“Management handling of missing items”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2013

i was there between 15-22 Nov. 2013 and the woman i was with ended up losing her necklace and rings in the SPA. basically either they fell there or we conclude now someone took them.
We are not happy the SPA being a sperate company didnt phone the police of resort security and let them investigate. I feel the whole thing was sluffed off. It wasnt like losing it on the resort. The spa is a separate building and very few staff or guest in there. so im writng the head of RIU and asking why security and management didnt handle this in a better way. the fact the SPA is a seperate company does not give the resort chain a free pass for not providing proper safety for its guest. Warning to all guest that the SPA is separete from the hotel and losing anything there to be acted upon is a waste of time considering she got back her ear rigns but not her necklace proves that the necklass is still there or was stolen and mgmt. lacked the capacity to properly handle security of gurest.

Went down the first week of December 2013 with several friends for a wedding. Had a great time. Drinks were fantasic, rooms were very nice and staff was excellent. Could not have asked for a better stay for my first time in Cabo.
Very very clean resort. Constant cleaning and servicing happening all day. Never had to lift a finger to do anything if I didn't want to.
Several complaints here talk about Wi-fi costing money, drinks not being very good and things like that. I have been to dozens of All Inclusives and this is the first one were everything I drank was excellent and of course made any way I wanted. Wi-Fi completely acceptable, it's Mexico afterall.
Oceanview room was very nice and very comfortable
Will happily return.

We just returned from a 2 week stay at the Riu Palace. This was our 2nd time at the Palace ( last time about 5 yrs ago) and 3rd time in Cabo San Lucas. The Pacific coast of Mexico is usually a good choice for travel in November/December ( less clouds/rain). The Palace is showing signs of aging, but the hard work of staff to keep the hotel clean and well maintained is evidenced daily.

The location: close enough to downtown cabo for shopping and nightlife, but far enough away if you prefer a quieter on resort stay. The undertow as noted is strong, that said, we swam regularly ( close to shore). The main lobby bar with its commanding view of Lands End is one of the best views of any resort. Hotels in the corridor are isolated and the ones directly on the pacific have rough seas.

The resort: Its a massive complex that provides alot of public space, that never makes the resort feel very crowded. Impressive lobby, and main bar. The rooms are suites with balconies. The mattresses are firm - not for everyone. Dark and quiet rooms at night - we always slept well. As noted, the ocean view is partially obstructed by palms on the 3rd floor.. not that big of a deal for the amount of time we spent on the balcony. Water pressure is good, and plenty of hot water. The rooms and the whole hotel is clean. The amount of staff cleaning every surface from the hallways, railings and landscaping is impressive. Two large pools never feel crowded and plenty of lounge chairs.

Food/Drinks: This hotel has one of the most impressive buffets of any resort: big selection, good quality and special selections. The specialty restaurants are decent, and ok for a change but not 5 star. Its tough not to get bored with food after 2 weeks - and this resort has the right mix to keep it interesting. The staff are always friendly and attentive. Drinks tend to be weaker, but likely thats good for all day service. You can make special requests for specific brands and drink strength.

Other: we rented a car for a couple of days and drove to Todos Santos, San Jose and a few beaches. The roads and highways are well maintained - and simple ( helps with one main highway). We weren't out at night, nor in " rough spots" but for all thats written about crime in Mexico, we never felt unsafe and found locals to be friendly and helpful.

Given the price of the Riu Palace compared to other 5 star resorts, we'd definitely recommend this resort. Great resort.

Room Tip: Ask for 4th floor, ocean view and away from disco

I just came back from Riu Palace in Cabo. This was a fantastic vacation. The resort was gorgeous, and had beautiful views. The pools were wonderful, they had a swim up bar, hot tubs, and loungers in the water. You cannot swim in the ocean outside the hotel due to the undertow, so if you're looking to swim in the ocean, you'll need to either take a cab or walk, which is about an hour walk. The restaurants were amazing, as well as the buffet. The food overall was absolutely fantastic. If you cannot find something you like to eat there, I'd be surprised. The hotel is about 45 minutes from the airport, so be sure to book a shuttle too and from the airport. It's very close to downtown Cabo, so if you are looking for nightlife outside the hotel, it's about a 12 dollar cab ride. The staff was very friendly! I will say service improves with tips, so be sure to bring lots of ones with you, although it technically is included! My only complaint was that the bed was not comfortable, and older spring mattress. I would definitely come back here in a heartbeat!

