Sunset is a beautiful resort! The staff is especially friendly and provided everything we needed. Kudos to Luis for making it even extra special by ensuring our accomodation requests were completed. We had a wonderful stay (again) and can't wait to come back.
Thanks all!
Marie

We just returned from a week at Sunset Beach (4 -10 Nov) and we enjoyed it very much. Previously we had enjoyed staying at Pacifica, but in the end we enjoyed Sunset Beach more. I was a little nervous on the way in due to the mixed reviews here on Tripdavisor, though the more recent reviews do seem better. Check-in was smooth and quick, with a couple of up-sell offers, and once these were declined they were not mentioned again. After leaving the check-in desk we were approached and asked to attend a time-share sales breakfast, which we also declined. That was the end of time share pitches with the exception of one other quick stop by a salesperson at our breakfast table the next day.

We were given a room in Building 40 which we thought was an ideal spot. The building is one level up from the beach, has a beautliful (uncrowded) pool right outside the door and is a very easy walk to any place else on the resort. The room was clean, well maintained and the maid service was excellent. So was the drink/food service at the pool.

All of the servers we dealt with, either at the pool or in the dining rooms/bars, were very friendly, courteous and responded quicky to our requests. There were a couple of times when we needed to remind them to bring something, but that wasn't a big deal to me and is understandable considering the demands on them by some other customers. Their internationally rated restaurant, La Frida, was excellent and was one of the more memorable meals I've had, anywhere in the world. There is a wide selection of seafood and meat entrees as well as some very interesting Mexican style appetizers. And they make an excellent martini! Service here was also very good and we never felt any pressure or rush to free up the table.

I've seen a number of complaints about the carts, but I can't speak to it. We used the carts exactly twice, on check-in and check-out. We decided to take the opportunity to easily walk to and from meals at the resort as an enforced exercise program...its not very difficult and made me feel less gulity about over enjoying the food and drinks.

Overall, I woud highly recommend the resort. There is a good on-site dining selection. the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, the staff was friendly, courteous and helpful and the value for money is very good. In comparison, the Pacifica is a beautlful hotel and has some very good features, but we found Sunset Beach more complete and less restrictive on options. Pacifica is a very small hotel with one restaurant and bar and at times was actually too quiet. We'll be back to Sunset Beach to enjoy the range of options, the larger rooms and the great staff.

Relaxation and fishing at the top of the list for this adventure. The resort is definitly Five Star, especially when coupled with their three sister properties. Choice of a half dozen pools on property.

Recommend Pisces charter fishing boats. Great equipment, knowledgeable captains and helpful mates, reasonable rates includes everything even a packed lunch of your choice and drinks.

We had six couples on this adventure.

Room Tip: All rooms have an ocean view.

I have second, third, and fourth guessed myself for purchasing this time share 3 years ago. I recently returned from 2 magical weeks there and I was so grateful. It WAS a good decision. It is a wonderful resort and the service, attitudes, location, and pools are fabulous. I have recently retired and this is a place I can see going to as my body ages but my spirit doesn;t. The golf carts make getting around easy and beautiful views from each room is a gift. I still love being outside in the warmth reading a good book...and the fact that there are lots of shady patios and umbrellas at the pools makes avoiding the sun easy. The only compliant (question?) I have about the rooms is "with larger floor plans, why are there 2 beds in the same room yet 2 very large bathrooms? It seems that there is enough space that it could have been designed better. However, all in all I am thrilled to be returning again next year.

Room Tip: Each room location has something different to offer. We were right on the beach which was an easy wa...

On a previous trip (2011) I could not find anything good to say about this resort. However this year it was like visiting a different universe, The employees were very courteous and helpful, grounds and restaurants very good and overall a nice experience. I don't know if there are new managers but a very different approach and atmosphere was evident.

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are very nice. All have excellent views.

Everything is very clean and just plain beautiful. From the lobby to the pools areas to the grounds. Rooms are spacious and all have good view and awesome patio. Restaurants are OK. Not bad but nothing special. Best food honestly was at the pool bars unless that was the tequila talking! Sky pool at sunset is one the most memorable places I have ever been. Golf carts are fun. Wait can long (5-10 minutes) sometimes if you hit it wrong but nowhere near as big of an issue as I heard could be. Convenient shuttles to Blanco every half hour or so.

Room Tip: Look at the resort map and choose wisely. If you want to walk back and forth to a pool pick a room c...

I have very mixed feelings about this resort.
It is our second time here and I have to say
that we are disapointed. Last visit here was April 2010 and at that time service and food quality was much better. The resort is beautiful and the views are breathtaking however for a resort that has recieved top awards from the two top travel magazines I think they could step it up a bit. Food is very inconsistent. If you had something you loved one day it will not be the same the next day.
Ordered pancakes today for breakfast and it took about 20 minutes to get butter and syrup for them by that time they were cold.
Because of the riptide beach they only allow about 10-12 people in Cabanas on the beach. It would be nice if they could accommodate a few more people on the beach I don't want to go in the water but it would be nice to be able to sit down there after all that's why you come to a beach destination. The timeshare people bother you at meals to sign up for the presentation
So we went just so they would leave us alone for the rest of the week. Difficult to get chairs at the pools if you are not there early.
Wifi 16.00 a day and I think about 70.00 usd. for the week. Ridiculous since we can get a month for 40.00 at home. The restroom for the pool in building 40 is in bad shape 2 stalls and one is missing the toilet seat the other when you flush you fear the pipes are going to come through the wall.
I really wish my review was better since this place is really in a beautiful location.
