“Great check off the bucket list!”
Reviewed November 26, 2011

Wow, were we impressed! Reading reviews, one is always a little stressed whether they picked a good resort for a week vacation. Well, we picked a great resort! We started the trip off getting private transportation from Cielito Lindo and it was so worth it! Adrian was waiting for us right outside the airport (yes, walk past all the crazies after you get through security...they are loud and ready to pounce...they even told us we were going the wrong way) and as we paid a little extra for, took us to Mega to pick up water and groceries. He even went in with us to help show us where things were! When we pulled up to our beautiful resort, we were so happy. The valet guys took our luggage/groceries and showed up at our room half and hour later. It was so easy! Check-in was quick and we got a studio room towards the top of the resort, and lucked out being close to the skypool. Maid service was incredible and we felt to happy to come "home" everyday and find a nice, clean room.

We are a 36/43 year old couple, and loved walking the hills instead of taking golf carts. We only took them the first and last day. Otherwise, we walked up and down and enjoyed seeing all the different parts of this huge resort. You just walk single file whenever a golf cart is coming and going. We did 4 of the pools and loved the skypool the best. The view of the Pacific Ocean is incredible from up there. The bar staff is very friendly. Everyday in all pools from 4pm to 5pm was happy hour which meant 2 for 1 (big drinks!). That was fun! Decent food at the pool bars, and we did enjoy the Bistro. La Nao was okay, and we didn't try La Frida. We ate in our room most nights, courtesy of our trip to Mega and the two burners we had on our stove and the decent sized fridge. Not that we had to, but we boiled our water everyday and re-used our plastic bottles.

We did to the timeshare presentation and we recommend it as it shows you the property (which is gorgeous) and we got $200 towards the restaurants, which we used toward the champagne/Sunday brunch at La Nao and then one dinner towards the Bistro. And do be patient, they are a bit slow on service. But knowing that keeps the patient level high.

Enjoyed the free shuttle ride to the Rose. Easy to get tickets at the concierge. Get your tickets early as everyday we passed, there was always a big line of people ready to go to the Rose when they start the trips around 10am. The waves of the ocean near the Rose are fun and big! We ate at the Sandbar, a little ways from the Rose, and it was fabulous. The trip to the Rose is definitely worth going for a day or 2. But overall, even if we couldn't swim in our own ocean, we preferred the peace and quiet of the Pacific side (no cruise ships crowding the views) and loved watching the sun set into the Pacific Ocean every night.

We do recommend Pez y Gato for your snorkeling/cruise trip (took a taxi at 9am, spent $16). Great crew that want you to have a fun time and they have awesome salsa. We took a Glass Bottom Boat ride to Los Arcos and Lovers Beach and spent two hours there. Awesome! And again, we recommend Cielito Lindo for your private transportation needs. Adrian picked us up on-time on our last day, safely delivered us to the airport and ended our trip with a smile. We did not need a car for the week and were happy we used Cielito Lindo. Finally, we fully recommend the Sunset Beach. We would return in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: All rooms had an ocean view. Can't go wrong!

PB SB is a great property with friendly staff, beautiful grounds and it is hard not to like Cabo. This is our fifth time at SB and were disappointed in how the management is cutting back on little things. They definitely had fewer drivers and carts available to shuttle the guests around the resort. Average waits used to be around 5 minutes. I had lots of 15 minutes+ waits.

We have always enjoyed the excellence of LaFrieda and were disappointed with their service..food is still great but I think you can get better service at either LaNao or Bistro.
The food choices at the deli have been cut back as well. The choices at the deli counter are almost zip. They built a new building to house a new market but are not moving into it. They say they will eventually move the little market to the new space (adjacent to building 25). Instead of providing more food choices in a market, they are offering an all-inclusive food option. That should work for a lot of people at $79 per person per day. That usually makes you drink a lot but that's part of Mexico.

We're owners at MonteChristo and usually can count on upgrades, which eventually did indeed happen. Surprised at their $11.00/day wireless cost. They used to offer free ethernet connection in certain rooms. They really need to reduce this to a nominal charge or drop it. So you just trudge down to LaNao for the free wifi.

They've also reduced the shuttle buses to Rose/Blanco. If you want the first bus of the day at 10am, you better sign up the day before. You can reserve 24 hrs in advance.
It just seems in the past few years management is reducing the level of excellence at this resort, all the while maintenance fees just keep going up.

The staff is always so friendly and willing to help. If you get a chance, go over and look at the new houses they are building along the ocean at the Viceroy/Governors properties. Oooohlala. I hope they work on the golf course as vigorously as they are building these properties.

We'll be back but hope the management listens to the comments on TA and other sources and ups the ante a bit.

Room Tip: $20 in an envelop to the check in clerk will take you a long way...Buildings 21-24 have some A/C and...

