Grand Fiesta Americana Los Cabos All Inclusive Golf & Spa
Ranked #11 of 70 Hotels in Cabo San Lucas
Reviewed August 3, 2014

This was my first time staying at Fiesta Americana. Here's a summary of pros and cons for the resort.

PROS
- simple and straightforward check-in & check-out process
- overall good service, if you ask they will endeavour to help you out (but you have to ask)
- low-pressure time-share pitch upon check-in (to be expected but some resorts are much more intense)
- lots of beach and pool seating, hammocks around the property are lovely
- excellent beach views, small sheltered area that is ok for swimming
- easy to walk around the resort. Golf carts available if you need but isn't hard to walk anywhere.
- shuttle to Cabo is reasonably priced and quite convenient
- fairly quiet resort with not a lot of scheduled activities (guess this is a pro or a con depending on what you are looking for)

CONS
- expensive taxi rides outside of resort besides to Cabo (check out car rental on-site if you want to do day trips)
- food at on-site restaurants is ok but not overwhelming, not worth the all-inclusive price in my opinion
- rooms are basic, serviceable and clean however it may be time for upgrades throughout the resort

We just returned from 4 days spent at the Fiesta Americana. Our room was 642 and while it wasn't the nicest or largest room we have ever had in Mexico, it was nice, clean and well appointed. The restaurants were nice and the food was pretty good (I'd give it an 7 out of 10). The sushi restaurant was the best Ive ever had oddly enough! The staff is always accommodating and willing to do whatever, whenever. The food and water were clean and safe, although you can get water bottles for free everywhere. The beach is not necessarily swimmable but if you bring a snorkel and goggles you can see all the big, beautiful fish right at the shore line. If you are planning on going places outside the resort, I suggest you rent a car or prepare to pay big time. Taxis were insanely expensive and the resort shuttle only goes to downtown Cabo once an hour for $10 USD per person each way. Also, if you decide to take a taxi, make sure you negotiate the price before you get in, as with any taxi in Mexico. I had read in several reviews to bring proper beach shoes since it was rocky, I now understand what they mean. Seriously, bring some water shoes or tennis shoes you can wear on the beach - flip flops do not count. The sand was not the soft, powdery sand I am used to; it is large granules which were very sharp. If you need a ride to and from the airport, you need to book this in advance, there are weird taxi union laws in Mexico. I suggest Transcabo - it was a great price and the vehicles were very nice.

Let me first say this resort is beautiful and has awesome service!!! The pool side service is the best I've seen anywhere!! I cannot make this any clear to the management or owners of this resort. We will not be back until you get the air conditioning fixed in all the restaurants and common areas. The only relief you get from the heat is your room and while the rooms are very nice, it's not where I want to wind down for the evening. I nice air conditioned bar would be great! Lastly be careful with valuables because theft was an issue both in and outside the rooms.

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice.

We totally agree that this is an amazing resort set in the desert but right on the Sea of Cortez which makes for a stunning setting.
We appreciate your comments about the fault with air conditioning. We have a new unit arriving any day now with an overall investment of over $700,000 USD.
We are currently working on a project for a bar and entertainment center which will be part of our great all inclusive package.
Thank you for your comments.

My husband and I have been to Cabo 6 times, each time at All Inclusive Resorts, but this was our first time at Fiesta. After staying at Dreams and Barcelo, we were expecting something similar, but Fiesta is 3.5 stars at best. We were there July 23-July 31 and I want to share some information that I hope will be helpful to others considering a stay at the resort:

First impressions were not great. The lobby is small and cramped, nothing like the wonderful entrances that have been at every other resort we have been to. They don't greet you with a drink or a cool towel like at Dreams, Barcelo or Rui. Not a huge deal but a first impression is a lasting impression. Likewise, the grounds of the property aren't nearly as pretty as the other places we have been.

We loved the pool side service. The menu for that was pretty expansive and we felt the waiters were fast. We tipped and were happy to do so because they work very hard.

The pools are very pretty and large. However, they are so unbearably hot that it wasn't worth getting in. We've always been to Cabo the last week of July, so we knew it would be very hot outside, but no other resort pool we have ever been to has been remotely this hot.

