“Relaxing stay at Finisterra”
Reviewed April 28, 2005

Finisterra is a slightly above average hotel that cannot be beat
for location. The Marina area is an easy 10 minute walk as
are several of the most popular restaurants and nightclubs. The
rooms in the Palapau section are roomy with microwave, fridge
and stovetop. The bathroom was adequate. Inroom safe and
ironing board. There is a small workout facility and 2 tennis
courts. Didn't eat at the restaurants but menus seemed good.
The pool area is quiet and the poolside service was prompt and
good. The surf at the beach is awesome in fury but is unswimmable.
The view from the Whalewatcher Bar is nice but the whales had
already migrated north during my April stay. Overall a nice
experience for the money. Much less hustle and bustle that the
Medano beach resorts.

Location, location, location

The Hotel Finisterra is ideally located; a secluded beach , but still alive with lovers and familys and with the roar of the waves, access to the arch - because you are just-about on lands-end, and a short walk to the center of Cabo. The Hotel, especially the older part, is a piece of artwork, really. The resort landscaping - beautiful. The staff is more-than accommodating, the rooms are above average, the pool and beach views are spectacular, the pools are very, very cool... The food is the only close-to-average aspect of the hotel, but still not a solid reason to not stay. All-in-all, it's a groovy trip baby

Recently stayed there in the "older" section which we were unsure of from prior reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The morning view of the sunrise over the marina was beautiful. The hill to get down to the street is steep but shuttle was prompt in picking us up to get us up or down the hill. Staff was very hospitable and pools were heated. Beach is unswimmable but waters were too cold anyway.

Location was key...10 minute walk into town could not be beat, especially with the high cost of cabs.

Highly recommend the hotel.

We were surprised at how nice our stay was. Having read some of the reviews we expected a mixed reaction and were a little wary. We were booked to stay in the old section one night and the Palapa section for the next two nights, and the hotel actually upgraded us for a minimum fee to stay in the time share section (the front desk was very helpful in this regard). The room was quiet and beautiful.
The view of the Pacific is wonderful, from the Whale watcher's bar it's magnificent. We loved the pool (hint: get your shade spot early and check if you can get out of the wind), plus the walks on the beach, we actually went all the way hiking over the rocks to Lover's Beach and swam there. It's an easy walk to the marina, to shop and to restaurants, any and all action you might want is ten minutes away, yet the hotel is a quiet oasis to come back to.
The staff were helpful and cordial, I would rate this trip closer to 5 dots than 4, and would recommend this hotel as half way between above average and excellent.

We booked our trip for the "older" section of the Finisterra b/c the newer, Palapa section was booked -- I thought I would "sweet talk" my way into the newer section once we got there, but no such luck (and I had blonde hair!). I had been very scared to stay in the older section b/c of prior reviews. However, we could not have been more pleasantly surprised. Now, there is an "E" section and an "F" section (I think), and we stayed in the "E" section (E-29). Our room had a great view of the marina and the town - it was beautiful, especially at night! As for the room - no it is not brand-new, and I spent a lot of time thinking about how I would "redecorate" the rooms. But the rooms were fine -- nice tile floors, clean, ample closet space, etc, beautiful wood doors. And the shower was the BEST part! That water pressure was great, it was hot, and it was a big, open shower!! Another plus was the great maintenance staff -- we had a burnt out lightbulb and some toilet issues when we first got there, and I swear, they must have been hidden next door for as quickly as they arrived! The housekeeping girl was awesome, too. One downside to consider, however -- there is construction by the marina (a shame, really), so that may be a distraction, and there be noise in the morning that could be annoying (we slept with our doors open, so we could hear the bulldozer, but if you close the doors, it probably isn't that bad). Architecturally speaking, it is a shame that they built the newer section in such different style. The older section really does fit with the environment and is so beautiful -- the stone and structure of it is breathtaking. Anyway, I would definitely stay there again -- walking to restaurants, bars, and shopping is the BEST -- If you want to party, you can hop over to Medano beach, or you can stay at Finisterra and chill. I would never stay at one of the farther-out resorts. And for the price, you just cannot beat Finisterra!!

Stumbled onto the Finisterra via the internet. Walked into paradise. Very laid back, low key. No pressure. No high pulse activity. Great views, whale watching from bar, good food, close enough to walk to everything. We've been back 3 times. Going back again and again.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Location was perfect - a 15 minute walk to town. Great to avoid the crowds and really relax. Also good to walk off the dinners at night. Rooms were spacious and clean. Staff was helpful especially in restaurant recommendations. We arrived @3 pm and our room was not only not ready, when we did get in, the room was not what we had confirmed we would get. However, the next day we were in a room that met all our requests. Be careful with room selection. Rooms west of the lobby back up to a very loud, whole building, air conditioner unit whose fans run 24/7. Try to get a room to the east of the lobby in the new section.
When you arrive, you will be greeted by a hostess. This person appears to be welcoming you to the Hotel and is ready to answer any questions you may have. Their real purpose is to line you up to take a 75 min tour/sales pitch for a time share. Your reward for this tour is one of a number of selections. Most people take a $100 US dollar credit, good at the Finisterra. But make no mistake, this is a sales pitch. We went to the sales pitch, did not purchase and went to pick up our gift. We were given the gift and then passed on to another person who tried to get us to go on another tour/sales pitch. I am going into detail on this so that potential visitors will have the option of avoiding this experience.

I will answer any email inquiries regarding the Finisterra.
