This hotel exceeded our expectations for views, spacious rooms and an interesting property layout. We enjoyed the walk across the bridge to the Whale Watcher Bar, beyond the waterfall and the fabulous views of the marina. We arrived late and were annoyed that our request for a room on a high floor in the Palapa Beach Club turned out to be on the 3rd floor, but the desk attendant was very polite in telling us they would try to move us the next a.m. BUT we were very pleased with our pool/ocean/beach view and our spacious tiled deck, so we opted to stay where we were. ALL of the Palapa Beach Club views are supposed to have a good view of the ocean/beach and I think that is probably true. Marina views would also be okay. Some of the photos on this hotel website really SUCK and do not do the hotel justice! Yes, (as per some of the Trip Advisor reviews that we read), parts of the hotel are a little tired, but the rooms are exactly what the photos show...ceramic tiled, spacious and clean. The pool deck lounges are the only thing we thought DESPERATELY needed attention, as the fabric was quite worn and the pool towel 'gestapo' would only allow you ONE pool towel at a time, so it was difficult to cover up the unsightly and worn lounges. The Spring Breakers were quite well behaved and mostly congregated at the pools closest to the beach, so we enjoyed our 2 for 1 drinks at the pool every afternoon. We loved the Whale Watcher Bar and ate appetizers there a couple times...my husband thought the men's restroom was the coolest because one entire inside wall was the stone mountain! We used CABO TRANSFERS for our airport transportation (recommended by the hotel) and were very satisfied. You can call an 800 number and speak to them and if you don't want to use paypal, you can wait until you arrive and pay them cash. I was a little concerned they may not show up to retreive us from the hotel after we paid cash up front, but they arrived right on time for our departure. We took the TROPICAT catamaran sunset cruise one night. They serve unlimited drinks (even frozen White Russians!) and heavy appetizers, but it is NOT a BOOZE CRUISE, so we were very happy with our experience. We also enjoyed taking the water taxi (about $3 per person) to Medano Beach for breakfast at The Office, which was fun. Your table is outdoors in the sand with lots of umbrella cover and the food was good, with great service and reasonably priced ($8). The beach vendors are not allowed into the restaurant area, so you get a little repreive from the constant requests for purchases. PAY ATTENTION to all of the reviewers and AVOID the time share agents...the 90 minute promise is a fallacy and you will be there for AT LEAST 3 hours! The time share hawkers in the airport were very deceiving and one guy kept standing in front of us telling us he was the airport manager and he had to see our transportation voucher over at his desk. We fell for that...even though our transportation company warned us about it and we finally caught on and escaped! Hotel Finisterra exceeded our expectations...it is not a 5 star hotel, but we were very happy with their value and anytime we had a housekeeping need, it was dealt with immediately. We loved the quaint short walk among cobblestones (sorta) up the hill to the hotel...it was very private and relatively quiet. When we wanted action, we walked to the marina boardwalk or downtown. Adios!

Room Tip: Request a high floor in the Palapa Beach Club for great views and more quiet...nothing lower than floor 3 unless you want to walk right out of your room to the pool.

We booked at this hotel through a deal I bought on Urban Dealight. It was a great deal that my husband and I couldn't pass up. However after reading reviews we heard there may be some timeshare talk we had to attend. There was nothing about that in the deal I bought. When we checked into the hotel, everything went smooth until they stopped at a desk where we started getting signed up for the timeshare talk. We said NO, that we didn't want to go, and didn't want the free tickets to a sunset dinner cruise. The lady was very rude and said that's why I got such a good deal. I informed her there was nothing in the terms of my deal that said I had to go...so we walked away. She said "well, I'll have to look into that." We avoided that desk as much as possible the rest of our trip.

Besides that...the hotel was very clean, the pool was nice, and staff was nice as well. The room was large and had a nice balcony. The only downfall was the tile floor that made all movement of furniture echo really loudly. So, don't bother taking a nap during the day because that's all you'll hear.

Also, we stayed in room 406 and outside our room...on the ground floor was an air conditioner that was REALLY loud and echoed up to our room. We typically travel with a noise machine, but didn't need it since that was so loud.

Other reviews said the pool wasn't heated, but I didn't find that to be a problem. We got in and out a few times and even stayed in for a while to watch a basketball game! I found it to be the perfect temp!

Food from the pool area was great! The fresh guacamole was AMAZING! And the 2X1 happy hour was nice as well!

We walked the beach and all the way over to Lovers Beach, but that was a LONG walk...so be prepared! You'll even have to climb over some rocks / small mountain!

The location of the hotel was AWESOME! We were able to quickly walk to the marina and did that every day. It was about a 12 minute walk into the middle of the marina. There were many good restaurants that we ate at...our favorite was the Baja Cantina.

I would definitely go back :)

Room Tip: Higher room for less A/C noise or maybe on the side opposite the hotel restaurant.

Just returned from a week vacation at Hotel Finisterra. We had a faboulous time. Beautiful views and wonderful scenery. But...Watch out for the employees wanting you to take a 1.5 hour tour of their new hotel being built. It's a trap to get you to buy a timeshare and the people there are sharks! Look out for Djion (if that's his real name, he is an american originally from Washington State). 5 hours later, we had to get angry and run to get away. The only way we could get out is through a side door out to an alley!!! BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!! It's a shame they make you believe one thing and it turns out to be an wasted day of your vacation. It not worth what you receive for it.

Every year we hike up to Finsterra's Whale Watcher bar late in the afternoon, and every year we see whales (Feb/Mar). You must be in shape to walk up; it is a climb! But the view of the ocean is spectacular from that height. Afternoon drinks along the railing are fun. Dinner after dark is great as well.

Having stayed here for the first time in 2012, I was awestruck by the jaw dropping views this place offers. Nestles into the cliffside overlooking the Marina on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, the views leave little to the imagination. You feel at peace and extremely tranquil.
The food was amazing!!! THe bistro overlooks the dolphin vicinity and you get live shows around lunch time. They also have 2 for 1s on drinks and beer. The tacos are awesome.
The only negative I found was i got torn up by the bed bugs on the last day. Be very careful!!!!
They did try to trick me into saying i bought a bottled water when they only had one bottle of water in the room when i checked in.
The beds were tough to sleep in. Go purchase some Soma at the local prescription joint and your sleep will be pretty deep.

Room Tip: Ocean View on floors 5 or higher
