Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive Golf & Spa
Ranked #14 of 71 Hotels in Cabo San Lucas
Reviewed August 18, 2006

The resort was beautiful, and for the most part the service was friendly, but there were several problems:

Upon checking in, the bellboys did not approach us to assist us with our bags. The front desk asked that I sign a credit card deposit slip for USD 1,000. I refused, and was allowed to substitute a more reasonable amount of $200.

The maid came each morning at 9am, sometimes waking us up. Our request to the front desk that she come after 10:30 was ignored.

The concierge did not return any of our phone calls.

The room had an ant infestation, which was treated during our stay but which remained a problem after treatment.

The pools were like bathwater, and with an outside temperature reaching 100 degrees and a beach too dangerous to swim in, there was no relief from the heat except our air-conditioned room.

The room information listed the availability of a fitness club to all members, but upon arrival at the fitness club I was informed that the fee was $10 per day.

The resort needs a facelift and a good cleaning. The chairs in the lobby are stained and the rooms are dirty in spots, with frayed furniture.

This resort has great potential, but needs some attention.

Just got back from staying at the Fiesta Americana. It's a beautiful resort. My wife and I took three teenage boys who had a ball. The views are spectacular at this hotel. The staff was awesome and accomodating. The pools are great and like a lot of reviewers say, they are a tad warm for my liking. Never once had to battle for a spot at the pool though made up for it. Twice ate at the Vina del Mar. The kids loved the breakfast buffet and we had a good a la carte dinner there. Sure it's a tad on the pricey side, but the atmosphere and service made it worthwhile. Recommendations: Rent a car if you are planning on doing some excursions or traveling out for dinners. The location is a good 15 minutes away from town. Park at the Mall parking garage as it's easy to navigate and it's free. The location is right next to lots of eating out options. There's also a Costco about 10 minutes down the road. If you are staying in a room with a fridge, this is the way to go. If you have teens, do the Baja ATV 3 hour tour. Well worth the $50.00 plus for each. The trail and setup they have is tops. They take you to a great area where the kids can run the ATV"s to their hearts delight.

My husband and I stayed at the Fiesta Americana from July 18 to July 25. I must say the hotel is quite nice, but it was extremely hot during our stay. There was no relief even in the pools, as they were even hotter than the air temperature.

I also must agree with the person who sent the July 27th review and stayed in the room next to ours, we were in 639 on the Grand Club Level, which included Continental Breakfast, some snacks during the day, as well as beverages. In the evening there were cocktails and snacks.

The girls who worked in the Club Lounge were very helpful and pleasant. I must say the help in the entire hotel was very nice.

We had two dinners in the hotel (pretty good) and the others we had in town and at Las Ventenas. Las Ventenas was really something to see, very romantic. Our dinner was was just okay, not worth the$250. It was was extremely hot that evening, but the waiters did supply ice cold towels for relief. My husband had them coming back and forth numerous times. The dinners in town are far better, and the cost ranges from $60 to $70. We had dinner at Mi Casa (great), Edith's (great), Poncho's (great) and Justo Gusto (on the Marina, not good).

We rented a car and tried in vain to find the Hotel California. One person at the hotel told us it was about a 40 minute ride and so we drove, and drove, and drove (for about 1 1/2 hours) and guess what? we never found the Hotel California. The ride to find it was in the desert and although it was scenic, I didn't feel comfortable being in the desert for that long.

I think I would return to this hotel in the future, but I certainly would not go again at this time of year.

My husband and I stayed at the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos for six nights, 7/19 to 7/25. My review is based on our experience at the Los Cabos International Airport and our stay at a Deluxe Room in the Grand Club section of the Fiesta, as well as our comments on all the restaurants we ate at. My husband and I are business owners in our late 20's and we have traveled to almost every island in the Caribbean, Bermuda and Hawaii.

