“Heaven on Earth!”
Reviewed June 18, 2007

This resort is truely phenomenal- we booked a week timeshare almost a year ago so finally June 7 came, and we checked in easily and quickly.

Great things:
-Happy hours which travel around each of the 5 pools from 11am, so you can get 2 for 1 drinks ($9 for 2) all day if you plan well!
-The grounds, especially at night, are incredibly romantic and so well kept- the staff were even washing the steps on a regular basis and gardeners were constantly tending to the plants.
-Pitahaya's Degustation Menu was divine. The view is amazing and try to book a waterfront table early in the day. Dinner was a special occasion and expensive ($60 per head) but amazing and well worth it.
-Pools, beach and bars were incredible. Loads of options for the pools, and the off-beach swim up bar pool was a great choice later in the day and a little quieter than those on the beachfront.
-Rooms were large, kitchen a great size, and our 1 bedroom apartment had 2 bathrooms, a jacuzzi and great terrace.
-Service was outstanding, with regular drinks/food rounds at the pool.
-The view and location was to die for. Although quite a way from town, they had a regular shuttle that was $10 per person round trip into Cabo San Lucas, that was well worth the trip.

Only negatives:
-We were offered an 'Introduction to the Resort' 3 minute tour, that we politely declined fearing it may be the timeshare blah. They did call the room for the following 2 days, at 10am, to ask when we may do the tour but we just again declined and they were fine. Think they gave up after that as it was never an issue.
-Room noise is an issue but if you request a top floor room you should be fine. We only got the occasional stilettos on the tiles above and never enough to keep us awake or annoy.
-Restaurants were expensive but we expected this so planned for it. If its a concern, definately pop into Costco or similar on the way to resort as the full kitchen can be used to whip up meals. They also dont seem to mind if you take your own food or drinks down to the pool. The onsite store is also great and you can get most things there.

Overall, we absolutely loved this resort and it truely was our best holiday ever. Timeshare owners get some compensation like 20% off some spa treatments and free use of the gym, so we felt it was fine value for the retail room rates.

Cabo San Lucas was a heap of fun and we did all the usual suspects- El Squid Row (loud and boozy but heaps of fun), MargaritaVilla (delicious!) and Cabo Wabo (great rock club).

I just returned from Hacienda Del Mar and I thought this property was beautiful. Not your usual timeshare location. Since it shares its grounds with a Sheraton Hotel you get alot of extras such as restaurants and shopping. The landscaping is outstanding for being in the desert. We had a one bedroom which was huge with a balcony and laid out very nice. The resort was not real crowded except for Saturday there seemed to be alot more people around. The pools were beautiful but had trouble getting a chair when arriving about noon. It seems people go down early and throw a towel on a chair to save it for the day. Leaving the rest of us out of luck. One note there are lot of stairs, so if you have have any trouble with walking this place will be a challenge.
The food at the restaurants was okay, not a good as I expected by reading all the reviews saying how good it is, and very expensive, actually crazy expensive. We rented a car so we usually went into town for fish tacos ($1.50) and lobster tacos ($3.00) at Gardina's which was my favorite place. Getting around is a little difficult at first, but after a few trips into town you get the hang of it. We went two hours up the coast of the Sea of Cortez to go snorkeling at a live reef in a National Marine Park, one of the people in the timeshare reception area told us about it, they have information on it there. The trip was typical Mexico, dirt roads no signs but well worth the time. The reef is beautiful, you can snorkel all day for $15.00, thousand of colorful fish, sea turtles, sea lions all you would expect, but be sure to gas up and pack a lunch, there is no place to stop or eat.
The timeshare salesmen are annoying all over town, but after you tell them "no" about 4-5 times they get the message. If you want to save some money you could do one timeshare presentation day and get lots of discounts (rental car, dinners, 3 night, 4 day vacation). We did one and got $220.00 off our rental car, they actually handed us $220. cash at the end of the presentation. That was enough for me, but if your early risers you could do one each morning and almost pay for your trip.
The best thing about Cabo San Lucas I would say is the weather, it is perfect. We had 90 degree weather that felt like 75. It is the most perfect weather I have ever experienced. If you want to relax and enjoy great weather Cabo is the place for you, but if you like vacations with activities, this is not the place. There is not much going on unless you golf of fish. However, lounging in the sun day after day is not bad either. Have a great time.

