This trip was the highlight of our vacation. The tourist season was winding down when we went and it turned out that my husband and I were the only two to sign up for that day. Sunrider could've cancelled, but instead, we were treated to what amounted to a private tour. We were picked up at our hotel (Solmar) by our exceptional guide and driver, Alberto. Alberto was fun, knowledgeable, courteous, and a joy to be with all day. Our first stop was in Todos Santos where we heard about its history and legends. Then it was off to the Hotel California where we took a little tour of the property, and had a delicious breakfast. We continued on our way to LaPaz with narration about the area, the economy, while we enjoyed watching the countryside pass by our window in our very comfortable ride.
When we reached LaPaz, we went directly to the new office where we changed into swimsuits, picked up wetsuits and snorkel gear and headed for our adventure on the new "Funrider". This boat included a canopy for protection, a "head", freshwater shower, and Sergio the guide and Sergio the captain. Both were fabulous at their jobs. We found a whale shark immediately and got into the water (very easy, just slid off the back deck, just as easy to climb in with steps). The main thrill, of course, was to swim with this gentle giant for as long and as many times as we wanted because we were the only two on the tour. Our whale shark was a marvel in size and gentleness and I swam eye to eye with him for as long as I could before tiring and heading back to the boat. We ended our tour by boating along the coast with narration of the area by Sergio the guide.
Alberto was at the office to meet us and we changed and left to go to our lunch. Alberto took us to "Bismark" and translated for us and helped us choose a delicious lunch. We first had an appetizer of fresh fish that had a light fried crust (so flaky and fresh they almost melted in your mouth). Then Alberto helped us choose the fish tacos which were served tostada style if you had been here in the US. What a fantastic choice, I'll never be able to order them again without thinking of the Bismark, nor do I think they'll ever be as good as the Bismark.
We headed home from this incredible adventure and Alberto stopped again at the Hotel California for us to pick up a couple of souvenirs. Again, not enough can be said about Alberto's attentiveness and concern for our time. We ended back at our hotel right on time (total trip from Cabo and back was 8 hours). Would we spend that kind of time again going to LaPaz-ABSOLUTELY. Would we recommend or use Sunrider tours again-POSITIVELY.
Sincerely, Pancho and Maria.
