Worth the price and the staff was awesome. You will spend some money but it is money well spent. The food was so fresh and presentation was awesome.

We've been going to Nick-San in San Jose del Cabo every Christmas for years and have always loved their sushi. Sushi from a seaside resort is a natural and Nick-San takes full advantage of Cabo's abundant freshly caught seafood. However, the restaurant's ambience has become about the same as a factory floor - frenetic and noisy. Within ten minutes of our initial order, servers had delivered 4 courses - great if you're in an eating contest. When we asked to slow down the pace of the food delivery the next course arrived inedible - doused in the hottest of hot sauce - apparently they don't like to be asked to slow down.

Niksan used to be our favorite restaurant in Cabo. No longer. We were frequent visitors to the one in Palmilla as we have a home there and it is convenient. The last few times we have gone have been very disappointing. The food has gone from being out of this world to just average. The staff are young and inexperienced. They are very nice but they really don't have a clue as to what they are doing. The last time we ate there they brought out two courses that we didn't order. They said nothing until i pointed out to them that the order was wrong. The response was that this is what the chef decided to prepare with the type of fish we ordered. Not the right answer! There used to be a great waiter named Alex who worked there. You never had to order. He would just bring out what he thought was best according to your appetite. Unfortunately he is now at Flora Farms (where he is doing a great job)
It is a shame that the restaurant has fallen from its top spot. I don't mind paying top prices for excellent food and service. But when you receive neither for what you pay, then that leaves a bad taste in your mouth
I hope the restaurant can return to its former glory, but perhaps the commercial success that the owners now enjoy(they are opening restaurants all over the world) far outweighs the pride they should have in their product offering. If they are not careful they run the risk of becoming the poster children for everything they at one time said they would never become when they started out

Our group of seven included one non-sushi lover, a middle of the roader, a vegitarian and four fanatics. Everyone left very impressed. Freshness seemed to be the mantra. Presentation the keystone. Not one of our 15 or so dishes disappointed, but the soft shell crab received rave reviews from all. Service is very professional and knowledgeable, providing an education for the non-sushi lover. Ambiance is charming and noise level is conversation friendly. Nicksan in Cabo is extremely pricey but can compete with even pricier establishments in central cities.
