inexcusable in an all inclusive resort. The food in the restaurants is mediocre AT BEST. Everything tastes the same - bland, boring and luke warm. Two days the pool snack bar wasn't even open. So, nothing to eat anywhere until lunch or dinner. ???

Another thing - there is NOTHING going on at night. And I mean nothing after 6pm. The pool bar and bar outside of the pool close. The only thing open is the lobby bar. Who wants to sit INSIDE in Mexico and have a drink?!?! How do they not have a bar outside for the evening so you can enjoy a drink and listen to the ocean? Crazy! We were shocked to find out there was nothing open outside. BORING!

The beach vendors are most definitely there. If you say no they leave you alone but be prepared for another one to come along right behind the first. So much for relaxing on the beach.

I really hate giving a poor rating but this was by far the poorest resort we have been to in all of our vacations. Places like this are what give all-inclusives a bad rap.

I agree with other reviewers that the service at the hotel was great. I was treated excellent but what I most liked was the food prepared by the chefs there. It was excellent and elegant. Can't wait to come back.

I just returned from my 7-day trip to Cabo today. I will definitely be planning another trip but not going to stay here.

The food was absolutely HORRIBLE. We went off the resort most nights for dinner because everything there was so bad. My sister had mold on part of her breakfast & when she showed our server he said 'okay' then put her plate on the tray with other dirty dishes..actually, that's not 'okay'. The resort also got mad at us for ordering pizza one night...they told us not to do that because they have food there. They should probably realize that no one wants to eat their food.

I definitely recommend bringing your own cup if you are planning on drinking by the pool. The cups are tiny & I felt like I needed to order 4 at a time.

The entertainment team didn't seem to be very mature. I felt like they had a bunch of high school kids acting like idiots to "entertain" the guests. They didn't act mature but if you go to one of their evening shows they certainly dress 'mature'. If this resort is so great for families, those girls should probably put some more clothes on.

The resort was also offering additional activities throughout the week but they charged $45-55/person. I thought this was all inclusive?

Great walking distance to San Jose for food & shopping but I think next time I will stay in Cabo San Lucas - that seems to be where all the fun is at.

The ONLY reasons I enjoyed the stay here were Carlos & Armando in the lobby! They seemed to be the only people working there that had a personality & they both had great suggestions for places to go & things to do. Keep up the great work guys!

Everything about the resort is great! From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. The entire staff was friendly, room clean, food plentiful and delicious, nicely designed garden and pool area and the beach is wonderful. The night shows were entertaining with incredible talent... special thanks to Zoe, Rachel, Nadya, Victor, Pancho, Mac, Erick, and Danny Boy !! Hope to see all of you soon!
