“Theft from multiple rooms on our stay”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

There were 4 couples we were staying with for a week at the hotel. First as other reviews state, this is not a 5 Star property, 3 fair enough. So the theft. One couple had their safe opened and all and only the cash stolen $700. The manager and staff dealing with the issue at first said all the right things but immediately refused to accept the theft was by a staff member. Luckily the couple using the room had returned within 30 mins and discovered the theft - so the digital key card trail was easy to follow - 2 staff members had entered the room who should not have been there.... In addition the room across from this room had a similar story. The manager explained that he needed a Police Crime report and told them where the Police station was (they failed to explain it was a national holiday and only open 3 hours per day, the only other option is a long drive away in a very bad area). So no police report, and the hotel refuses any responsibility and cannot provide an explanation of the 2 staff entries and insist that the patio/balcony door must have been left unlocked and the thief must have found the very well hidden key..... So on the final try the couple went to the manager and on the same computer screen they were checking details on they saw 3 other similar crimes on the same day.......
The hotel does not warn you firstly to make sure you check the patio door.
Keep key on you at all times (not to mention this is the only hotel in years I have stayed at with keys to a safe????? perhaps to facilitate the crimes....?)
Trust no on not even staff.

We started putting the do not disturb ticket on the door, to keep staff out. On 2 occasions the door was opened by a young man, then closed - I went out and followed him, he had no cleaning equipment and briskly walked away and disappeared.
Finally the tall blonde manager sometimes can speak English and when dealing with theft issues magically cannot.......
Be warned there are many thefts at this resort that are kept quiet.

Room Tip: One with no patio, safe with a combination, and a room away from all the noise

This is the 2nd visit to the Riu Palace..No Issues..except the Pay for internet..this day in age Hotels should just add the extra $ to the room and let there be free internet. The food over all was good, the drinks were good and not watered down as some would suggest. The beach has rough and had course sand.Alot of people were staying at the resort for the big Sammy Hagar birthday bash, nice see see other RedHeads from around the world.
It cost $12 US to go into down town that is for up to 4 people per van..extra people are $3,when in town you need to visit..Happy Endings..great bar..Cabo Wabo..and Cabo Blue..There is alot to do..Have Fun..

Room Tip: First floor oceanview rooms have double beds, higher rooms have king beds..

My husband and I just returned from a week's vacation at the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas. We had an ocean view, junior suite and we had the best vacation ever. We did have to wait for our room as we arrived around noon, but we left out luggage and went out to one of the restaurants for lunch. Our room was what we paid for but we were on the far east side of the resort and it a little deserted, so we switched rooms WITHOUT ANY HASSLE and had a better view and equally as nice a room. The resort was spotless...not a bug, not a fly, nothing...perhaps because it was October, but those people who complained about flies, etc. well, they were non-existent when we were there. The staff were phenomenal....everywhere you turned they were waiting on you hand and foot...Julio at the pool bar was there every time your drink was empty. Colon in the dining room was amazing as was Mercedes and her mother in the outdoor area of the main buffet. The food was great and remember, 5 star in Mexico IS NOT 5 star in Toronto or New York. People really need to lighten up. I am at a loss to think that the people who wrote that they had a bad time could possibly have been at the same resort. We will go again for sure...I can't say enough about what a great time we had, how lovely this resort was and how stunningly beautiful Cabo San Lucas is.

Room Tip: West side of the resort is fine as is the East side...be leary of being too near the west-centre sid...

We stayed at The RIU Palace Cabo the week of October 6 through the 13th. Our room was 4080 and it was centrally located with a great view of Lovers Beach and the area out by the Arch. I would highly recommend this room. After reading all the negative reviews I was concerned, but after a few hours on the property all those worries were gone. The property is beautiful and the staff is constantly cleaning everything. The room was dated but it was well kept and meet all of our needs. Food was hit and miss. We were a group of 6 and were able to get reservations at all the restaurants with no problems. Mexican and Steak House you could make reservations two days in advance. Krystal, the fine dining restaurant you had to make reservations the day off. Japanese restaurant was first come first serve, we were able to walk right in. The group as whole felt that the following meals are what we would recommend: Japanese- Shrimp Tempura Mexican-Beef Filet. Krystal- Beef Filet and Red Snapper(actually Sea Bass). Steak House- Surf and Turf, Grilled Chicken and Ribeye (little fatty but great flavor)were all good. Service was really good at all except the steak house which took a long time to get our meals. Lunch - The Mexican had a really good buffet at lunch. We dined here for lunch since we sat close too it every day at the pool. We sat by the pool here daily due to the close proximity of the restrooms underneath the Mexican Restaurant. Clean Restrooms that you access by walking through the Mexican Restaurant. Only requirement is that you have to wear a cover up or a t shirt when walking through restaurant to access bathrooms. I would highly recommend this location to sit by the pool as well due to the view of the The Arch and Lovers Beach. I would also encourage dining of the property for a few meals. We ate at the Sunset De Mona Lisa- Outside terrace dining with a view of Cabo and the Sea of Cortez. Incredible view, very romantic formal dining. Another night was Maro's Shrimp House-real cool eclectic, dumpy restaurant with positive energy. We had a great time. Need to try their famous Bulldog drink. Also Gordo Lele's was unique for a wonderful afternoon snack. I would also like to recognize the members of the RIU staff who went out of their way to make our trip special: Miguel at Reception, Pillar and Charly at Customer Service, Hermania our housekeeper, Adelia our server at the Mexican Resteruarant, At the noisy pool bar Luis the bar tender, he was awesome. Our servers Cristobal, Nacho and Johny were always responsive to our request and service with a smile. Jelena and Nora on the animation staff, these ladies work 14 hours a day, 6 days a week and maintain a high level of energy and a great attitude. In general I felt the whole staff was accomdating and responsive to any request we had. My advice to all is if there is something you are not happy with let someone know and they go out of their way to make it right. Remember they cannot fix it if they do not know if you are unhappy with something. In summary we had a great vacation and would return to this resort in the future. if anyone has any questions I will be happy to answer them just shoot me a email. Last but not least Muchas Gracias to the entire RIU Palace Cabo staff! Hasta Pronto!

