“1st vacation to Cabo San Lucas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

The vacation to Welks Resort was wonderful. The rooms included a kitchette, dining area, large bedroom and balcony. Granite was used throughout the rooms and every room had an ocean view. The two infinity pools and swim up bar were great. The staff planned fun events throughout the week (water arobics, drink mixing class, etc.). Overall, the facilities, staff and location were all 5-star level. Even though we didn't plan on it, we were so impressed with the resort we purchased a time share. We attended a 90 minute presentation and there was no pressure to purchase but we were eager to commit after spending a few days at the resort.

Room Tip: All rooms are very good - if you can afford it, the larger room has much more room and a much larger...

I am a Welk owner, so we were excited to go check this place out for our Honeymoon. We were lucky enough to get this property with my accommodation certificate offered by Interval International and we paid an extra $75 a DAY to upgrade to a bigger room. While I was on the phone, I let the lady know we were going for our honeymoon and she said "you already paid to upgrade your room, there is not much more we can do for you, but we will see what we can do". So I was expecting a really great room or at least some champagne and chocolate...We did get rose petals arranged on our bed, so that was cool. We arrived, it was small and tucked away in a little neighborhood of what we believed to be houses that people rented out, but beautiful. We checked in and given the speech about the activities and given 2 free beers each while we were checking in. The property/view was breathtaking and the pool even though it was small was gorgeous. Now we arrive to our room and it's nice, but outdated and a little worn looking. I found out later that they put us on the older side of the resort, which I was a little irritated considering we paid so much to upgrade. The size of the room and the bathtub was awesome, but the bed was super hard and the comforter did have some interesting stains on it (I never use those so it didn’t bother me too much). The couch was pretty uncomfortable and a little dirty. The dishwasher had a rotten smell coming from it all week, even though we ran it a couple of times. They give you a small trash can and because it's a timeshare, they only empty it once a week, so we had to put trash in bags and boxes till they picked it up. Our dvd player broke, but they brought us a new one right away, so that was fine. The channel options were kinda sad and most of them were in Spanish, but we made due. There were no screens on the windows or doors, which was a bad thing because you didn’t want to leave open them because of the mosquitos. Our power went out one night for 3 hours and we were dying from the heat.
Another drawback was there is only 1 restaurant and it had expensive and mediocre food. But we had the kitchen to cook so we paid for the taxi to Wal-Mart a couple of times, to save money. The pool bar was only open a few hours a day and the drinks were expensive and made very weak (the cups/pitchers were completely filled with ice to save them money). Also it was a little frustrating that they do not have a shuttle service yet, but they explained to us that the resort is still too small so they cannot find a company to do it yet. So anytime you want to go to town you have to take a taxi $15 each way or try to take the public bus (which was an old school bus, kinda scary). We were thankful that after we went to the timeshare presentation they offered us 2 excursions, so that was cool! We loved Fedra, she was always so helpful and polite. As far as service from the rest, they all were polite, but I didn't feel like they went above and beyond like they did with the others.
The private beach was pretty and there was a small area to do some snorkeling, so we loved that! The resort and pools were super clean!
It was a cool experience with awesome views, we are glad we did it, but we both left with a bad taste in our mouths and look forward to staying in our home Welk resort in San Diego. Sorry Sirena, but we both were not impressed.

Room Tip: Ask to stay on the new side, which is closest to the beach, not the pool.

Great resort. Small and friendly, the staff learned our names on the first day and used them the entire week. It was clean and well appointed, the equipment all worked, and even after the hurricane Paul they had everything cleaned up and back in ship shape the next day.

Often we get to a resort and have to accept that there will be some things that just don't work, or are dirty or in disrepair. Not here. We had NFL football, all three American TV networks, all the gym equipment worked and was sparkling clean, wifi was free and fast, the pools glistened, gardens were well tended with no bare spots, and on and on.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view of the cliffs and ocean. Higher rooms in newer west building see mo...

