“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2009

Overall this place is a good hotel. I stayed at the RIU in aruba and this one is exactly the same including the resturants, which was a little disappointing but still very good. The pools are huge, one note that one pool is heated and the other is not. I talked with a couple of people that did not know the other pool was heated b/c their room was right near the "cold" pool.

The rooms were clean and the staff was great. They have some pretty good entertainment.

We walked to town a couple of times (during the day), in the evenings take a cab.

If you are looking for things to do outside of the resort check out http://www.cabo-outfitters.com/ ... we went out with casey (owner) and had a great time. The Jeep tour through the mountain was amazing. We also did the kayak trip which was so good we went for the jeep tour later in the week.

This was are third trip to Cabos and the first time at the Riu Palace. I will say that we were completely satisfied with the hotel in (almost!) every aspect.
Let's start with the STAFF - EVERYONE was so friendly, from the front desk staff, to the bartenders (Miguel at the swim up), Omar at the breakfast Buffet, to the housekeepers service folks. No complaints at all. We were welcomed with a margarita at check in and everything was perfect.
ROOMS - AMAZING. Period. We only had the junior oceanview suite, but the location was simply AWESOME. We were on the 4th floor and had a beautiful balconied room overlooking Lands End and El Arco. Very spacious. VERY clean. (Bed was hard, but that seems to be a typical Mexican thing. But the linens were high quality count and the pillows were wonderful. Made up for a "firm" mattress.)
SERVICE - Terrific. Never had to wait for anything. Mini bar was continually stocked. As with typical Mexican hospitatlity - well, let's just say that they are as warm as their climate.
FOOD - The food here was good. Not FABULOUS, but certainly not like many of the reviews. The Japanese restaurant was yummy, the Krystal fusion as well (although small portions), the breakfast buffet was pretty good, with a nice variety of foods, although we're not really buffet kinds of people anyway. The Steak house was decent as well. We've been to other all-inclusives where the food was definitely better, but this one was pretty good. The lunch buffet was great - with a huge variety of things to from which to choose. It was great being able to grab a slice of pizza and get back to the pool without having to waste precious sun time!!! Word to the wise - DON'T ORDER THE ROOM SERVICE. Just not worth it and pretty yucky overall.
POOLS - GREAT! CLEAN!!! FUN!!!! Although we did opt for the quieter one closer to Lands End. The bartenders were so nice and so much fun!!
WEIGHT ROOM - How would I know? Didn't work out once, vacation and all, unless you consider margarita drinking a veritable exercise!!
ENTERTAINMENT - In a word, terrific. We've been to loads of resorts where the entertainment is cheesy at best (eg. the flamenco dancer by night was the lawn waterer by day), the RIU palace had top notch performances - a real professional troupe. One night there was Greece, another Mama Mia. And the place was packed every night. We never made it to the night club, but overheard that it was pretty fun.

What the Riu Palace lacked in the best food in town, it made up for it in everything else. It was a great hotel and we had a blast.

MISCELLANEOUS - Do get out to Lovers Beach. The glass bottom boats with the high waves are sometimes scary, but you've got to go. It's too beautiful to pass up and you can spend as long or as short a time as you want.
Go swimming with the dolphins!!! We have always wanted to, but never had before. Made up our minds in advance that we were doing it this time and worth every penny. (It did cost $165/pp, but it last almost an hour and was so amazingly cool.
Recommend the sunset cruise, but unless you're into that kind of thing, don't get sucked into the sunset cruise with show. We opted for the quiet sailboat cruise (still with open bar) and it was so much more pleasant. There were about 20 on the cruise, but no one was cramped and it was just so peaceful and beautiful. We've done it all three times and always save it for the last night, as a perfect ending to our vacation.
Finally - TIPPING - Although the Riu Palace is all inclusive, we have learned a long time ago that it pays to tip a little bit along the way. Go with lots of $1s and drop them occasionally. We also left the housekeeping staff $5 on the first day, and let me say again, our mini bar and fridge was never empty! We left the swim up bar guys $10 on the last day. To us, it just seemed a small way to say "gracias" for all the kindness showed us.

Overall - a fabulous trip at a fabulous hotel!!

