My family and I just got back from a one week vacation @ The Ridge, Playa Grande Resort. We paid to upgrade to the 2 bedroom Penthouse suite since there were so many of us. The space in the suite was great. The beds were so comfortable!! I definitely have to give them credit on that! There was plenty of room for all of us to hang out but with closer inspection, the furniture was stained and some of the glasses chipped. The housekeeping was one day great and the next half done. The furniture was all moved around and never put back into its place.
The resort itself only had half of their restaurants up and running which made us really happy we didn't go for the all inclusive. We did eat a the resort a few times during our stay and while most of the food was okay, the one night we decided to do their theme Asian night we all got sick the next day. The service was sooooo slow by the pool and the theme night. And considering we went during what was their slow season you would think that the service would have been way faster.
We were there during a crazy rain storm which lasted for two days. We stayed in the resort for those days and some of us decided to to spa days. The massage and facial we had were fantastic and I highly recommend anyone to get it done. The only down part of the spa day was that the steam room wasn't working and none of the showers were hot (barely even warm). The outdoor pool at the spa was closed due to the rain which was totally understandable.
Due to the rain, many parts of the resort started to leak including our bathroom. Any clothes I had sitting along the edge of the tub were completely drenched. That really sucked because we only brought a limited amount of clothes.
The majority of the staff there was very nice.
The one major disappointment I had with this resort was that they charged me to "rent" a crib and a high chair. I have NEVER in my entire time of being a mom had to pay for either of these. They weren't cheap either. The crib was an additional $10/day and the high chair $5/day. Seriously disappointed with that. We had stayed at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in January and they never charged us a dime for anything. Playa Grande charged for every last little thing. They even asked for a $15 deposit per towel card. PBSB never asked for that.
We spoke to management and they gave us a small refund of our WiFi and gym use (less than $90). Regardless I don't think we will be coming back to this resort for a long time, or at least until our kids have grown up. Too many extra charges!
