Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos All-Inclusive
Ranked #15 of 43 Hotels in San Jose del Cabo
Certificate of Excellence

We were thrilled with everything about this resort. We travel to 4 star hotels at least once a year with our family of four so we have a good deal of experience in all types of hotels. This hotel offered less marble than other resorts but it was adobe and more "mexican". All of the restaurants, rooms, pools and facilities were clean and well maintained. We were thrilled with the expansive beach - you can walk for miles in both directions. The food was good with many options every day and night.
The highlight for us was the kids care. It was located at the pool so our kids could run back and forth from the kid area to us allowing us hours of relaxation and they were thrilled to meet others, take a break from the sun and they thoroughly enjoyed the games and crafts offered every day. The ladies working in that area were really wonderful. Our kids woke up and wanted to go there right away.
We highly recommend this over some of the resorts in Cabo who are more concerned about expensive accommodations that lack good customer service and attention to family fun.

We stayed from Feb 1 - Feb 7 (2014). We were in two ground floor rooms. The rooms were very clean and room service did a great job every day. The mattresses were brand new and very firm. We wanted a softer bed so they provided a foam pad on top. This helped a lot.

The ground floor rooms have hammocks which were nice. We also had good access to food, bars, pools, and the beach. The pools were very big, clean, and the main one had a swim up bar. The bartenders were very attentive and would make anything you asked.

Breakfasts were excellent, these were my favorite meal of the day. They had lots of pastries and all the other breakfast staples. For lunch you can eat at the taco bar or at a bar/grill type building right on the beach. Dinner options varied. The ones I liked the best were over by the large stage that had dinner and a show. Great way to spend an evening on the ocean.

The beach was enormous. It was incredibly clean. I was really amazed. The sand is not the pure white sand like in florida but it was still nice. I fly sport kites and I could not have found a larger nicer beach to fly on. The beach was never crowded and the pan handlers were never a bother. (They are at every beach in Mexico, the ones by this beach never bothered us. They would talk if you approached them, but that was it).

The all inclusive food service ended around 10, so plan accordingly. The bars were open longer. There were always nice places to sit with friends and have drinks or play games.

There were definite adult areas (lots of drinking, party games, and raucous behavior - actually very entertaining) and more child friendly pool areas without the loud people. There was also one very quiet secluded area and bar for those who want peace and quiet.

The town was a close walk. It was a very clean and there were some good restaurants. I never felt unsafe while walking to/from town.

Overall, the grounds were immaculately maintained and the service was top notch. I have been to many resorts in Mexico, some were fancier, some were bigger, but none had better service. Everyone was happy to help and they really strived to make you feel welcome. I would go again for sure.

To all the employees at the resort, thank you for making our stay so great.

I enjoyed the stay but you might wonder why after reading about little things to watch for. The orientation map is almost useless because it is so schematic. Directions from the lobby are poor even though signage is good inside each of the three-storey buildings. The zig-zag buildings have connecting walkways at each level. The bathroom light switch is hidden one inch above the counter. You may have to turn the shower on a full two minutes early before hot water arrives. The coffee is nice but inexplicably disappears between meal times although you get a coffee maker in the room. At meals, milk is available next to the juices but otherwise there is only creamer substitute. Luckily I drink coffee black. Though there are lots of nice buns and sweet pastries, margarine is the only option. If you book a tour, they start pickups at Cabo San Lucas and get to the Holiday Inn last of all. This was a huge problem on our second tour which put us in the back on seats raised so high we could not see out the windows. No one points out the obvious until you ask, that you can keep your all-inclusive bracelet after checking out at noon, while waiting for the bus. And when the receptionist tells you to put your luggage in the safe room off the lobby, that means you are to find someone to tag it and put it in there for you.

We had "partial ocean view" and this was just wonderful. Who needs more? The rooms were clean, the bed firm, everything worked, the room had several accessible plugs (with the same slots as US and Canada).

Location appealed to us. The Holiday Inn is at the east end of the Hotel beach. The almost deserted beach continues east with a freshwater lagoon on one side and beautiful pure-sand beach on the other. You won't find shells but if you sit patiently in the morning you may see small crabs popping up everywhere. We saw humpbacks off-shore one day. 35 minutes up the beach is the Puerto where a dolphin swimming show is located and a small safe public swimming beach. Just out the front door is an appealing walk along the estuary and river which is lined with great herons. The town centre or the MEGA shopping centre are both less than half an hour's walk away. Many of the other Cabo hotels are too far from a town for walking.