This place went above and beyond. My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon and I felt compelled to share our experience with you. If you love being waited on, relaxing and 5 star service, this is the place for you! Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a drink and someone to take our luggage to our room. This hotel truly lives up to it's five star status. When we got to our room, we instantly noticed the amazing view from the balcony and huge pool. Our bartender made a special trip to fully stock our mini bar upon arrival. After we tipped him, he returned a few minutes later to deliver us nice cold drinks as well. A little tip sure goes a long way with these guys, but even without it, they're great. We loved that there were two pools, identical in appearance. One was called "the activity pool" where people mingle and party and the other is "the relaxing pool" where you can find a quiet place to sunbathe. Each pool has a swim up bar which has excellent service. If you order something, it's there in less than a minute. If you finish something and set it down, it's gone just as quick. The service at the buffet is amazing. We just had to tip our waiter. I was headed back to the table after getting my food and my server ran over, took my plate and carried it to the table for me. He was such a kind man. The hotel has a full service spa and the massage therapists really know what they're doing! The best massage I've ever had. It's not hard to find a private place to spend time with your spouse. Simply a breathtaking experience. Our only complaint was the room service... there were only about 5 things to choose from. We can't wait to return!

We stayed at the Riu Palace from June 3rd-June 8th. Received upgraded room with ocean view. Room was semi-tolerable at best. Could hear all of the "shows" from our room. Thankfully in a location like that, the room is just for regrouping and rest. The hotel grounds are fantastic, must have spent all the allowance on that and forgot about food and room quality.

We had just come from a Ritz Carlton in California so perhaps my view is jaded.

Hope you can get a good deal if traveling here, will help to enjoy it.

We recently went to cabo for a wedding and chose to stay at the riu palace (not to be confused with the riu santa fe right next door) because it was all-inclusive and on the beach. We booked with cabo.com (do not recommend) and flew American Airlines (also would not recommend- they lost our luggage and overweighed it). When we arrived our reservation had been cancelled because our first flight had been cancelled due to weather and therefore did not arrive on time. When we finally got our room we found hair on the toilet and instead of a queen bed as advertised, it was a queen headboard with two twin beds pushed together. Not too comfortable sleeping in the crack! The free room service was such poor quality. I know it's free, but not really when you think of what you pay for the trip. The supposedly restocked daily fridge got restocked twice out of 6 days. The beach was pretty but if you tried to get too close you got attacked by peddlers. The food was terrible. The fruit was the best part. We even tried one of the restaurants (japanese because all the others were booked) and it sucked. There was no meat in the sushi rolls and the rest was buffet and was terrible. Our friends stayed at the riu santa fe next door but couldn't even enter our hotel. It even cost us $5 to call them. We could use their ammenities but they couldn't use ours. The pool was nice!

The service was great.
The grounds are beautiful.
The drinks were great.
The rooms were really nice. (ask for 3rd or 4th floor for best view)

Wishing I was still there!

The Riu was fantastic! We loved the hotel/ food/ relaxing and booze!

Us: From San Diego, CA. Family: (2) 45-50 adults, (5) 28-35 year olds, (1()15 year old and (1) three year old

Hotel: We found the Hotel clean, spacious, beautiful views/ location, a dream come true!

Rooms: Clean, large (had the Ocean View Room- 1st level), fully stocked with soda, beer, water and liquor. Only thing to be desired was the location of the TV (small detail)

Pools: Main pools are HUGE, great kiddie pools, swim up bars, etc. Water was refreshing and calming. Note: Stay away from the infinity edge when consuming large amounts of alcohol- we saw a man fall about 15 feet off the edge and land in the recycling pool below after a long day of partying- OUCH!!!

Alcohol: Plenty... ask for premium liquor. Pool bars are the worst bars, main bar near the lobby was the best.

Canadians: Lots of them... I don't mind them, I was just surprised how many there were.

Water Taxis: Long walk from Riu, when we were there the waves were huge in front of the hotel so it was about a 30-35 minute walk down the beach. The sand is very grainy and you sink about 1/2-1 foot when you walk. When you get to the taxi you have to jump on while they manuver the boat through the waves with no dock (took 5-8 minutes to board), this was also not easy with a 3 year old. Once we got on the boat, it was BEAUTIFUL! We got off in the downtown area for shopping and took a vehicle taxi back to Riu. I would suggest taxi a vehicle taxi to town, then board the water taxi and have them drop you back off at the town dock.

Food: Tasty, and plentiful

Entertainment: Loved it! The 3 year old amd the 15 year old were most entertained! We loved it to!

Spa/ Gym: Amazing massages! One of the best I have ever had.... and I have had 30+ massages! The gym was great- treadmills had the most amazing view.

Theft: I have to admit, I was worried, but we experienced no theft- the safes are lock and key (no you can't bring your own lock and key) they are special locks. The hotel stated there is no master key, I am paranoid so I brought a wrist key ring to keep my safe key on me at all time. Trust me, you are safe with the Riu!

Overall: Great trip! I will go back and if you are reading this review: please GO!!! You won't regret it!
