“Beautiful Property, but prepare to be "Touristed"”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

This is a beautiful large property within walking distance to the marina, but the service is very disappointing on many levels. We weren't there 5 minutes before we were touristed. One of the first things we were asked as we checked in was if we wanted to pay for an upgrade. I stated that we had already paid for an upgraded room when we booked our ocean view suite. I was then told that "ocean view" does not mean that you can actually SEE the ocean, it means that your room faces the ocean. Mind you, ALL of the rooms at Casa Dorada face the ocean. It's not like any of them are facing "the city" or "the parking lot" for that matter. I could hardly believe my ears. We were given a room on the first floor. The first floor is actually lower than ground level. We couldn't see the ocean or even the pool for that matter. We could see the backs of the lawn chairs at the pool - not what you expect when you pay for anything more than the cheapest room there. I would insist that you request a room on the 3rd flor or higher if you are dumb enough to book at this place. After complaining about our room, we were told that they couldn't get us moved to another room until mid way through our week long visit. We were given completely useless $100 "vouchers" for the diamond emporium and some other jewelry shops as an apology. How generous, right? The happy hour was disappointing: 11-12 am. Friends of ours were staying across the street at Cabo Villas where happy hour is every day from 10 am to 6 pm! We ended up hanging out at Cabo Villas more than we did at Casa Dorada, and the staff was friendlier too! We found the service poolside at Casa Dorada scant and amateur. And if you have any desire to lounge around the pool and relax, bring your earplugs! You can hear the noise blaring from The Office all day and night long.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor, request floor 3 or higher when you make your reservation.

Just returned from eight days at Casa Dorada and had an amazing time. The staff are wonderful, Ilse, Ivan, Jair, Armando, Aleida, Emilio. The staff are attentive and friendly. The ocean was spectacuar and warm. The room was large and comfortable with twice daily maid service. We purchased a food plan and were quite happy with daily breakfast and lunch variety. Although we enjoyed 12 Tribes for dinner, more variety would have been nice. Overall, our stay was amazing and we look forward to returning soon!

If you want a spring break atmosphere, look no further. If you want a romantic and relaxing getaway, you may be disappointed with Casa Dorada. Music is constantly blaring from nearby Mango Deck, as well as the hotel pool. While this can kill the mood when outside, fortunately the sliding doors on our room blocked that noise when closed.

Unfortunately, however, the sliding doors do little to block the noise when Casa Dorada hosts a wedding reception. We were at the opposite side of the hotel from the reception on the sixth floor, but even with the doors closed we could still hear terrible music blaring until almost midnight. This was on the last night of our honeymoon and we had to wake up early to catch our flight, so it really killed the mood.

Even worse, management didn't seem to care at all. Both managers I talked to just kept repeating that they “have a contract” with the wedding to blare music until 11:30pm, so be aware that the hotel does not believe it has a “contract” with its guests to provide any tranquility at night (they said they would “turn it down” at 11, but I couldn’t tell a difference). I'm all for wedding guests having a good time, but there's no reason any party on earth needs to be even louder than Mango Deck!

Casa Dorada is a beautiful hotel, the staff was otherwise friendly, and it’s nice being so close to downtown, but guests looking for a relaxing experience may be disappointed.

This is definitely a 5 star resort. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are large and all have an ocean view. The beach is well kept up and is easily accessible. The restaurants have an excellent menu and are reasonably priced for this type of resort.
The resort sits outside of Cabo and is quiet. There are plenty of amenities for all to enjoy

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view of the ocean

Stayed here for 4 nights during Oct 2013.

1. Nice location - 15-20 minutes from hotel to marina / downtown

2. taxi - $7-8 dollars from hotel to downtown area

3. pools - they are okay, little bit crowded during our stay

4. beach - nice location, good views, beach chairs limited; have to go early in the morning to get a good seat

5. food - 12 tribes - I will give this restaurant alone 1 -2 stars - I can't believe people can claim this restaurant as fine dinning. Service is okay, non of the food can meet any par. The Office next door is better than this restaurant. We ordered the sea bass - which was overcooked; steak tasted like rubber; lobster bisque is bland; clams have sand; dessert taste like overnight sponge cake; I do not recommend to eat here at all, don't waste your time and money.

6. cab to airport - if you buy the ticket from the hotel, it cost $75 dollars and they will give you a voucher, the taxi driver will accepted it. But I was told we should just call a taxi from the hotel, and it should cost about $65, the important thing is that the cab driver's commission will not get robbed by the hotel (per the cab driver)

7. Pool service - it's okay but the only issue is - they have different servers at the pool, and they made you sign different taps even when you leave it open. I ended up signing three different taps for 4 drinks... i am not sure if because they don't split their tips. It's annoying when you try to enjoy your day and they kept coming back giving you a tap for one drink

Not sure if I will come back to this hotel, maybe try a different one next time...

This is a bucket list trip for sure. Land's End is the stuff that dreams are made of and Casa Dorada is the perfect place to turn that dream into reality. The view from Medano Beach is simply breath taking. The proximity to downtown makes it ideal in place where cab fare can run fifty dollars from other hotels. The service is second to none. We were treated like royalty, our every whim catered too. They even brought local artists up to our suite to personally give our children a painting and sculpting class. I understand they have now turned this into a regular occurrence when guests bring children. There is truly something for everyone to do here. I am literally counting the days until we return in April and have already paid for our January 2015 trip.

The minute you walk up to this hotel you say wow, it has a beautiful view from the lobby. As soon as you are finished checking in you are accosted with sales people trying to get you to listen to their time share sales pitch. When you only have 4 days , I did not want to spend any time at all on these presentations.
Our room was beautiful, on the 4th floor and on the right side of hotel which I would now recommend. So facing the ocean, request the right side of hotel. We were so nervous about being literally right over the "mango" bar and the "office" bar, that we requested to change our room to the other side of hotel. Should have stayed in original room, our new room's view is of palm trees that block the ocean. We tried to switch back but they had already checked someone else in and did not have availability on that side anymore.
If you want peace and quiet, stay at the pool, the beach is overwhelming being right next door to the busiest loudest bars pushing shots etc and the amount of vendors selling the same things is constant, they are nice and keep going when you say no thank you but you will say it 100 times in one afternoon. We love the beach so your best bet is taking the water taxi to lovers beach where you can rent an umbrella , take your own snacks and drinks and there, you will find absolute joy! If you stay on beach at hotel, The beds on the beach are nice, get the ones farthest away from the mango bar or lounge chairs on 2nd row to avoid peddlers.
Food at hotel is just ok , drinks are well priced or the same you find all along the beach.
Overall I would recommend this hotel, just know it is not the quietest if that is what you are looking for.

Room Tip: Ask for room on 4th floor or higher on right side when facing ocean
