More attraction details
Attraction details
Owner description: Organic Tour in Huerta Los Tamarindos: 45 minutes, 6 guest minimum, $38 USD. Guests arrive and congregate under the large mango tree where they are offered fresh juice or iced lemon grass tea. As this is a working organic farm with strict hygiene standards, they will be asked to wash and disinfect their hands before the tour begins. Baskets and scissors will be distributed for collecting produce from the field, and participants will receive an instructional flier with information on organic agriculture. As the tour continues to the field, the guide, an agricultural engineer with vast experience as an organic farmer, will point out different aromatic herbs and vegetables, demonstrate the proper way to pick each of them, and explain what it takes to become a certified organic farm and how this differs from conventional farming. The last 10 minutes of the tour will be devoted to questions and answers from the tour group. There will be an opportunity for guests to use the restroom or have another glass of juice or iced tea. The tour will end in the ranch house, affording guests the opportunity to purchase a variety of products produced on the farm, including tomato sauce, and infused oils.

What a wonderful explosion of flavor and freshness! We are re-constructing our kitchen in San Jose del Cabo which means we have to eat out for every meal. While we are mostly pleasantly surprised with the quality we receive, we just can't rave enough about our first rate experience at Los Tamarindos! It was top notch! The service was fabulous, the grounds immaculate, the guests were impressive (several country officials were guests when we were there) and the food was out of this world. All grown on the property and the recipes were a delight to our senses. It was truly a wonderful experience - and quite romantic as well for our anniversary :) They took the time to show us (and let us taste) Tamarind straight from the tree. Really class place.

I visited Baja Sur in January 2012. Prior to my holiday, I found Huerta Los Tamarindos, San Jose del Cabo offered cooking classes (http://www.huertalostamarindos.com/). I contacted Los Tamarindos, via their email address, to inquire about classes offered while I was there. Lulu contacted me within 24 hours and we were able to set up a class that suited my schedule.

The cooking class (and organic farm tour) is $85US. It is well worth it. The experience far exceeded my expectations. The tour and cooking class was lead by Chef Enrique Silva, who is the owner of the farm. Enrique also has two restaurants in San Jose - which serve his produce. Chef Enrique is also an agricultural engineer - well informed not only as a farmer, but a USDA Certified Organic Farmer.

There were 3 other students (wonderful classmates from New Mexico), in the class with me. After the farm tour, the cooking class took place in a beautifully restored brick building, as the site use to be a sugar cane plantation. We each had our own station to work on our food preparation under the guidance of Chef Enrique. The meal, which consisted of 4 courses, was prepared with ingredients picked from the farm that day. The flavour of the ingredients alone were wonderful - combined into a dish was simply out of this world - simplicity / freshness / presentation - and with a history of the cuisine.

The class is 4 hours in duration and finished with students and chef seated outside, overlooking the farm - bliss. The meal was paired with a crisp local chardonnay from Valle du Guadalupe from Baja Norte.

This is a must for anyone that has an interest in cooking, regional cuisine, farming, field to fork philosophy, local / sustainable cuisine. A great way to spend a day in Baja.
