Reviewed March 3, 2009

we stayed six days on the spur of the moment, first night we had an okay 1 bedroom, missing patio furniture, some of which was replaced on complaining, nice unit though, new clean and modern, some wear, but still noticibaly new, patio doors would not lock, even after they tried to fix them. Moved to 1 bedroom penthouse suite, " awesome" for a negotiated rate??? more then it was worth, but we very much enjoyed the room and view, the deck was the greatest, hottub was enjoyed by our child. Felt a little ripped off because they wanted cash for the replacement coffee, despite it being free in lower floors????..
The hotel was great, pool was awesome, beach was good 2, restraunts were very good especially breakfast, found everything food, cerveca, reasonablly priced ( thanks to devalued peso ONLY ) pool bar service was slow, ( tip well and it gets really good ) mojito's at pool bar helped make the wife a happy camper as well.
didn't have a problem with chairs, just ask pool boy and he will kick some towels off the reserved chairs. ( pretty vigilant about this and we liked it )
yes we had poolside internet, but internet in 2nd room was terrible??
tv did not have cnbc or enough news but cartoon network was available, really for modern age not enough tv selection. ( yes it was a vacation but an 8 year old goes to bed at 9 )
The main bar kind of sucked and was never busy, except during time share mornings. This is the only place to get draft beer as draft is not available at pool bar.
Also as i know the hotel reads this. GRATIS WATER COOLER paper cup. Is required next to pool bar, for the kind of money u charge for a room etc, and the fact u want to pretend u are a 5 star. this oversight drops u to a 4 star ( mexican ) in my book.
I would stay again and would recommend, location was great, no car required. lots of nearby shops, food, etc.
Avoiding the time share was easy, be polite, tell them u trade weeks from another time share with a friend, and just buy your own breakfast. People were actually buying these things for stupid prices, recession duhhh, meanwhile other developments in cabo are looking empty and some half builts abandoned allready.
enjoyability index is high. so go and enjoy.

Our resevervation requested an upper level room with a view but we received a lower level room with a view of a restaurant. We were paying between $400-$500/night (one bedroom suite) so felt we were entitled to a room change. The front desk insisted no other rooms were available. After much complaining, another room mysteriously became available....still on the same level but at least not as obstructed. (was still partially obstructed.) We complained again and were told nothing else was available so we agreed to take the 2nd room they offered. We asked for a partial room discount or a voucher to have dinner at the restaurant.....We were told absolutely no!! When we got to the room, it was filthy!!! We had prepaid for our stay otherwise we would have gone to another hotel. At 8:00 p.m. that night we insisted a maid come and clean the place. The maid did an awesome job cleaing the mess up...it just wasn't the way you want to start your vacation. The property is very new but already very beat up...many ,many things broken/run down in our room and on the property. Appears to have been very poorly constructed. There are not enough umbrellas at the pool to go around. By 7 or 8 am every morning all of the lounge chairs with umbrellas were already saved. They need to have at least 1 umbrella to every 2 louge chairs...otherwise you fry in the hot sun and cannot stand to be out too long. We encountered a few extremely rude front desk workers who worked the day shift. The night shift was awesome. The conceirge and also the activities desk people were great. The timeshare people were horrible and very very pushy. (located next to the activities desk. They also roam the lobby area and will try to be chummy with you/They are very much in your face and persistent.) For the money this place is just not worth it...Maybe for about 1/3 of the price if would be worth it. Also, their web site makes it sound like they have a pool and beach conceirge but no one ever helped us find chairs or umbrellas...as I stated earlier..guests start reserving chairs/umbrellas very early in the am by putting a towel/book down. They have a small gift/convenience shop in the hotel. If you are using US dollars (not pesos) and do not have the exact change be very very careful. One of the women working there tried to give me my change back (in pesos) at a much poorer exchange rate that what the rate was really at. Use Pesos, not dollars, whenever you can if the dollar is good when you go. With so many choices in Cabo, I would look elsewhere unless you can get a great rate on the room. It's a good location to be able to walk to the marina/downtown. The beach/pool area is very very noisy...if you are looking for peaceful look elsewhere. Lots of noise from the party bar next store (Mango's) and all of the jet ski's.

