“Great brunch/coffee shop”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Seeing as how the Casa Dorado where we stayed doesn't seem to have a coffee pot (in the room or otherwise) we wandered out to Bar Esquina often. Espresso drinks were great and a pastry selection was good for a quick bite. Sit down service was great - elegant seating in an open air room. The menu had a nice selection catering to the gringo palette like eggs benedict plus the expected mexican fare. The Chila-quile ( breakfast nachos) was a huge order. Prices were reasonable, under $10 each. Street noise was the only downside. I would consider this place for dinner too but didn't have a chance.

“What a gem....”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We stayed across the street at Casa Dorado, and I went across the street every morning for the yummy muffins to have with our coffee. I decided to make a reservation for dinner ( a must ) after looking at the menu. The service was attentive and helpful. The food was delicious. The tuna tartare was fresh and the sauce spicy and a great compliment to the tuna. My husband had the shrimp with lime risotto and I had the crab cake. Both were so good. The shrimp had a nice kick and the risotto was creamy. The remoulade with the crab cake was seasoned just right. We ordered dessert, the sticky pudding, which was so good. I wish they had let us know they give you a little tray of delicious chocolates.....really don't need to order dessert. They had a nice selection of wine, and we corked the 2nd bottle and brought it back to our room, as we didn't finish it.

They had a trio playing acoustic music and they were just right. Not too loud or obstrusive. really talented. The Saturday night fireworks were an added bonus!

We made a reservation to go back and sit at the bar and watch the chef cook. This place has great energy and I would recommend it highly!!! The open air with the latticed ceiling gives it a wonderful feel.

“Atmosphere but...”
Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

Great looking bar. Beautiful outdoor seating area. Wine list ok, but overpriced. Tina tartar...well, maybe it was an off night, but it should have den fresh on a Friday. Tastes like it had sat all day. I eat all kinds of sushi regularly and this was one of the worst I've had. Tried the shrimp risotto and beef/beet risotto dishes. Both oversalted. Couldn't believe how disappointed I was in the food, given the great, energetic atmosphere. Stick to a drink or two, and eat somewhere else.

This is right across from Casa Dorada, so A+ for convenience. The food was very good, you can also get pizza!

“Awesome atmosphere, people, food, and drinks.”

Loved this hip modern fresh bar. The drinks and atmosphere were awesome. It felt like being back in NY but with a Mexican twist.
