“Nice Hotel”
Reviewed May 9, 2007

This hotel is very convenient to Cabo San Lucas. You can easily get to bars and malls. The Mariana is across the street. If you like to walk use the Mariana to get to the shops and bars instead of walking along the streets.

Make sure you lock up items in the safe – We always keep a few things
locked in our bags and found that the cleaning staff had tried to get
into them. We had one lock that was set at 000 and they changed the combo.

The beach is on the Pacific side and is to rough for swimming. El Arco is about a 15 min. walk down the beach but will have to scale the boulders to access the beach. Not to difficult to do but cross carefully.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The activities desk was handy for doing daily things around town.

We had an amazing stay at the Finisterra! The view of the ocean was beautiful and our room was very well taken care of. The staff was very helpful at check-in, making sure we knew at the start of our vacation that they had services for everything, including booking us for any activity we wanted to do. That was extremely helpful since we had never been to Mexico before. The pool is just as glamorous as it looks in the pictures, if not more, and the swim-up bar is a plus too! We happened to get a deal on our hotel price, but I have said to everyone I've talked to that I would pay full price to stay there again. I hope to go back sometime soon!!

I read all the reviews on here before we booked. I was a little skeptical at first becasue of all the mix feedback. I have to say I was impressed upon arrival.
The hotel sits up on the hill and beach, with a view of Cabo on one side, and the ocean on the other side. We upgraded our rooms to Ocean view, but I think all the rooms have somewhat an ocean view regardless. The pool area is gorgeous. I think there's like 3 or 4 pools, and many hot tubs.
They have a bar and restaurant that is located high up the hill, both have breathtaking views. The restaurant is delicious...i highly recommend anything they serve with sea bass.
People complain on this site about the hike to town. Yes it sits up on a hill, its a fairly short walk up or down hill, not so great in the heat. BUT...they have a shuttle at the lobby or wave at security at the bottom of the hill and they'll pick you up. Once down hill, you're literally on the marina where everything is. And yes, its comforting to know they have security monitoring the grounds.
We went during spring break, and we wanted to be able to party with the crowd, yet not go home to students screaming across the hallways and lobbies either. I had a wonderful stay at Finisterra and would highly recommend it for first time and returning vacationers.

  • Liked — The beautiful views, friendly staff
  • Disliked — The hike up the hill (shuttle made up for it)

While booking a quick weekend away in Cabo, I was mostly hoping for a nice, yet affordable hotel. For the most part, we were happy with the Finisterra.

The wing that we stayed in overlooked the ocean and had relatively nice rooms that (while showing their age), were large, with decent sized patios.

Our main *complaint* about the rooms was the noise level, from surrounding rooms. Every morning, we were awakened by our neighbors, and we don't exactly sleep late. The floors in all the rooms are tile, which, from my experience, is a bad thing. Anytime anyone within a two-room radius would move any of their chairs around, we'd hear it loud and clear. Same with the doors in the room...we knew every time our neighbors came or left. Not bad at 5pm, but bad at 6am.

Our main *compliment* for this hotel was the location. The Finisterra is just far enough from the marina to be a quiet retreat from the constant noise and partying. It is a quick walk from all of the restaurants and bars. I think the furthest we walked was to the far opposite end of the marina, and that took about 20 minutes.

The pools were beautiful at the Finisterra, and there was always towel/chair availability. As the ocean is really rough at this end of the coast, you'll probably spend most of your time off the beach. Although don't pass on the opportunity to take a few minutes on the ridge of the beach and admire the HUGE waves.

The food and drink at the Finisterra were decent, for the few times we actually ate there. We got room service one night and the sandwiches were good. Beware, though...we got some drinks at the Whale Watcher Bar, and they were very pricey. $9USD for a watered-down cosmopolitan was a bit of a surprise. Great view, though, and the price for beers is right.

All in all, I would recommend the Finisterra to anyone that is looking for a nice hotel with a good value. I would say that if you're paying anything over $125-$150 per night, you are probably overpaying.

*Pros*
Great location
Excellent views
Relatively inexpensive
Great photo spots
Nice pool area

*Cons*
Noisy rooms
Uncomfortable beds
Average service
Hotel starting to "show its age"
Entryway construction makes it tough to leave the hotel grounds

Ok maybe I'm a hotel snob but the Finisterra was just passable for us. First the good. Location is great. Could not ask for better spot to walk to just about anywhere. Second; the Whale Watcher bar. Great spot to have drinks and watch for whales. Third; Jorge the Manager was very helpful. The bad; the beds, the pools (cold, no umbrellas, ran out of towels), the rooms definitely needed some updating, gift store (very small selection of sundries and eats). Yes, Yes, I know it is Mexico and standards are a bit different but it was not up to our standards. Visited a couple other places, Playa Grande, Pueblo Bonito Rose, much nicer amenities. Would I stay there again? No. Will I go back to Cabo? Absolutely!!!! What a great place. We're in love!

we just returned from our second visit to cabo san lucas, mexico
last visit was a corporate event at a hotel on the corridor, this time on our own we decided to book in town and chose the finisterra. what a delightful hotel! so close to the marina yet seems totally remote from the hustle and bustle of cabo. the beach is private and no vendors on the beach is delightful since you get so hounded downtown. the service at the hotel was exemplary..the pools are great..even on cooler days there are like 10 hottubs always hot and bubbling around the pools..
my one complaint was that the mattresses on the beds are like cconcrete and i literally went downtown and bought an air mattress for my side of the bed..i heard many people complain about that

we saw so many whales right off the coast of where the hotel is we finally decided to go out whale watching and the concierge set up a great adventure for us..we loved it

we walked into town and back twice a day and i figured out we walked probably 8-10 miles a day..no wonder im exhausted!!

i highly recommend finisterra if you want basic, clean, good service and great location for not a ton of money

We went to Cabo with one thing in mind...see Sammy Hagar at the Cabo Wabo Cantina! As luck would have it, and after reading the many reviews on this site, we chose to stay at Finisterra. The day we arrived, Jan.4, we met people who had been going to Cabo for 10+ years - and staying at this hotel. Sammy was still in town and was giving his last show of the New Year the next night. His band was at our hotel and hanging poolside every day we were there. Most everyone at the poolbar was a Sammy fan, and told us the secret of getting the free tickets to the show. The morning of a show, before 8:00, go to the Cantina and get in line at the front door. If you are one of the first 150 or so, each person in line gets 2 tickets to that nights show. We got there at 7:45 and were about 75th in line. The show was great and the crowd was really into it. About the hotel...the food is great and reasonable. The staff is great - especially all of the guys at the poolbar. Happy hour every day from 2 to 5 pm - 2 for 1 Mexican beers and blender cocktails. Can you say mucho Margaritas?! Pay the extra bucks to get an oceanview Club room - the view is fabulous!

  • Liked — The Beach Club rooms are huge and the view is fabulous
  • Disliked — The mattress is thin and I woke up with a backache each morning
