Our first trip to Cabo included a four night stay at the Riu Palace which was highly recommended to us by our travel agent. Our party of six was not disappointed with the property. All aspects of our experience at the Riu were excellent from the time we arrived until we departed. The staff members were attentive, friendly and accomodating. The facility was spotless and very easy to navigate. Our rooms (ocein view, Jr. suites) we nicely appointed and very clean. The food was very good and the dinner and luncheon buffets included an adequate variey of choices. The two reservation restaurants we visited were the Mexican and Steak House. Both were nice especially the Mexican as it was right on the beach. The reservation process is a bit challaging as you need to make them two days in advance except the Fusion restaurant which must be made on the day you want to visit. The all inclusive aspect of the facility was truly that including a well stocked (daily) frige and liquor dispensers in the room. We only had one disappointing experience with room service one morning when our order (hung on the door the night before) did not arrive at the requested time. We had arranged an excursion that morning and could not wait for it to arrive. We should had just gone to the buffet which would have been faster and better! One suggestion I would make is to have a better variey of wines. There were only three choices; two white and one red which were not good. Other adult beverages were fine and the variety was excellent. There were certainly many bars to visit and the service was excellent especially while at the pools were the staff was attentive and accomodating. While we were there a tropical storm off the coast caused large waves which made the view even more spectacular. You can't swim at the beach as the drop off and under tow are too severe but there are other beaches nearby you can use. We were also impressed with the airport in Cabo as it was modern, clean and easy to navigate. Our overall first experience in Cabo and at a Riu resort was excellent.

Room Tip: We were at the end of the property on the second floor. An easy walk to all activities.

We had a girl's trip from June 18 - 23, 2013 in Cabo. We booked this trip last minute, and Riu Palace had the location and was really inexpensive so we booked there. Well, you get what you pay for. Though we had an amazing time, this had nothing to do with the hotel. In fact, if the hotel had been better, it would've been the perfect vacation. The room was livable, but everything in the room was damp all the time. And it smelled of mildew and mold. We had friends in other rooms that didn't have the smell/ damp air. It was sticky & gross in there, but honestly, we spent very little time in the room. The gym was unbelievably substandard (to the point of dangerous). Even the treadmills were old, and in dire need of replacing. One morning while attempting to use a weight machine for bicep curls, the handle grip flew off. We decided to just get our cardio done and by the end of the trip had given up any hope of getting a workout in the gym. Another major problem for us was the disgusting, scary food. Even their "nice" restaurant was sub-par in our opinion. We happened to have friends staying at the same hotel & one of our friends got very sick after eating at one of the restaurants on the first night. He was so sick that we had to call a doctor to come to his room. $200 USD, a shot & prescriptions later, he felt slightly human again, but I didn't see him eat again for the next 3 days. Needless to say, we were very careful about what we ate at the hotel. At breakfast we stuck to the omelette station and lunch was pretty non existent. Dinner, we forced ourselves to eat. But here's the really bad part... the drinks were AWFUL! That's basically why we booked all inclusive. All the frozen drinks had a weird taste. The bartenders weren't familiar with how to make a lot of frozen drinks. And good luck getting a beer that isn't funky draft beer. You want beer in a bottle or can? Forget it. Also, the pool was slimy on the bottom and sides and there was a gross looking film floating across the top. By day two I wanted to go downtown & sit on the beach there. Wanted no more to do with the Riu Palace pool. I've been to plenty of all inclusive hotels, but this was the worst. It wasn't even worth it for the drinks. The only good thing is that it was pretty close to town. We ended up buying beer and drinks elsewhere to bring back to the hotel and we also ate out.
It just seemed like a trashy crowd and definitely very low budget. A couple from our flight out there had been there before & booked it again because they loved it so much the first time. They said they had a great time and thought the food was good. I guess we all have different standards. I won't stay there again, but I guess if you want something cheap & close to town, it might work. But be prepared to go out to eat & buy your own alcohol elsewhere.

Every moment of my stay at this hotel was fantastic. I have stayed at a Riu once before, it was nice, but this one was spectacular. The food selection was great. Lots of variety. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. The entertainment was the most professional I have seen at a resort. The pools were beautiful as well as the views. We also visited the Sante Fe which was lots of fun. Definitely the place to be if you want to party. My favourite restaurant was the Krystal. My tenderloin was cooked to perfection. Better than the Keg!! The service was great. The second visit I enjoyed the sea bass and a great bottle of 2002 Rioja. Don't believe the negative reviews. These people must just need something to complain about. Planning a trip to revisit riu in Bahamas later this summer. But plan on making the Palace in Cabo an annual thing

We went to check in and they said that they did not have our rooms (suites w/ocean-view) and had changed our reservations to the Santa Fe. We said no we had made the reservations for the palace and we had our confirmation with us. They said there was nothing they could do for us they were booked up? They said that we would have the best rooms at the Santa Fe, but they were not! They were regular rooms and faced a court yard. No one would help us and no one cared. Horrible way to start a vacation!! DO NOT STAY THERE!

Just came back on June 21st. We spent 2 weeks at the Riu.
The hotel is beautiful and clean and so are the grounds. We did stay the the Riu Santa Fe previously and we prefer the Palace.
The staff were exceptional. They would run to get what you want. They were always friendly and always with a smile. They did all speak English.
The beach is beautiful and you were able to swim but had to be careful.
The entertainment was ok. The usual Grease, Micheal Jackson all lipsinging. They did have two different bands before and after the show but they were not good. They always sang the same songs over and over...... not very entertaining.....
We also found the gym very small, no free weights and the machines old and in bad shape. Very surprising for a 5 star hotel.
We did do some excursions and one of them was the ATVs. We did it with Catcus Company and it was excellent.... they take you about 30 minutes out of Cabo and the staff Alberto, George and their group took us on a great ride along the beach and up the mountains.... it was great fun...
The steak resturant was the best. The Japanese was good but the service was very very slow.
The Italian is only open at Lunch but the food and service was great. The Infusion did not like.
Overall we really enjoyed the hotel and we would return again which we never do the same hotel twice.
So book it and see for yourself.

My daughter and her boyfriend arrived 2 days ago . Last night went to dinner for 2 hours and came back to their room door wide open and all the lights they had left on were off. Master key was used and safe was also opened...Iphone and all cash were STOLEN. Hotel said it would take 24 hours to see records of who opened door (obviously inside job)..They demanded to be moved to another room (was not offered) and now the rest of their trip has been marred ..Just searched this on internet and there is quite a few postings on various sites describing the exact same thing happening to others there...DO NOT BRING ANYTHING OF VALUE AND DO NOT TRUST THE HOTEL IN ROOM SAFES...WOULD NEVER GO BACK.

We stayed in June 2013 for 2 nights. Front desk staff were not very efficient or friendly. The food is average. We ate at the Japanese restaurant 1st night and the food had very little flavour and it may have been the worst wine I've ever had. Lunch at an Italian place, everything tasted the same. 2nd night, dinner at the Mexican place was much better. We had a junior suite which seemed very small for a suite. The sheets on the bed seemed very old and were rough. The worst thing about this hotel was the sound in the hallways. Anytime anyone was in the hallway, no matter how close to our room, it sounded like they were right in our room. We were woken up 2 or 3 times per night. As people were leaving one morning, wheeling their suitcases, it was very loud. The grounds, pool, lobby etc. are very nice. Service around the pool was very good. I would not go back.