WOW !!! I can not say enough wonderful things about this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were treated fabulously. I could have done without the attack of the timeshare salespeople that are standing very close to the front desk BUT they were easily turned away.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom and I could live in that room. Great furnishings with three separate decks to take in the views.

The pool was never crowded and a very quiet, relaxing environment. The food and drinks at the pool were decent and not overpriced.

The workout facilities were good but definitely not as good as the facilities as Villa Del Arco but I really enjoyed looking out at the ocean while on the cardio machines.

The spa is OK but a bit overpriced. I am certain they will adjust their pricing because they never seemed to have anyone in there. There were 4 of us and we always got appointments at the last minute.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION !!! What more can I say? You are right behind some of the best spots in Cabo and if you feel like a party atmosphere, it is literally footsteps away. Additionally, the mall and the marina are a few blocks away with some great restaurants, bars and shops.

I have been to Cabo more times than I can count and I never want to stay in another hotel.

The only negatives:

1) Almost impossible to get the water temp in the shower right. It was either really cold or scalding hot. I would be nervous to let my children shower there.

2) We tried to extend our trip and the front desk quoted us a ridiculous price for the two additional nights. After I explained what the other hotels rates were, they would not budge. I refused to pay that much, especially because I had already checked and the occupancy was frighteningly low. I would think that a hotel would rather have some revenue for a room as opposed to leaving them empty. We moved next door to the Melia and continued our trip at more than half the cost.

Outstanding holiday stay. The Dorada was magnificent. Great ambiance, location and service. Fun walk to many restaurants and be prepared for happy hour 2x drinks. Loved the relaxing music at the pool, warm smiles and just perfect stay. Our teenage son loved this hotel as well. We really had a fun family vacation at this gorgeous resort.

We are in our second week and I would say overall it's ok. But i am a hotellier so I see things diffrently. (second week) For instance there was pornography hidden in the room, the pillow sham is torn, our ice maker is broken our trash can is broken, the mak-up bench has stains on it and the toilet was plugged. They unplugged the toilet but nothing else. We had bathrobes the first day but they took those away. Our first week was a two bedroom in a great location of the hotel. Why? I paid an xtra $7,000.00. for a grand total of 43,000.00 Our second week is our bonus week so now I have a view of a wall near the speakers that play all day and into the night plus all the issues mentioned. Well thats all for now because it's time to go swim with the dolphins. I just wish we got the same type of service the second week I feel a little like a second class citizen now. We will see if next year if ther is a change in behavior.

my husband and i stayed 6 nights during january for our 10th anniversary - we are very picky travelers and did our research before settling on casa dorada and we were soooooooo happy with our decision ..... everything about this lovely resort is 5 star - excellent view (request highest floor as possible), excellent service and loved being able to catch water taxi or rent jet ski just steps from resort ..... our package included breakfast buffet each morning and it was sooooo yummy!! $4 taxi ride to marina - loved all the restaurants there, venture on down a bit right from the mall and tons of great mexican restaurants right on the water in the marina - we always felt safe ...... room was amazing, we had a 1 bedroom full-suite, not mini and had tons of room ...... the only thing we did not like about the resort was they are doing a "conservation" program and certain times during the day and night they actually turn the coolers off to the air-conditioning system, so only room temp air blows during this time, which can get kindof warm in the middle of the night or while you are trying to get ready for dinner - we would call down and let the staff know we didn't enjoy this part :) ....... but, that was really our only negative comment - we would return for sure!!! ..... also arranged private driver service through trip advisor recommendations and he was awesome!! ....... any and EVERY request that we asked about during our entire stay was met immediately whether it was poolside services, ammenitiy requests, or restaurant reservations/recommendations.

We just returned after a two week timeshare stay and would say that this is a very nice resort. For the past four years we have stayed next door and couldn't stand the noise anymore so we checked this place out and bought. Good move! We really enjoyed the balcony in the evening and early morning just watching people and seals playing. Kudos to Paco and Brian at the pool. Both are an asset to the resort!
There were a few things that needed to be attended to due to being a new facility, but all in all it was a great stay and I can hardly wait to go back next year.