We had an amazing stay at the Riu Palace this past week. The room was nice with an amazing view of the ocean. We had a Jr. Suite on the 4th floor ocean view, which I would highly recommend.
Check-in: Had to wait for our room a while, but didn't mind because we sat and had a few drinks in the lobby bar.
Room- liked the extra room of the suite with the little couch area to sit. The bed was just fine. Not as hard as others have commented. Room had a slight odor, but nothing to complain about. I think it goes with the territory for being in a very humid climate.
Food- Buffett was wonderful. Could always find something we liked. At lunch, go to the Mexican restaurant on the other side of the activity pool. Much more low key, has a great view and food is good. We really liked the Japanese restaurant (no reservation required), but make sure you ask to sit in the garden room. The main room can get very loud.
Pool-fun and relaxing.
Beach-we really liked the area with the lounge chairs under the palm trees.
Hotel - the staff was very friendly and the place was kept clean. Someone is always sweeping or painting somewhere to keep things looking beautiful.

We would stay there again!

Room Tip: 4th floor Jr. Suite!

We stayed at Riu Palace in Sept 2012. We enjoyed every minute of this resort. Excellent service, entertainment and food. We were treated like kings and queens! The beach was off limits for the most part due to strong waves but, it was still very nice. The entire staff worked hard daily to keep the property clean. We stayed on the first floor oceanfront room 1050 we had the best view you can ask for. After reading all the negative reviews on Tripadvisor I was a bit worried however, this place proved to be a great choice. We will be making this trip yearly.

Room Tip: Oceanfront rooms are very worth it!

Just got back from our trip yesterday and we were so sorry to leave. We stayed for 8 days and promised that next time, we spend 2 weeks. The people at the Hotel are accommodating, polite, FRIENDLY and work hard to keep the place in tip top shape. The grounds are beautiful, the hotel lobby is stunning -- open and airy. Make sure you bring lots and LOTS of change, as in, dollar bills and 5's for TIPS. I found it difficult to get change for a 20 dollar bill. If you need it (and you will), ask a bar tender.
My husband and I had a small room with a huge California king-sized bed, something we weren't used to, but greatly appreciated as we both slept like star fish after a full day of activities. We both found the beds comfortable and slept with blankets after cranking the A/C up. There are rooms that have beautiful ocean views, but we stayed in one that had a view of the grounds (we didn't really care as we weren't there to stay in the room).

I had a few complaints -
1. It's very difficult to get a reservation at one of the restaurants. Get the information about the restaurants the FIRST DAY. Krystal (formal dress) -- you can only make reservations same day. My husband and I wound up eating at the Krystal Restaurant twice, only after waking up at 7AM to make sure we had reservations. Even at 7AM I had to stand in line, waiting to get a reservation!! The others, Mexican and steak house you can book up to 2 days in advance, but it's really challenging to get a reservation. My husband and I consider ourselves lucky -- We got to eat at the Mexican place because someone cancelled their reservations last minute and we just so happened to be standing there were it happened.

2. What they call tuna tataki is really not. If you are in the mood for sushi, and I mean good sushi, do not eat at the Japanese restaurant (I think having a husband who is an avid fisherman and knows what good fish is has really spoiled me!). Silly me thought we were in a town that just caught the world record yellow fin tuna, I'll be enjoying tons of amazing tuna... nope! For whatever reason, the appetizers at all the restaurants were truly lacking, whereas the main courses were out of this world.

3. The food at the buffet dinners, although good, is the same thing, day in and day out. You will get sick of it. We rented a car, so getting to town was no big deal and Cabo has wonderful, affordable restaurants. It's a walkable distance, but this was a lazy vacation for me and I was not going to walk in 90 degree weather, then walk around the marina for hours, sweating. Rent a car or get a taxi.

The hotel is really what you make of it. You can stay by the noisy pool all day, drinking, having a great time. We chose to stay at the pool a few mornings, just playing volleyball and ping pong. Others chose to get rowdy and inebriated as there is no end to the kinds and amount of drinks you want. The drinks are NOT watered down -- you want more alcohol, just ask for a double shot, the bar tenders are willing to accommodate.
You can choose to go to the quiet pool and relax there, get a massage (or go into town and find a place that charges $20-30 an hour). It's really up to you... As for us, we are already planning our next trip... :)