I read many reviews before selecting this property, and had very high expectations going in. I was not disappointed. We exited the taxi and were welcomed like old friends. Francisco helped us load everything and patiently waited while we oohed and awed. Antonio got us checked in and was able to get us rooms that were next to each other, and accomodated us with a smile. Before heading to our room, we stopped to chat with Gina at the concierge's desk. We told her what kind of activities we were interested in, and she set up everything for us. We did the "you want to buy a time-share" thing, but didn't have to pay for a fishing boat, or for our massages. Well worth sitting for 2 hours and listeneing to Collin talk about Cabo and what a great place it is. It was also nice that he didn't turn into an a-hole when we decided not to buy.
The massages took place in the cabana tent near the ocean. There is nothing like getting a rub down while listening to the waves crash against the rocks below. Anjelica has the most amazing hands, and I couldn't leave without going back one more time.
The tacos on Taco Tuesday were to die for! If you have the opportunity to be around for lunch that day, they are definitely worth the wait. We sat and watched while each slab of meat was cooked and chopped. If you like it hot, ask for the habanero salsa. It was superb! The Mexican Fiesta on Friday night was a blast. I went up to the bar earlier in the day, and was able to reserve the front table for our party, and a couple other couples that we had spent a fair amount of time with during the week.
The large infinity pool was down for a few days while we were there, but the small one was just fine. When the larger one was back up, Manny was able to get back to his water aerobics schedule, and it was so much fun! Jorge's margaritas were to die for, but watch out, they sneak up on you!
Snorkeling at the beach was fun, but I would definitely recommend swim shoes, as the rocks can cut you up pretty good. If you're a really good swimmer, like my husband, you can adventure out quite a ways and see some pretty amazing things. If you're not as confident, like me, there is plenty to see in the area where you can still stand up.
Guess I should mention the room, as it is definitely worth mentioning. We had a 1 bedroom suite and it was very spacious. The bed was super comfy and I just loved the extra little touches, such as the hand towels made into a swan. We had a great WiFi connection, so we were able to SKYPE with our daughter.
When it was time to leave, we took one last walk outside to take it all in, and ran into Jorge and Hugo. I gave them each a hug and almost cried. It was like leaving family. We will definitely be back.....
The only downfall was the price of taxis in the area, but definitely not the fault of the resort. Oh, I should also mention the restaurant that is next door. It's a little bit of a walk, but the food is to die for!

Room Tip: Our room was on the lower level by the pool, so the view wasn't as good as the rooms higher up...

What more could you want? Sirena Del Mar offers...

1.)Exceptional customer service where the staff know you by name and offer fun inside the resort as well as recommendations for the best places to go outside of the resort. Thanks Manny for the fun snorkeling/kayak experience! Sirena Del Mar is lucky to have you. Miss all of you already.

2.)Informative, professional time share presentations which are (unlike many others) enjoyable to attend and low pressure. They understand if you want to buy you will, if not then that is ok too.

3.)BEAUTIFUL view of the ocean and cliffs in the multiple infinity pools and a swim up bar. Large, fluffy, plentiful, deep colored purple towels make you feel like royalty when laying out with a pina colada in hand. Not to mention access to a semi-private beach a short walk away.

4.)Linen-drape enclosed open spa area where you can get a massage outside while feeling the breeze and listening to the waves crash against the rocks.

5.)Awesome, tastefully decorated, comfortable rooms.

6.)Numerous resort activities if you do not wish to go into town.

7.)Short drive from Wal-Mart and downtown... everything close by, but not as chaotic as being in the heart of downtown.

Thanks for such a fun trip, Sirena Del Mar!

Room Tip: Two types of 1 bedroom villas: A or B. A gives you more room, request this one if possible!

Picked this hotel due to its high rating on trip advisor and was not disappointed. Our room was a premier ocean room villa. Basically this is a full one bedroom apartment with a "hot tub"(the water was Luke warm. My only complaint about this hotel). This villa contained a 2 tvs, a nice sized sectional sofa bed in the living room, full kitchen equipped with all the necessities, a washer/drier and an amazing balcony with a view. For a couple this villa was very roomy and functional. Also, this villa provided everything to make a one week stay comfortable.

The amenities outside of the room were great. The pools, restaurant, gym and private beach were all superb. We only ate at the restaurant once because we wanted to explore. The food was very good. I wouldn't say it was expensive for lunch. The gym was fully equipped for a hotel gym. The private beach was certainly a surprise. The snorkeling on this beach was great. Saw much more fish then in the beach area around the arch.

We rented a car. Not sure this is a cheaper option then taking cabs. Our rental cost 42 for 7 days which we thought was an amazing deal until we arrived at the car rental place and realized how expensive Mexican insurance is. With basic insurance the rental cost about 250. Judging from the other posts, this is about how much you would spend taking cabs once a day for a week. Having said that, we enjoyed the flexibility of a rental.

I recently spent a week at Sirena Del Mar and had the most relaxing week. This small boutique hotel, only 66 suites, all oceanfront with balconies and all fully fitted for self catering if needed. The room decor is very classy and comfortable and the outside amenities are nicely maintained. The views are spectacular and all the resort employees are exceptional. The waiters, and pool staff, especially Carlos & Manny, were very attentive, friendly and courteous. They are very proud of their property and their service is a very high standard. If you want to go party for the night it is a short ten minute taxi ride, and the serenity and peacefulness of being away from the city and the tourists is what made it perfect for my vacation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are phenominal, we were on the south/west end so we had the sun til the very last minu...
