“Beautiful views...great location”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

This was a perfect location where you could literally walk to everything...shopping, marina, bars/food but the only drawback was the construction going on everyday. If you are like us, you aren't in your room much during the day anyway so you dont really notice it but they also had the largest pool closed for work. This did not bother us as we preferred the beach anyway and there are 2 other huge pools so no problem there. This property had the prettiest beach by far and had tiki "shade" huts with lounge chairs on the beach which the other properties did not. The food was awesome! We have always done all-inclusive on past trips so this time we took the breakfast package only because we heard the restuarants, etc were so close and cheap to eat so we were glad we did this. Every evening wherever we ate was great and the breakfast at the resort was so good, we fueled up there every morning.

Room Tip: We were on the 1st floor due to construction of the higher up floors. I was initially disappointed...

This was our 7th stay at the Finesterra. It's got a great location, walking distance to town. Upon arrival it was obvious they are in the midst of a major renovation. Floors 5-8 are closed as well as one of the 3 pools & one of the two bars. When we complained Roberto at the front desk told us we could leave & get a refund. He said we should have known as it was on the hotel website. This was a flagrant lie! We showed him the website, which said NOTHING about construction. He said they would change it. Noise was constant from 9am till well into the evening.
This has been a good property in the past but, should be avoided until all construction is done.

Spent most of the time at the pool and thanks to Joel, BowWow, Baldemar, and Abel we had a blast. Thanks guys, hope to see you again soon. La Palapa and the Blue Marlin both had amazing food. Received excellent instructions from Eduardo at the front desk and he answered any and all questions we had the whole week we were there.

Lots of construction and refurbishing going on 7 days per week. The Finisterra will be a great vacation spot again... given time. There have been no improvements to the timeshare units. There is a least one working ice machine off the main lobby. We were told the old units on the Marina side below the old lobby road will be torn down and replaced. They still stand.

Room Tip: We have a timeshare and this review is given on that basis. You want a room on the Pacific side with...

Thank you for your comments.

As a member of the Finisterra Vacation Club you have been witness to the gigantic efforts being made in the public areas, pool, beach and restaurants.

In regards to room all the original section built in the 70´s has been remodeled and will be maybe some of the best rooms in the Cabo area.
As far as the Time Share units they will also be receiving a face lift starting with the Flat Screen HD 39´ TV´s been installed as we speak.

We assure you that for your next trip you will be amazed to see the improvements and benefits that the new Sandos Finisterra will have to offer.

Looking forward to your next visit and comments.

Horrid, horrid experience at the Finisterra. Booked through Expedia last minute since the price was decent, and pictures and reviews were OK. First thing we noticed driving up the hill was a construction tape along the road. Got out of the shuttle and the air was just thick dust hard to breath in. The noise explained the air quality immediately - heavy drilling was going on right by the wall by the road. We had booked a junior suite and added a remark asking for a higher floor (just in case since some reviews did mention SOME construction going on). We got a room in the 2nd floor and were told there was nothing else available - hotel is fully booked. We wanted to see it first and sure enough the drilling was right behind the room. The walls and doors are so thin that the noise was overwhelming. Back at the reception we complained and they "found" another available room, not a suite but a small, regular room with two beds only (there were 3 of us travelling) on the other side of the building where it was supposed to be less noisy. Well, the noise was now in front of us to the side, and the "view" was to a huge empty sandy area (recreation?) where some construction trucks were parked. We went back already irritated, and were given yet another available suite, this time 3rd floor, but the desk personel was visibly annoyed by now. The room had a view to the pool which would be fine - the only problem was - the pool is under construction... And by this I mean heavy rebuilding - hordes of workers with hammers knocking out old tiles, jack hammers drilling constantly, equipment moving constantly, and the heavy dust.
We took that room, and stayed there one night...
The noise is going on until 9PM, there is nowhere to run away from it unless to the beach or town (which we did, both). The two remaining open pools are ice COLD, we saw some guests really trying hard to brave the cold but they gave up after a moment. There is absolutely nothing else there - literally everything is under construction.
Sleeping was a challenge too, (and we were exausted from the long trip) since the sounds from all adjacent rooms are so clear, we were forced to listen to whole conversations, and much more... Luckily, the AC unit is very noisy - this way we could divert our sons attention from annoying, nasty lovemaking sounds coming from behind just about every single wall.
Morning drilling started promptly at 8:30AM. It took us half a day to get the hotel changed - the Expedia representative at Finisterra (Kersten Sebastian) is a shame for the company. He told us (among other nonsense) that the 800 number does not exist in Mexico...He also refused to assist us in any way. The reception staff was even worse - they had a blast while we were complaining. Especially Elisabeth who was visibly making fun of us (we do not speak Spanish). I lost it when we were checking out, and I feel very angry at myself that I let them get me to such point.
They already had managed to ruin the first and part of the second day of our short vacation.
DO NOT BOOK FINISTERRA!! DO NOT LET THEM RUIN YOUR TRIP!!