I love my food and much of the dining was disappointing. Lots of dishes were on offer but the offerings were kind of similar. For breakfast, there's a lineup for the omelettes but everything else is easy to get to. The variety of desserts is excellent and tasty. Apart from a couple egg plant dishes and some rolled fish fillets, there wasn't much that I could roll about in my mouth and really savour. Staff were fine at all times.

Would I go back? Maybe not. The people were fine, the rooms and grounds were fine, location was excellent. Weather was wonderful. We were free to organize our own time. Food wasn't memorable but was still fun in the all-inclusive way.

Room Tip: Because of the zig zag layout, every room has a good ocean view. Ground floors have hammocks but les...

This resort was a very pleasant surprise because we have stayed at other all-inclusives in Mexico and this was one of the best in the moderate price range. The staff are very friendly, and if you speak a little Spanish, they really seem to enjoy chatting with the resort guests. Our room (superior garden view) was comfortable, clean and quiet. The location is excellent, with the adjacent estuary, a pleasant walk to the old town, and lovely beach (but no swimming due to strong undertows). Several pools are available, including a quiet adult pool. We found the food quite good, with seveal choices of restaurants and times to eat. No reservations needed. It was quite hot in the afternoons, but there always seemed to be a spot with a nice breeze. The only downside was loud music in almost every public area starting at breakfast and going into the night. However, our room was on the quite side of the complex, so we didn't hear it there. We would definitely return to this resort.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the estuary if you do not want to hear the music.

Would not return and would not recommend! Our flight was cancelled the first day due to weather (not the hotels fault) however when we tried to check in the following day we were told our room was "not ready" even though we had paid for it since the day before- we were told that our room "was sold" since we did not show up even though I had emailed the front desk manager-we were not offered a different room and had to wait until almost 5pm Friday to get into a room even though we had paid for it since Thursday. The manager offered us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience which we declined as it was all inclusive. Food was bad, repetitive and lukewarm at best. Phone did not work all week even though reported to the desk 3 times. Maids forgot something everyday (towels, water, toilet paper). Long lines for a la carte restaurants-you had to wait in line at night thinking you were waiting for a table when actually it was the line to make a reservation then told to come back in 1 hour for a table. Only had service in buffets (both breakfast and dinner) only 1 time the whole week- needed to get our own coffee from a different room and go to the bar to get a drink at night. Could not get coffee to go. I guess you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: We booked a deluxe oceanview but all we go was a window- upgraded to an oceanfront room 7119- very n...

Spent 2 weeks from Jan 26 and this is our second time. Definitely met our expectations.
impressed that they earned the Trip Advisor Award of Excellence for 2013! Congratulations to the Employees
No complaints about the food because all inclusive is only for certain people
Wonderfully built omelets to your liking. Thank you Amando!!!
The sweets and breads are incredible and so were the tacos and quesadillas.
Of course we have to thank Alma because she is so awesome!! Wonderful person who makes great drinks and is so personable.
Great that they removed the standing in line for reservations to the ala cartes
Clean rooms, yes the beds are hard but still slept well. Enjoyed the walk along the estuary and seeing the birds as well as cows in the water eating.
Not only did we feel safe at the Holiday Inn we felt safe in the whole area.
Really enjoyed the Mexican show as well as the Mexican buffet on 2 occasions.

Thanks for looking after all of this for our enjoyment Raul. Planning a return visit.

Room Tip: Liked building 4 on the second floor. No smoke, no balcony but bigger room and view

Front Desk Staff - very courteous, friendly and accommodating. Kudos to David and Danny.
Accommodations - Basic, clean, well-serviced hotel rooms. Lots of hot water. Ocean view. Maid friendly, trustworthy and reliable. Beds are very firm.
Food - Plentiful, lots of veggies and healthy options. Healthy taco bar at lunch. Good grilled mahi-mahi. Serving staff were highly attentive.
Recreation - New bikes available for morning bike tours with Oscar. Daily tennis (free!) clinic with fabulous professional coach, Luis. Thank you so much Luis!
Environment - beautiful gardens and clean surrounds. The ocean in front of the resort is too dangerous for swimming, however, we were aware of that before we went. Enjoyed watching the whales.
(All that needs improving in this resort would be if the shows were spruced up, and the creation of a dancing space and sound system. However, Mariachi Band on Wednesday night was great!)
NOTE: My fellow Canadian tourists need to be considerate and tip more.

Room Tip: Book an ocean view.
