We have been spending a few weeks in Cabo for the last 13 years, and always enjoy trying new restaurants. We were very impressed with our 1st visit to Casiano's a few years back, and have now returned with family and friends, 4 times. Our most recent visit was this past March, 2013.
The service is always impeccable, and we have really enjoyed the "spontaneous cuisine". We are always amazed how easily they can adapt the courses, even when someone has a food allergy. Our son is a European trained chef, and found the meal to be beautifully presented, thought the food was excellent, and wine pairings were very well matched. On our most recent trip, the couple we dined with own a restaurant in our hometown, and he is a chef as well. That particular meal ended with a short visit to the kitchen to meet the chef, and see the workspace.

Casiano's is a "quiet space", we have only been there once, when there were more than a handful of diners present. They do not have a bar scene, and it is located in a residential area which is very nice, but you will not find incredible ocean views here, if that is what you are looking for. We enjoy their outdoor patio, but have also dined indoors, which is more intimate The staff is extremely knowledgeable, and I think part of the dining experience is based on how much involvement you have with them. We always have them explain the ingredients, and how the dish was prepared, especially, if there is a particular item we are not familiar with.

We feel it has been a great addition to the food scene in San Jose del Cabo, and look very much forward to returning next year. If you are a "foodie", it is definitely worth a visit!

(Note: This restaurant does not have menus. Chef prepares what is local and in season, that is why they call it "spontaneous cuisine.")

We were very disappointed with this restaurant. We were looking forward to an imaginative meal of high quality seasonal ingredients. The only seasonal ingredient was soft shell crab which was prepared in a fairly mundane way. The other ingredients, beef, scallops,shrimp,tough lobster tail, sea bass...were not particularly seasonal nor prepared in an interesting or cohesive way. A good tasting menu has some sort of flow. This was five random courses. Sometimes even the things on the same plate made no sense. The first course was a small salad, two scallops prepared in an Asian manner and a small beef enchilada. It was as if all the baskets from Chopped were combined onto one plate.

There were no guests when we arrived. We assumed we were the first. We soon found out that our party of two was the only reservation for the evening. When first seated they asked if we had any allergies. Based on the shellfish heavy meal and overall lack of vegetables (except minced into tiny pieces as a bed under the protein), I am assuming that if we had told them we had a shellfish allergy they would have had to send us home since I imagine that when the chef went to the market for the "special, fresh" ingredients he only bought for two and left no wiggle room.

Dessert was uninspired. Putting a flourless chocolate cake in a corn husk and calling it a tamale does not change the fact that that particular dessert has not been creative since maybe the mid-80's.

On the positive side, the service was exceptional, although we were disappointed that the chef did not come out considering this is supposed to be such a chef-driven restaurant and we were the only people there.

Food = average
Environment = depressing
No view at all. Located in the middle of a residential area.

I can bet you can find a much better place in Cabo. It is a wanna be fusion restaurant with a wanna be chef.

Go anywhere else!

I am writing this review while dinning. I will stop writing because I am falling asleep as there is nobody in the restaurant.

Good night!