Just spent a week at your resort, I am an owner of 2 timeshares. My wallet was stolen at LAX prior to boarding my flight to Cabo. Arturo at the front desk could not have been more helpful. He dealt with my ex-husband prior to my arrival to ensure I had his credit card. I had to deal with him on a couple of occasions and he is an absolute delight, so professional, so helpful and always with a big smile on his face, wondering what more he can do!! Made our stay even that much better!!

I was skeptical from the reviews I read about this hotel. I was nervous about the hotel being faraway from the marina and the Golf Carts that were complaints about in the reviews.

When we arrived the hotel exceeded our expectation in every ways. We checked in (5 mins wait) and told them it was our 10th anniversary so he upgraded us to a one bedroom suit instead of studio. The room was BIG and comfortable, way too big for 2 of us. It has nice big patio w/ocean view- every rooms there pretty much have ocean view. Beautiful resort, well kept, very clean. The bed was comfortable for us. We slept like a baby.

My husband loves the Golf Cart that took us every where in the resort. We only have to wait once for about 5 mins, because my husband refused to call for a cart from our room and it was dinner time so it was understandable. A lot of people called the Golf Cart from their rooms so the Golf cart usually there & wait for them. Normally once we got down there usually a Golf Cart there dropping people off. We do tip the driver each time we took the golf cart but you can also tip for the service at the end when you check out.

The hotel is about 10 mins drive from main marina in Cabo San Lucas or take 30mins Hotel Free Shuttle to their other hotel-Pueblo Bonito Rose-in Médano beach (swimmable beach). The shuttle leaves every hour so there'll always be one for you to take as long as you are not in a hurry. Taxi cost about 10-12 per trip to marina. The location isn't a problem for us even though I was worried about it since my husband likes to be where all the things are. However this trip he was content and very happy with the hotel choice we chose.

I can see that for a 20s young and wanna party crowd this will not be the place for them!

Restaurants at the hotel are good we ate at the Bistro which about the same price as eating at marina or any restaurants in downtown Cabo. We always spend about $60 for 2 w/1 appetizer, main course and 2 drinks. It's quite expensive there in Cabo-No Mexican prices. We also had breakfast Buffet w/Champagne & Dinner Buffet at Lanai in the hotel. It was good not a lot of selection on the main course itself but tons of Desserts- we spend about $100 before tips.
Swimming pools are great especially Skypool-very beautiful.

Must do -
-Cabo Adventure -Sea Adventure Snorkeling, Kayaking, tour of the Arch all in one for $45 per person through the hotel is really worth it for 1st time experience. Great for people who want to try everything in one trip :). Tons of fish to see w/beautiful clear water. Each activity takes about 30 mins so if you want to Kayak for an hour this will not be the one for you.
-Rancho Carisuva ATV was fun, too well worth $36/person -through hotel (+insurance $15+$5 park fee @ the site- we thought it was a bit tricky for not telling you these extra $ upfront) But at the end it was worth it. We left hotel at 3pm 30 mins drive to the site 3 hours tour w/beautiful beaches, cool cactus trails, Romantic sunset on the ATV. Back to the hotel 7pm.
-Lover Beach is a must - Beautiful clear water

Don't worry about the time share!-if you want the hotel food/drink coupon $100/person then go ahead & join their Breakfast morning (it was delicious, too) and spend 4 hours with them trying to sell you something. All you have to do at the end just tell them you don't have money to spend if you don't want it. If you don't think it's worth your time then just tell everyone you come across that you already did it and you already, they'll leave you alone. Trust me, that what we said and just a quick thank you after that. It wasn't a bother to us at all, since all we said was yes. we did it. yes. we had appointment. That was that. No arguing no bugging no trying to sell you anything else!

Book the tour through the hotel you will save 40% - Cabo Adventure: Sea & snorkel @ site $75 we paid $45, ATV w/ Carisuva - $90 @site we paid $56 (insurance & park fee included) through the hotel.

Taxi wasn't too bad $10-12/trip to marina, Free hotel shuttle every hour 10am-10pm to Rose' Medano beach - where ME, Villa Del Arco at. & all the beach vendors, young party crowds hang out.

Hotel has its own small Deli & small grocery store - reasonable price compare to everywhere else in Cabo.

Only Thing This Hotel could improve is to have more staffs work at the front Desk esp. during the check out time in the morning! We waited about 15 mins at least with 5 ppl behinds us.

**One thing to remember** Nope this place is not real Mexico -it's a Tourist Attraction- everything is about same price as US or a bit more. It's Safe & NO NEED to EXCHANGE your Money. If you want to exchange anyway DO NOT EXCHANGE IT AT AIRPORT - we found that out in a hard way! The rate @ airport was $1- 11.21 Pesos - @ Hotel $1-12.5 Pesos, @ downtown Cabo about 13-13.50 Pesos. You can pay with US $ anywhere they'll charge you @ 12.5Pesos & will give you change back in Pesos. We wish we could have known that!