Five star resort. Customer service was outstanding. Everyone greeted you with a smile. Food in buffets and restaurants were excellent, grounds were spotless, rooms are spacious. No complaints whatsoever.

This is a believable review by 4 travelers from St. Louis MO. We stayed at the Riu Palace Cabo Nov 8 thru 15, 2013. The quality of the food and drink at this resort is the best we have ever encountered at an all inclusive. Servce and attention to detail was fantastic. Enjoy lobster, great filet mignon, ahi tuna, shrimp, etc. My wife even enjoyed the buffet, although she is not a buffet person. Specialty restaurants were excellent. All drinks were excellent! Hotel rooms are a slight cut above average for most resorts. 2 couples in two rooms. One couple had towel animals daily one didn't. But it isn't important to us. We were met with a cold beverage on arrival but it isn't important to us. What was important to us was food, drink and cleanliness. All three were exceeded at this resort. 1 slightly negative comment is that the pool temperature was a little too cool, although we did get in the water.

My wife and I stayed here two years ago and were EXTREMELY impressed! So much so that. after staying at 4 other Cabo resorts over the past few years, we made the decision that this was by far the best place to stay in Cabo and decided to go back again this year. We're not sure if the menu, food, pool and room maintenance have just been ignored since then, or if our standards have improved so much that we simply didn't notice it before, but they are in need of improvements and updating.

In the pool quite a few tiles were falling off and the side of the swim-up bar was being held on by duct tape!? In our bathroom, the shower tile was in about the same state of disrepair but had the added benefit of an abundance of mold in the grout lines. And the tub is angled severely (almost in a straight 'V') making showers a bit precarious--especially after a few (extremely watered-down) cocktails. In fact, we were informed by a guest who spoke with a bartender that let him know they receive only 12 liter bottles of each off-brand liquor (vodka, rum, gin, etc) per day. When the bottles go below the half-empty point, they supplement with water and their own blend of tequila. By the end of the day, most of the bottled alcohol tastes like watered down tequila--which is exactly what it is. Stick with beer or champagne, or drink your alcohol early.

As for the restaurants, the lobster at the "steakhouse" was laughable. More like a tiny prawn -- and super chewy. At their "nicest" restaurant, called Krystal, we noticed that 95% of the patrons returned their appetizers as they were completely inedible and looked disgusting. The other 3 places, called "Mexican", "Japanese" and "Steakhouse" were just average. It is also a pain in the butt to have to make your dinner reservations the day of with only 3 time options (6:30; 8:15 and 9:45) with most being "sold out" despite the fact that when we looked in--and when we were eating--the restaurants were only about 20% occupied. The sushi at Japanese was similar to what you would buy at your local grocery store. Stick with Mexican or the buffet. Breakfast was good with a million choices and ready-made omelets.

The resort itself is at the very far end of the strand from downtown and the water taxis will not come out due to the wicked surf and rip current. We were told from the Expedia rep that a lady recently broke her leg jumping off of one of the water taxis and her husband jumped in to save her while the taxi driver sped off back to town. We also know that drowning is a fairly regular occurrence in Cabo due to the underwater topography, so BE CAREFUL when swimming--or just don't. The only real place I would recommend going into the ocean at all is on Lover's Beach. You can walk down a few resorts to the Del Arco or Palomar and catch a water taxi down there, but from Riu it will take you close to 45 minutes to walk the beach on very loose sand, which is a good, lumbering workout. To get to the downtown area for excursions or nightlife, your only real option is a $12 cab that will take maybe 10 minutes.

Room Tip: Garden view junior suite for two runs about $288/ night/ person which is fine. No real view, but we...
