Casa Natalia
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 3, 2012

Casa Natalia has undeniable charm. My superior suite was delightful, with private terrace, spacious bedroom/living room area, and a large, well-appointed bathroom. The staff was warm and friendly, the grounds and pool area were gorgeous, and the service was pleasant.

I had asked for a quiet room, and thus was in the furthest building from reception and the bar/restaurant. I was grateful for the distance when the Friday night rooftop party generated considerable noise. While hotel guests were given freebie passes to the party, I would have preferred a quiet evening and restaurant service - it was closed in order to cater the event, which was a marketing ploy to show off a new, high-end suite. I felt like this compromised the hotel's service to paying guests, and was less than happy about it -- especially given the price point for this hotel.

Lighting in the bathroom, as noted by another reviewer, is weak, but as I was only staying for one night, it wasn't a big issue. More disappointing was the tepid water temperature in the shower. The weather was actually on the cool side at the time, so lack of truly hot water was annoying. Unfortunately, by the time I discovered the problem, it was late evening, so I didn't report it until checkout.

Wifi was included, and reliable. There was good storage space, and an in-room safe. I particularly loved my private terrace (hammock included!), and having a wonderful breakfast delivered there was a fantastic way to start the day. The service was prompt and the food was excellent.

Little touches like a cooler of ice (neatly tucked into a wicker basket) near each room, a "real" hair dryer, a magnifying mirror, bathrobes that were comfortably sized instead of gigantic, extra glassware, lots of windows for great cross-ventilation, and a disguised a/c unit (not needed given the prevailing temps), were appreciated. The location, right on the corner of the town square, is hard to beat, although road construction in the area presents some minor inconveniences at the moment.

All in all, Casa Natalia is a lovely property that could be perfect with a few tweaks. I'd stay again, but I'd check the water temp before shower time and I'd ask if there were any public events planned during my stay.

Room Tip: I'd suggest being as far from reception as possible.

We recently spent a total of three nights at the Casa Natalia, one before a cruise and two afterward. It's an amazing place. It's small, but for us that was a plus. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, each with a different theme, and include a lovely private porch complete with a hammock. The staff were very helpful with assisting with transportation to and from the cruise, which was a little complicated given our itineraries. We used the private transfer option which is not the cheapest but certainly the most convenient for us. I'm convinced that barkeeper Arturo makes the best Mojito in Mexico. The small bar, restaurant and pool areas made it easy to chat with other guests (mostly American). The hotel is located right on the square, so there is some noise, but it was not bothersome on the nights we were there. The restaurant is so good that we found chose to eat several meals right there rather than going out. My only complaint -- for me, the bed was rock hard. I ended up putting the couch cushions on the bed and covering them with the spare blanket. But I'd go back in a heartbeat. A slice of heaven!

Room Tip: The views and privacy are much better on the upper level. Worth the extra cost. If noise is a conc...

Casa Natalia is a beautiful hotel with a lot of charm.
We stayed in la Estrella and its features
include a patio that is conveniently located next to the pool.
The bed was perfectly made with flowers placed on top
of the linens and the room was very clean and well decorated.

The hotel is easily within walking distance to many shops and
restaurants in San Jose del Cabo. We would recommend Mi Casa
and the French Riviera.

Parking was a challenge during our stay due to road construction and a
fair the night that we stayed, although not due to any fault of Casa Natalia.
Many thanks to Caesar and Placido for going above and beyond in helping us
with this issue. If you are driving your car to stay at the hotel, you might
want to check ahead to be certain that you have the latest
directions and information.

Our stay was short but the hotel is truly beautiful and the
staff are friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: la Estrella is very close to the pool

We stayed here in early March 2012. The roadworks were still ongoing (see Jetray67's review), but didn't disturb us at all.
The staff were excellent, and very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was very good, and priced accordingly. We had breakfast every day, which was excellent, and varied. We only ate there one night, and it was good, but expensive. When we go abroad, we try to eat at different places every night - you'd be amazed at the variety!
A couple of downers about the Casa Natalia: the beds were very hard (although the staff found me some foam to soften it after the first sleepless night!) The 'waterfall' is a flow of water out of a pipe about 15 feet above the pool. Unfortunately this was on from 6am to 11pm, and was not conducive to early nights or sleep-ins in the morning.
The Casa is a long narrow complex, and so the sun is only on the pool for a very limited time each day.
We enjoyed staying here as it was at the centre of San Jose (right next to the Square - which can be quite noisy if there are celebrations going on - check before you book). For our 'beach' days, we went to the Hilton, which is mid-way between San Jose and Cabo. Taxi there and back was $30, and you can use their facilities and only pay for the food and drink. Their beach is an awesome, with a swimming cove - although the water is a bit chilly!

Room Tip: There are 3 levels of rooms. The higher ones probably get more sunshine - see review.

After all good things I have heard about this hotel I was really not impressed , we have been told that the outside works on the road next door will not disturb us however it seemed that the noise was happening in our room !
Room look a little like a bunker, the door which gives on the terrace do not close.
We wanted to swim in the pool but as it was windy there were a lot of dirt, leaves etc but nobody cleaned it !
Very good location

We stayed in attractive accomodations and were bowled over by the attentive and personalized service. It must be a requirement to work there that the staff is personable and friendly. And boy does it show!
The pool area is tranquil, quiet and relaxing.
The restaurant is excellent and serves well executed international and Mexican cuisine. Excellent in every way.

The smallest criticism: the bath products could be of higher quality and bars of soap larger.

Room Tip: The spa suites are nice with their hammock, hot tub and sundeck.