The rooms are so-so. In comparison to other places we have stayed, they are smaller and just generally not as impressive. There was something about them that also just didn't seem especially clean. And the balcony is incredibly small. But our view from the 5th floor was fantastic.

There is no air conditioning anywhere except your room. And, we had to switch rooms upon arrival because the air wasn't working in our first room and they couldn't get it fixed. Although it was a pain to change, it was fine once we did. But none of the restaurants, the lobby, the elevators, etc have air. That's just unacceptable for the amount of money you pay.

You can't get change, even for a $10 bill, anywhere on the resort. So frustrating since we wanted it to tip the hardworking staff.

Food-generally pretty good. We especially thought lunch and room service were good. Breakfast was fine but I thought it was odd that there was no variety from day to day in the buffet. Absolutely no variety. And no ability to order off of a menu at either of the 2 breakfast restaurants. Dinner was okay, we liked the steakhouse a lot. The Mexican and Italian restaurants were weird and we didn't go back to either one after eating there once. In short, the food was good if not great.

I was surprised there was no entertainment at night, except for a couple of songs around a fire pit. Similarly, we couldn't really go to any bars at night because there was no air conditioning.

The gym was nice and we enjoyed using that. It is air conditioned, however, they refused to turn the air up much so it was still very hot.

There were a lot of kids there, more than other places we have been. And they were pretty unruly in the pool area at times. There isn't any music or activity at the pool.

All in all, we had a good time. I'm writing the lengthy review with our honest opinions because I rely on reviews very heavily when choosing a resort. The truth is, Fiesta is a nice place but 3.5 stars at best and as such, overpriced. You can stay at other, nicer resorts for less. We would not return to Fiesta but there were certainly some nice points of the resort.

This was our first experience at an all-inclusive resort and we were not disappointed. Service was very friendly and efficient. The check in process was a little slow, but we may have arrived at a busy time.

The hotel had 4 pools in all, 2 of which were infinity (which we loved). The grounds were beautifully landscaped. The beach, clean, but rough surf. You could only go out so far, but since the coastline was rocky, fish were everywhere and it offered excellent snorkeling, only steps away! Finding shade around the pool was limited as people did reserve spots early. The pool staff were very accommodating, but the umbrellas were cemented down, so they weren't too flexible to maneuver. Towels were always provided.

Mostly all of the restaurants were open air, so at this time of year (we went in July) it was very hot. We ate at Rosato (Italian/dinner), Vino del Mar (breakfast/dinner), Peninsula (breakfast/lunch and Asian for dinner) and La Bodega (Argentinian steakhouse/dinner). We did not go to the other options, simply by our preference in the menu choices. The food had a nice presentation and was always hot. The breakfast buffet had such a wide variety of offerings, it was never boring. Food quality was excellent. As for the drinks, always flowing and accommodating.. Drinks were mild at first, but my husband would ask for an extra shot of rum, or whatever and it was accommodated.

The rooms are well appointed and clean. Bathroom was spacious and we loved the shower. Only complaint was the bed. The pillows were too soft and the mattress was lumpy. It needed to be flipped or replaced. We did have a sore back after a couple of nights. However...

We visited the Somma Wine Spa, which was excellent! Wonderful massages and facilities. I would highly recommend.

This hotel is secluded, located in an gated community of Cabo del Sol. You would need a car or taxi to take you in to town. Not a far distance to go, but you can't really walk anywhere from there.

Hotel wasn't too far from the airport. We used GreyLine, so I'm sure it was a bit longer than normal since there were other stops before ours. We probably got to the hotel in little over 30 minutes or so.

All in all, we would highly recommend this resort! Certainly well worth it's rating!

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor, which was steps away from one of the restaurants that served breakfast...

We had such a wonderful time at this property last summer that we chose to return in March for another 8 day vacation with our 2 children (ages 6 & 8). Though it was fantastic each time, the improvements made to the property between our August and March trips were notable: the food was exceptional, the staff seemed more trained (with exception of the front desk and bell staff) and the operations of this large hotel overall seemed smoother.