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are sorry you did not have a good time.

Certainly we are going under major renovations and unfortunately we had some delays. Aside from the fact that right after spring break one of the pipes from our first pool broke so we opted to take advantage of an unforeseen scenario and made cleaning and maintenance repairs.

As you well state, we do have 3 shifts of workers trying to finalize the remodeling and conversion to the new Sandos Finisterra.
We have monitored our Palapa pool that has heated water to offset the temperature in pool three. Also we feature 6 outdoor Jacuzzis for our guest’s enjoyment. It is unfortunate that it was not noticable for your family.

We hope that the next time you visit Los Cabos you stop by in order to see all the great things and features that we have added, including our new Sanditos Kids area.

As you can read form other guests, their experience considering the price value, and renovations taking place, felt that we are a good option for a Cabo vacation.

Best regards and hope you return to Cabo soon.

I stayed at the Hotel Finisterra from April 4th to April 11th, 2013. Two of us stayed in a large room with a view of the Pacific. We were in room 230 and it actually had a wifi signal there which was reasonably good on the balcony. This was a surprise as we were told that we needed to be in the lobby for wifi. Our room was large with two double beds and a small sitting area. The bathtub-toilet area was rather dark and dated but clean. There was some construction happening around the pool as well as next door but it was not noisy in the evening. We didn't spend a whole lot of time in the hotel room so this noise was not bothersome. This hotel is in an excellent location and it's just a short walking distance from the marina, lover's beach, and the trailhead up to Mt. Solmar, the hill with the cross at the top. The beach, Playa del Solmar is almost deserted. When walking along the beach towards Lands End it's actually possible to get to Divorce Beach if you don't mind climbing over some boulders. The staff were helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that when requesting where to see a doctor we were referred to a private CLEARLY FOR PROFIT medical facility called CLINICA MEDICA rather than to a public hospital where a 18 hour overnight stay cost $6000. Also when ordering a taxi to take us back to the airport we had to pay the hotel in advance instead of paying the taxi driver as I'm used to doing not giving us the option to negotiate the price. I would definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want wifi in your room ask to stay in room 230.

The room was beautiful and big with a separate sitting area and newly upgraded with soft beds. We had a beautiful ocean/pool view. The food was outstanding, exceptional for all inclusive. There were two restaurants open; one down by the pool and up on the hill - Blue Marlin. We ate off the menu lunch and dinner which included two lobster tails, steak, shrimp, sea bass, ceviche and mexican food. Breakfast was a buffet with cook to order eggs. Sandos is aiming for May 1st to be officially all inclusive for everyone. They are still building the buffet restaurant. The Blue Marlin will remain as a 5 star restaurant. Jensen gave great service at the Blue Marlin, and Norma at pool side gave constant service. Everyone was friendly. Front desk helpful. We were not bothered by time-share people.

I would have rated this as excellent except for the construction noise. Mostly didn't bother during the day by the pool area as the construction work was on the other side of the hotel rooms, until next to the last day when jackhammering around the top level pool. That was about done on our checkout day.

Room Tip: We were in 203 with window open we could hear the air conditioning at neighboring hotel, but could s...
