We stayed at the Hacienda del Mar from March 1-6 in a 1 BR Master Suite. We traded in thru SFX about a year in advance. We enjoyed our stay here immensely. If nightlife is you thing, this would not be for you. Generally a older crowd at the Vacation Club and younger at the hotel where conference guests stay.
Check-in was a breeze, no waiting at the front desk; the room wasn’t ready until 4:00pm which was ok since we arrived at 9:30am in our bathing suits from PB Sunset. Lobby area is small but very nice for the Vacation Club which is separate from the Hotel portion next door which is much fancier. They have concrete benches with cushions shaded by palm trees outside the lobby to sit on while waiting for taxis or shuttles.
We stayed in room 835 of Bldg 8 which I understand is for guest (RCI/SFX). They also have Bldg 9 & 10 which is reserved for trade-in guests also. Our room was very well appointed, 2 levels, Kitchen, Living Room Bath, Balcony on 1st floor, & Bedroom, Bath& balcony on 2nd floor. Nice view of the Sea with many palms framing the balcony. Full maid service daily. Close to pool & beach area with no real incline or roads to cross. The grounds here a beautiful, lush, unique & well maintained each day. The buildings have that Spanish architecture of a small Mexican village and very quiet. A variety of units as well as a new location they just started near Chileno Bay. They also have a golf course right next door.
We ate at Pitahayas & De Cortez Restaurant as well as the pool bars during our stay. Both were very good, Pitahayas was more expensive & a more limited menu but very good. De Cortez was a little more casual & fairly reasonable for this style of resort. We ate at the pool bars almost every day…fish tacos, taco salad etc. Off the grounds go to De Mona Lisa Restaurant towards San Lucas, beautiful view high on the rock cliffs overlooking local surfers & the El Arco formation in San Lucas.
Beach is very long (1/2 mile) and fairly deep to move chairs around easily. They have plenty of chairs at the beach & the beach staff will put an umbrella up for a small tip where ever you want it. They have bar service on the beach but 1 person was a little stretched to cover the entire beach area on a timely basis, just plan your drinks in advance. Swimming is for good to advanced because waves are large at times, coral/rock in the water, & some undertow. Water temp in March was 73 degrees; air 83 degrees with 10-20 mph breeze. We saw many whales ( Grays & Humpback) each day just off shore.
They have 3 pool areas along the Sea comprised of 6 small pools with some infinity style overlooking the Sea. Pool service was average depending who was working your pool that day, they rotate I think. Many happy hours (2 for 1) at the pools, it was 2-4pm near Pitahayas, and noon – 2pm at the other. Water temp of pool was very warm (heated) & water was clean & clear. The pool lounge chairs (have cushions) go quick overlooking the beach, need to get there early in the morning. They had many activities like Bingo, Water Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Cooking Lessons, Speaking Spanish & etc.
Location of the resort is pretty secluded between Cabo San Lucas & San Jose. The taxis is pretty expensive ($22/ea way) to take on a daily basis, best bet is the shuttle (15 mins) which runs hourly to San Lucas for $10/pp & drops you at the Marina Mall. We did rent a car for a day from Hacienda del Mar at $55/day for a small Chevy w/air. We drove to San Jose which is this little old town just north about 20 mins. with a cute historic district of shops.(very artsy).
The timeshare presentation was fairly painless, a Canadian did the presentation for 2 ½ hrs= 90 Mex minutes for $200 resort credit. We did not buy, although it is a very nice resort, but very spendy.
Amenities are a coin operated laundry, Mini Mart, Budget Rental Car, Gift Shops, Shuttle to San Lucas, Sushi Bar, Open Air restaurants, Theme Night Buffet & Golf.More
