We started out a bit slow as we got in the van of the wrong operation. Totally our fault! The different tour ops. often meet guests at Mega, a large supermarket and obvious landmark. We got into the wrong van because our name is Roberts and so was another person. Double check the full name before going along. Once we got in the right vehicle, we we're on our way to la Paz. Prepare yourself for a longish drive, 2 hours, before arriving at your destination. Our guide was with us the whole time, a local that lives in San Jose cabo but grew up in la Paz. He was great. Once we checked flipper and wet suit sizes, we we're off to the boat directly across the street from their office. For some reason we expected a large boat with other guests on our trip but it was just us, family of 8, our guide and the boat captain. The boat felt small but we learned that all are small on purpose so as not to disturb the whale sharks and so we can get in and out of the water quickly and quietly.it did not take more that 30 minutes before we saw our first whale shark. Groups of no more than 6 for 15 minutes at a time can get in the water with each shark. They were juveniles about 16 ft long. Amazing! You swim right next to them! When they are feeding, they hang out in one spot where you can swim all around them. We were only 1-2 ft away. It was a truly incredible experience. In all, we we're out and in the water 6 at a time for about 2 hours. Our guide took underwater footage on his little camera which he shared with us for free. Afterwards, we had a lovely, traditional Mexican lunch that was included in our trip. Then drive home.
I would highly recommend this trip. All levels of swimming/snorkeling/diving experience we in our group and it was very easy snorkeling because the sharks are feeding. Enjoy!
