“Perfect Vacation”
Reviewed January 29, 2010

After many trips at other Riu resorts in Mexico, my husband and I decided to book the Riu Palalce Cabo after hearing so many guests at other Riu's say "this one is nice but our favourite is the Riu Palace Cabo." Wow, were they right.

We stayed there Jan 18-25 2010 and we cannot think of one negative thing to say about our trip.
Our Air Transat flights from Calgary were early both ways, with friendly cabin crew and champagne with breakfast.
Check-in at the resort was flawless and took less than 5 minutes from the time we stepped off the bus.

We had booked a jacuzzi suite (worth the extra money if you can swing it) so our room had a sweeping ocean view, large jacuzzi tub, sitting area and king bed. Having stayed at Riu hotels many times before, we knew the mattresses were on the harder side... just place the provided wool blanket under the sheet. Housekeeping did this for us.

The food at the Riu buffets is always plentiful and delicious... this resort even more so.
We ate at the resort's mexican restaurant on the beach, Mexicana, two nights in a row; food was absolutely authentic and delicious and the staff were great.

Mid-January is always quiet so we never had to rush for pool chairs. We are early risers anyway but many, many "good" pool chairs were still available before noon... unlike other resorts where you need to set your alarm for 5:30 am to claim your space. This may be different during Xmas/March Break but it was a nice surprise for us.

The grounds are immaculate, always being scrubbed and polished.
The housekeeping staff was very attentive - our rooms were made by 9:30 most mornings while we had breakfast and our fridge was always fully stocked with beer and bottled water.

Service at the pool and bars at night was top notch - bartenders and servers would always make sure our glasses were full. Most of them are hilarious too... get talking with them, they have great stories. During the day at the pool not once did I have to go to the bar for a drink, they were always walking around taking orders.

The Animacion staff was unbelievable - Robbie is a scream. The shows at night are a blast. There is always something to do with them at the resort - stretching/yoga, beach volleyball, pool volleyball, water aerobics, pool bingo, "crazy games", spanish lessons, rifle shooting... or you can sit and do nothing : )

Not once in our many stays at Riu's in Mexico have we had a problem with "theft"... we don't even think about it. We don't bring valuables when we travel but the things that did need to be kept safe (passports, airline tickets) we kept in our room safe. Make sure your room door closes behind when you leave and keep your safe key with you at all times.

Getting into Cabo was a breeze, 5 minute cab ride there, 3 minute cab ride back. Walking around the marina is beautiful at sunset. Shopping is great if you're interested, from street vendors to Cartier. We ate dinner at Ruth's Chris and had a great night.

We did not want to leave; it was literally the perfect vacation. Flawless. People that have lists of complaints need to chill out and enjoy their vacations a bit more. Understand that it is Mexico - different language, culture, food, way of life... enjoy it. Can't wait for January 2011, we will definitely be heading back to the Riu Palace Cabo.

My second visit to the Riu Palace was just as wonderful as my first trip five years ago. My boyfriend and I were joined by two friends, and we all had a fantastic experience. The entertainment (Animation) staff were amazing, so friendly and always getting everyone involved. Robbie was the best, just a ray of sunshine every day, getting everyone to play volley ball and take part in the daily contests.
The food was amazing (except for the Japanese restaurant). Service was incredible, you could not ask for a better staff team.

This place is absolute perfection....room was beautiful and immaculate. Grounds were spectacular. Many pools, not too crowded, fun but not-too-rowdy-crowd. Steady supply of great food and drinks. Massage on the waterfront was amazing. Every single staff member we encountered was friendly, helpful and seemed genuinely committed to excellent customer service. Loved the view from our balcony: mountains, sea, cruise ships. Enjoyed the marina area, lots of shops (all different price ranges) and restaurants.

My husband and I along with 6 other couples travled here on a summer getaway. We had an awesome time that, we will never forget it. We felt like royalty, greated with tropical drinks upon our arrival, and the lobby took our breath away with its immpecable beauty. We ask for an ocean front view but was disappointed by the palm trees that blocked our view, no problem for the staff at Riu we had another room in 30 seconds flat. The food was great. The weather warm but tropical. Drinks were great. We truly had the royal treatment. We ventured out for ATV and Horseback riding. How romantic to see the beach meet the desert while riding horseback. Relaxing on the beach without a care in the world was one of the moments that just take your breath away. The night life was ok but we will save the partying for Mardi Gras!!! We loved Cabo and this resort so much that on our last day, my husband would not pack to go home, he told me he was staying!!!! LOL We truly recommend this resort to anyone just wanting to get away.

In planning to go to Cabo, our main concern was the inability to swim in the ocean in most places, but that applies to every resort, so I mention it just in case a potential traveler reading this is unaware. You get past this problem by taking a water taxi to Lovers' Beach, where you can swim to your heart's content.

Having said that, the Riu Palace was fantastic. The staff was ridiculously courteous. You couldn't go anywhere without a cheerful "Ola!" Our room was spotless. The food was great for an all-inclusive, especially breakfast, and it was plentiful. You never had to wait for the buffet to open. The pool was beautiful. You can walk into town on the beach (it takes roughly 30 minutes). It was the most relaxing and fun vacation I've had in a very long time.

If there is anything they need to change it's the availability of WiFi coverage. Everyone with a smartphone or laptop converged on the lobby to suck up the only good signal.

The property is beautiful, and the staff were absolutely fantastic .... beyond helpful and took an interest in you as a person and not just another tourist. The beach for swimming was red flagged everyday but if you were careful, you could swim without any issue. For tanning the beach was great. For walking, you can walk for at least 2 km in either direction from the resort and because the Riu is the last resort resort on the beach, if you walked south away from Cabo Bay, you did not run into a single beach vendor, so it is just you and the waves !! The resort itself was immaculate everywhere and there was always someone around cleaning something - non-stop !!! Food was fantastic too and plentiful. We d go back in a heart beat !! Entertainment was typical resort entertainment, okay but if you want to find The Party, you need to go off resort, same as any resort. We were more than happy to sit under the palm trees and listen to the waves with a margarita in hand

The strong points
The strong points: The Staff !!!! Second to none, from maid to waiter to manager, just awesome!! The reality is the whole place is a strong point !

The weak points
The weak points: A slight smell of sulfur outside out room occasionally at night - keep your balcony door closed and it was fine though. Main corridor was noisy a couple of nights but that was due to inconsiderate tourists.