LOS CABOS AIRPORT: Be prepared to walk out of the plane to form a line to clear your documents. Some Mexican Custom Agents were faster then ours, and our line did move very slow. Even for "Mexican time". Baggage claim is a bit unorganized and even when American Airlines lost my husband's luggage Mexican attendants did not seem to have a solid tracking system. So be patient if this happens to you!.
Ride to the hotel from the airport by charter Suburban was about 25 minutes. If you rent a car at the airport just follow the signs towards Highway 1 (their only major road) or Cabo San Lucas/ Turistic Corridor.
CHECK-IN : Lobby is bright and air-conditioned and the check-in pocess was somewhat quick. We did have one of the hotel's representatives quickly approach us about their Vacation Club while she walked us over to the Conceirge's Desk for help with our lost baggage. After checking in with the Conceirge, (Juan, thank you!) and being informed that he would personally call American Airlines until they could confirm that our bag will be safely deliver to us that evening, the hotel's Vacation Club representative offered to pay for our rental car (which we picked up at the hotel from Dollar) if we would attend their information Brunch. We politely declined and she didn't bother us much after that. Passed the check-in area is the Lobby Lounge and Bar, which we never stayed in since it was over 90 degrees during our visit and this area is not air-conditioned.
CAR RENTAL: Following the advice of other reviewers we made an online reservation with Dollar and picked-up our Dodge Stratus from the hotel for about $23 per day. The hotel's valet was repeatedly slow, the slowest ever!, but it is just so much more convenient to have your own car, not to mention cheaper.
OUR ROOM IN THE GRAND CLUB SECTION: We stayed in room#638, with a great view of the pools and ocean. Our room was kept clean every day and didn't encounter any problems with housekeeping. Turn-down service was very nice, and it was done almost every night.
The Grand Club Lounge is located on the 1st floor of this section of the hotel and we truly enjoyed this service. Every morning they offered continental breakfast, which we took advantage of a few mornings when we were in the mood for light-fare. The manager Olivia was a doll!. She helped us with all our dinner, Spa and lunch reservations. The Grand Club Pool is also located a few steps from the lounge and we found this to be our favorite of all the numerous pools. Although not as large as the others the Club pool never seem crowded, and was great for relaxing.
THE BEACH: Great for sunbathing with nice lounge chairs underneath pretty palapas. The sand is very rocky and the beach itself is not very suitable for swimming.
FOOD: Lunch @ Peninsula, just once. Restaurant is outdoors with lots of fans circulating the ocean breeze. Food was good. Friendly servers. Bill was about $58 dollars (plus tip) for 2 people.
Breakfast @ Vina del Mar, twice. Not air-conditioned!. Buffet was ok. Not a great deal of choices, but there is an omelette station. Our bill was about $61 dollars (plus tip) for 2. They also offer an a la carte option.
SPA / FITNESS CENTER: We both had a 80 minute "Relaxing massage" which was ok. Could have been a little better if the rooms were air-conditioned. Forget using the steam room or sauna!. We only used the gym twice since it was under equipment renovation and it presented an inconvenience.
All and all, the hotel is kept immaculately clean, the grounds are pretty and the service is good.

In addition, I'll like to share our experience at other hotels and restaurants...
ONE & ONLY PALMILLA: Beautiful resort. We were originally supposed to stay @ the One and Only, but hotel was booked solid. Visited twice!. The Elemis Spa is fantastic!. We both had the "Sublime Lime and Ginger Ritual" at our own private "cottage" with an outdoor courtyard with a jacuzzi and Bali bed, and air-conditioned treatment room with double beds and large stand-up shower. Phenomenal!.
We returned the next day for dinner @ AGUA. The restaurant itself is beautiful, passed the infinity pool and with views of the gardens and ocean. Food was good. Service was excellent. Bill was about $225 for 2 (plus tip)
FRENCH RIVIERA: Along Highway 1 on the way to Cabo San Lucas. Just delicious!. We had about 5 courses, and although the portions are not large, every course was better than the next. Service was very good. The chef received our compliments and thanked us on our way out. Bill was about $210 for 2 (plus tip).
OTHER RESTAURANTS WE RECOMMEND: LOS GARCIA on the marina - Delicious!!!. NICK-SAN in Cabo San Lucas. Great sushi!!. AMARONE on the marina - Good italian. LORENZILLO'S - The best place for lobster. PITAHAYAS @ The Sheraton. Located in the same complex as the Fiesta. Beautiful outdoor location underneath a giant palapa. Asian-Fusion menu was good. Service was ok . Bill was about $165 for 2 (plus tip).
SENOR SWEETS - Just desserts, but The best desserts!