I just returned from Hacienda del Mar. I booked this through RCI trade. I traveled with my daughter and her room mate (in their twenties). First the good:
The grounds were very beautiful. The rooms were large and comfortable. The service was outstanding, and everyone who worked at the resort was very friendly and helpful. The resort is not crowded onto small lots, like much of the rest of Cabo San Lucas, so the landscaping and architecture is alot more calming for a vacation. If you are a planner, you can bring your own food, drinks, etc. into the resort and down by the pool and the resort does not seem to have a problem with this.
Now the bad:
Everything is very expensive. I knew this going into the resort, so we rented a car so we weren't tied to the resort for meals, etc. But for the quality of the food, the prices were way out of line. The sushi was very good and we ate in that restuarant more than once. But the pool food was very substandard. I'm talking nachos made with cheese spread and that green slimey stuff that tries to get passed off as guacamole. Gross! The water in the room was $5.00! Drinks are close to $9! So even if you hit Costco, etc., you are still going to want to be on vacation, so get your wallet out. And the prices are going up. Their breakfast is now $16. per person, and don't even think about ordering water, that is another $4 per person.
The other bad thing that happened to us was the timeshare presentation. We were hounded to attend, and I decided to go. It was a horrible experience, and we were promised dinner for three, which we did not receive. DON'T consider this option at this resort. They are extremely rude and nasty people.
On another point not related to the resort, we felt very uncomfortable in Cabo San Lucas after the dinner hour. The girls were harrassed (not in a good way) and finally just came back to the resort before midnight. My daughter and her room mate live in a large city, so they are used to being out at night. But they were harrassed in a threatening way. Think twice if you are going into town without men or with just one other woman!

I booked through RCI for a 2bdrm Unit and was pleasantly surprised to see that the unit was very spacious, and had 3 FULL bathrooms! The room comes equipped with jacuzzi tub, big patio area, flat screens, filtered water, plenty of towels for the shower, blender and much more. Almost all the reviews are very accurate on this website about the resort. The landscaping is spectacular: flowers, plants and trees all over the resort. It is clean and the staff is very friendly.

Cabo is the "New York of Mexico". Everyone mentions expensive food at this resort but that is the case everywhere. Girasoles has an all you can eat breakfast for $16.99 which is good, but service is a little slow. We ate 1 night at Pitahaynas which was delicious and very good service. The pool bar food is quick and just OK. My reccommendation? Gardenia's in town...absolutely delicious and incredibly reasonable...some of the best tacos in town for $1.80, $2.00 etc.

We are a group of young professionals ages 23-25 looking to relax and have a good time. Note that this resort is somewhat an "older crowd", but I think this was a benefit: nice and quiet. By 5pm, the pool is dead so its a great time for cocktail hour in the hottub.

There is a convenience store on the property so we didn't even have to make the trek over to Costco. You can pick up liquor, beer, cereal, milk, snacks, and even lunch food.

Golf course on the resort property is $350 dollars for greens fees!!!

Cabs are expensive: $20 one-way into town...luckily we were 6 people so it was easy to split. One night my BF and I went to La Esperanza resort for dinner. If you can get in, its a very special resort and the restaurant is unbelievable.

We went shallow fishing which was a lot of fun, go to JC's (Jerry) at the Marina...he's a great guy, runs a good business and has great stories.

Cabo Wabo is so much fun...much older crowd but the live band rocks. After 11:30 it dies, so go over to Zoo or (ugh) Squid Roe...lots of party animals (including us) over there.

Medano beach is a great time, but its really only a 1 day MAYBE 2 day thing. The Office was a blast. Lovers Beach is gorgeous and water taxis are hilarious and dangerous!

I would absolutely go back to Cabo and to HDM in a second...great place and a great resort.

My husband and I stayed at the hacienda del mar the first week of March. Overall i would have to stay our trip was a big disappointment. We've traveled a lot over the years and stayed in so many hotels but this ranks as one of the worst. Here's why:

1. Noisey! - All the rooms are tiled, have thin walls, and jacquzzi tubs. You can here every foot step, chair movement, talking through the walls, every toilet flush and the tub. The hotel knows about this so they automatically give you ear plugs next to your bed to keep the noise out. Also in the middle of the parking lot, close to many of the rooms is a large airconditioning unit thats on 24X7. Make sure you don't get a room by it.

2. Smelley! - In each of the bathrooms next to the toilet is a large open sewer drain. Sewer smell is unavoidable. The hotel does it best by masking the smell with air freshner but plan on having an odor in the room. Something I really didn't plan on, it was just plain awful

3. Mediocre food! - For a place with the only 5star restaurant their food was not worth the money. If you want good food go out to town but definitely stay away from the hotel restaurants

So if you're planning on staying here be wary of what you get.

This resort is simply Excellent!!!! The lush srrounding gardens in the morning is refreshing, the sunrise over the ocean is worth the early rising (don't miss the whales), around this time of year the resort is light of travelers so your eally get the beach to yourself before noon. This place is just awesome.

The rooms are simply beautiful, clean and the housekeeping service is great.

We just returned from our fifth trip to Hacienda Del Mar. We bought a
timeshare three years ago and it was the best thing we've ever done. We love the grounds on the property, there's no where else in Cabo that can compete. It is crowded, and getting chairs by the pool is very competitive. My husband treks out about 7 to throw towels down. We usually return about 8:30 and stay the rest of the day. There are people who put towels out at 6 and never show up until noon, however,
I noticed the concierges removing towels at 9, if no one showed up. The food at the restaurants is delicious, but expensive. We went to our favorite restaurant Villa Serena and also used a reviewer's rec. and went to Puerto Vieja twice!