Rooms: We stayed in the villas section of the hotel during our first trip (just below the newly completed section), and although it was a newer section of the hotel, the bathrooms were small and only had a tub/shower combo. The room had a large table with 4 seats which was nice for the times we had room service, and the large balconies were certainly a bonus from which to enjoy gorgeous ocean views. However, it was a long walk/many stairs to the pool and beach which was not a problem for our family but it might be difficult for some guests. We stayed in the ocean view rooms (above the Grand Club) during our most recent visit and enjoyed that room as well. The bathroom featured a large tub and separate shower, as well as 2 vanities, which was much more comfortable for our family of 4 than the setup in the villas. Beds are firm but comfortable. Plenty of closet space, as well as chest of drawers for clothing storage. Very small balcony in these rooms though.

Food: The change of the beachfront restaurant, Peninsula, to include breakfast service was very smart, as it was so nice to have the ability to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner from this stunning location. We dined in Vina del Mar and Peninsula most mornings and the buffet was well stocked and well staffed. Yes, there are problems with flies that the staff does their best to keep away from the food, but Cabo is in a tropical location so there is only so much that can be done, so don't complain! We enjoyed the Sushi Sky Bar, which was delicious and gorgeously remodeled, as well as Rosato which was wonderful as well. The addition of the tapas by the fire pit, complete with the cozy couches that are moved into the area in the evening, was very enjoyable. Room service was always fast and the food was always very good too.

Beach & Pool: YES, the beach is rocky and when the tide is up, there is a small swimming area, but this is by no means a calm beach for swimming. If you are looking for that experience, this is not the property for you. However, if you are looking for great snorkeling (though carefully due to all of the nearby rocks) and fish feeding (a big hit with the kids) with stunning views of the waves crashing on the rocks, you've found it. Enjoying the beauty of the beach from the cabanas is not to be missed. The pools are clean and comfortably warm, and the pool area is well staffed. An area of improvement would be to have the towels removed from the unused chairs in a more timely manner throughout the day at both the pool and beach, as they definitely pile up on chairs and do not appear to be cleaned up until early evening.

Staff: My husband was unfortunately 3 weeks off knee surgery and on crutches the whole time, and the staff was very kind to help him around as best they could. Haime and Raphael took exceptional care of us and our children at both the beach and pool each day, and certainly deserve the recognition they deserve from management. Raphael helped us set up chairs in the grass by the Bikini swim up bar every day he was working in that area, and Haime was one of the fastest, hardest working beach servers we've ever seen. Israel was wonderful at La Cevicheria and loved my husband's ball cap so much that we ended up giving it to him! I've never seen a happier guy as the recipient of such an unusual tip! Housekeeping was great as well and did a great job of keeping our room exceptionally clean. The front desk and bell staff need some work, as they did not seem to be sincerely focused on the guests' needs, including proper welcoming upon arrival and questions about your stay upon departure. There seemed to be a lack of care in that area in each of our travels to this property, which is not a good first nor last impression for guests. The bell staff did way too much congregating and socializing rather than focusing on the guests, including the basics of opening the lobby doors for guests.

The falcon: Do not be alarmed by the very well trained guy walking around with the falcon (yes, literally, a real falcon!) that is present to chase off the seagulls that clutter the beach and pool. Apparently the seagulls are terrified of this bird and we were always happy to see him around, as the seagulls quickly depart upon seeing this raptor touring the property and are no longer a nuisance to the guests. Brilliant idea for bringing in this unique service to the hotel!

Fiesta Kids Club: Great experience last summer but not impressed at all this time. The staff ladies were quite rude and seemed annoyed that we checked in on our kids periodically. We also did not like the amount of time they were allowed to go on the computers rather than organizing more activities in the playroom and physical activities outside.

Bottom line is that this is a 4 star, not a 5 star hotel, so manage your expectations. There are problems at every property no matter which star level it is, but overall, this is a wonderful property that we would definitely return to. Great value in a stunning location.

Room Tip: Well worth paying extra for ocean views, higher floors of course