In closing, we will probably return to Los Cabos in the future but will opt to stay at a private villa or at the One & Only just due to our expected level of service and ammenities which the Fiesta Americana Grand just can not meet.

Our family of 4 was bumped from the Hilton and landed at the Fiesta Americana Grand. We knew this was the right place as soon as we walked into the open lobby and saw the beautiful view of the Sea of Cortez.
The landscaping, location, and pools are gorgeous. We stayed on the club level, which included a very nice comfortable room along with a fish named Matisse. The Grand Club included daily breakfast, snacks, water, soda, cocktails and a great concierge staff. Make sure to say hello to Guadalupe and Olivia, they will really help you out. We stayed mainly at the Club Level pool where it was very quiet and met many nice people. The staff around the pool was very quick and accomodating. There was a convention going on while we were there but there was plenty of room for everyone. This is the first big resort that we have stayed that you did not have to get up at 6 a.m. to save a lounge chair under an umbrella, they have plenty of comfortable seating. There are even hammocks and double lounges. We did not eat at any of the restaurants other than poolside service, prefering to venture out. The location was very nice too, right inbetween San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. I would suggest a car, there is only one main highway and it is easy to get around.
We can't wait to come back to this fine property.

My only suggestion would be to improve on the valet service, there was always a very lengthy wait to get the car.

My wife and I stayed at this resort in June of this year. Like many, I was nervous about choosing a good hotel. We had never been to Mexico before and prefer 4-5 star places. Well, we got lucky and found this place. My Pros and Cons:

Pros:
1) The hotel is immaculate. Landscaping and grounds are incredible. Very clean resort, well maintained.
2) Rooms are great. Nice tile work and decor. We were inmpressed.
3) We never got hounded about timeshares! The concierge mentioned the option once during our check in and we never heard a peep again! I don't know what some are talking about.
4) The pools and grounds are prestine and relaxing. We were never crowded, always had a choice of spots, and choice of awesome pools.
5) Don't worry about the food and drink; was all safe here. A few restaurants to choose from.
6) The staff is very friendly and respectful. Porters are great, Cabs are waiting in the wings, and was $20 to town.
7) You could spend your days relaxing poolside and nights in town partying!

Cons:
1) Food is a bit pricey. It is pretty good, but can cost you. Best to eat in town when you can. Btw, the buffet was $40 not the $70 someone claimed. Room service seemed reasonable though.
2) Service can be a little slow. Friendly, but slow. Had to call twice to get pillows and such. No big deal.
3) The beach is no good for swimming, but is immaculate with nice cabanas for sunbathing.
4) The gift shop prices are outrageous. My wife lost her make-up bag and spent $36 on two minor items! Avoid the shop for neccesities!

Tips: treat yourself to a beachside massage, they were $80 for 50 minutes! Great way to relax with your spouse! Don't rent a car, taxi instead. Parking in town is a crapshoot. If there are two of you, get a cab at your convenience, don't worry about hotel shuttle hours. The cost is the same ($20 cab vs $10 each shuttle). Don't worry about bringing Pesos. Everyone takes Dollars. Just bring different denominations. Book the deluxe club rooms if you can swing it. The continental breakfasts and free water will save you a few bucks. Have Fun!

We've just returned from a week at Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos. My husband and I took our five year old daughter and our nine month old son. We had a very relaxing and fun time at this hotel.

There's live music at breakfast and in the afternoons by the fire pit.

The kids club at this hotel is complimentary, as well as the kids meals for kids under 6 years old. The breakfast buffet is great, as well as the food at the restaurant adjacent to the pool.

The swimming pools are great ( I believe there are 8). The main swimming pool is composed of 3 large pools; the first part of the pool is for toddlers, the second part of the pool is about 36 inches deep and the last part of the pool overlooking the ocean is about four feet deep.

The beach at this hotel is surrounded by large rocks creating a small bay where all the fish like to hang out. A great place to snorkle.

Waiting for another chance to return with the family.