Hotel is located about 10 mins drive to downtown Cabo & Medano beach. The water is clear & warm. Bistro @ hotel is pretty much same price as most of the restaurants on the marina & downtown where you know for sure you won't get sick after the meal.
Squid Roe was fun, even slow sunday night the waiters/waitress still entertained us and kept the night going. It was fun for a slow night the restaurant was half full.

Room Tip: Every room here has Ocean View. If you are on your honeymoon or anniversary let them know, they'...

We stayed a week. After a wheeler, dealer introduction at the airport when trying to arrange a taxi ride that cost $35 one way and fast talking sales people from other resorts trying to get you signed up and promising you alot of free stuff implying they were from the taxi company when in fact they are paid commission on every one the bring into resort. The staff at the time share never knew answers to questions, just told you whatever Couldn't even get directions to the room right, had to rely on another guest there to get to our room. the golf carts travel at high speeds. The hotel charges you a dollar a day for the owners favorite charity, their staff! It is bad enough they dont get paid a decent wage, but to expect the staff to provide monies for their health benefits is poor, and unless you tell them not to, you pay. You are not notified of this practice so good thing we noticed. women in the next to us partied till 2 am and smoked so didn't get to hear much of the ocean. not great sleep either.

Room Tip: tell them not in the smoking on the terrace building!

Let me start by saying that we enjoyed our stay at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort and Spa. There are a few important points about the resort that need pointing out. The resort is located on the Pacific side of Cabo (no swimming in the ocean; never!) but who cares when you have such a picturesque view of the ocean and the sound of crashing waves. Incredible! Besides you have access to 5 pools which all have views of the ocean including the sky pool at the very top of the resort, what a view!
We also need to address the fact that the resort is located on a hillside or should we say cliffside. There are several layers to the resort starting with the beach at the low point all the way up to the sky pool which is at the high point of the resort. Several long winding paths make there way from one section of the resort to the other. We stayed in building 20 which was one of the larger sections of the resort below the sky pool to the right hand side (6th floor). The view was incredible as we not only had the entire view of the resort but also 180 degrees of ocean view. It was a great spot to get up early mornning drink some coffee and lookout for whales as they made their way up the coast (late November thru Early February). For those of you who are not physically fit, walking is not an option! The path down is easy but the walk up is treacherous for someone who is not in shape. Don't worry! There are literally a few dozen carts going up and down to pick up guest to take them to their destination of choice, pools, restaurants, main lobby etc. I actually enjoyed the steep windy paths as they provided a great exercise path every morning. I would generally wake up every morning and take the stairs, yes stairs from the 6th floor to the bottom of my building and follow the path all the way down to the beach area and then proceed to walk up the path up to my building at the top of the resort and back to my room. Loved it!!! There was also a great beach area that provided plenty of running space for those who preferred to jog or walk the coast line.
The rooms were well designed and spacious. We had a king size bed with a separate tub and shower big enough for two people to shower together. Wife and I enjoyed the showers! We had my 15 year old daughter with us and she slept in the sofa sleeper (not the greatest) but it worked, along with a separate complete bathroom (well worth it). We enjoyed the spacious balcony with access from the living room or bedroom with excellent views. Balcony had some great comfortable and sturdy patio furniture to sit or simply relax.
We ate once at the Bistro and the food was good and not too expensive. We ate quite a bit outside the resort so I couldn't tell you what the other restaurants provided. They do have happy hour at the pools from 3 to 4 on a buy one get one free so keep that in mind. The service at the resort is great, from the cart service to bartenders, waiters and housekeeping. All service done with a smile. There is no nightly entertainment at the resort so if you are looking for entertainment you will need to go into town. You can either take a taxi or shuttle bus to the Rose or Blanco resort if you want to avoid paying for a taxi. We rented a car for the week at the rate of $260 for the week which included 90% insurance coverage.
This brings me to my last point. We accepted a timeshare offer at the rental car place for $200 off our rental and 50% of every activity we signed up for. $18 for the sunset cruise which included dinner and open bar. $18 for the snorkeling trip which included lunch (tuna sandwiches and chips) and open bar. $35 for ATV excursion which included a very decent lunch and 2 hr trip. $50 for tandom parasailing (two people) and $76 for dolphin adventure which provided for personalized dolphin experience.

Room Tip: Try to choose the upper stories within your designated building to improve your views of ocean and o...

I stayed one week and had a blast. The food is excellent, especially at LaFrida. The staff is warm and helpful. Two minor issues, common to many resorts: keys that easily demagnatize, leaving one stranded outside the door, and poor wireless service that is expensive. Also, the wireless is charged by device, so you can't use different devices at different times. OK, enough of the two minor gripes. The rooms are lovely, spotlessly clean, and have great views of the ocean. There are numerous pools to choose from, some busy, some laid back. They have a free shuttle to their sister property closer into town, which is very useful, if you wish to peruse the restaurants and shops. This resort always has a special place in my heart, because it has a magic to it, a combination of many little things that make it truly relaxing. It primarily has to do with how well-trained the staff is, beautifully maintained grounds, an old Mexico look to the architecture and decor, and the stunning views.
