“Comfortable resort, great beach access”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2011

The resort is a bit dated in the decor in the lobby and hallways, but the rooms are newly remodeled. The pool areas were very comfortable, and very clean. We had a "mountain view or desert view" room and while the view of Sam's Club wasn't great, the sunset over the mountains was lovely. The smell some other reviews mentioned was noticeable, but was prevalent in other parts of Cabo too at night, and nothing to keep me from enjoying our balcony in the evening. It was possible to walk into the downtown from the hotel (prob. 25 minute walk) or fast to get a taxi. The pool area looks out on Playa Medano and has one of the only swimmable stretches of beach in Cabo--we went swimming every day we were there.

We booked through Expedia and so had requested a queen bed room and when we got there were only able to get two double beds. The concierge assigned to us on arrival tried to push a time share presentation for Villa del Arco on us, but we ignored her and didn't go. We had food and drink vouchers for the hotel bar along with vouchers for the spa, activities, and sunset cruise. The spa and food & drink vouchers were the only ones we found useful. The rest had so many exclusions that it was more hassle than it was worth.

The kitchenette was great. We went to Walmart the first night and got some basic supplies and ate breakfast in room and some lunches to save money. The maid even cleaned the kitchen some days even though the sign said they weren't responsible for cleaning it. Well supplied with all the necessities for a kitchen.

The Hotel was perfect, clean room , big and very confortable.
The personal was very kind , always ready to give a hand ,and made things easy.
We did not have all inclusive , we choose that , but the food in the different restaurants was fantastic , and with a good price.
Nice beach, a big variety of swimming pools.
We recomend the Hotel.

The renovations have kept the resort up-to-date, but with few improvements. The resort was spotless as was the beach. Even downtown Cabo was clean. On our one day fishing (not catching) trip we saw many workers cleaning the streets at 6AM. Villa del Palmar is a quiet resort with very good facilities. If you want first class dining, it is there but expensive. If you want each unit has a kitchen and the Walmart is a quick cab ride away. Insider's tip: buy your booze at Walmart, better selection and cheaper prices than at duty free. If coming from Canada and you like your Rye, buy thast in duty free before you leave Canada. There is little available in Cabo.

My husband and I usually stay at high end resorts, i.e. Auberge, Four Seasons, but since we were traveling with kids we were willing to sacrifice luxury for quantity. By quantity I mean "all inclusive". I was very hesitant (since we'd never stayed anywhere All Inclusive) to try it. However, it turned out to be very convenient and we actually enjoyed the ease of ordering food and drinks without any of the hassle of checking prices, etc.

The resort itself was much nicer than I expected, but my expectations were low. The property was really pretty, the staff very friendly and welcoming and our room was as we had reserved - Jr. Suite Oceanview. The suite part was a stretch since it was really a regular hotel room with a small kitchen. The view was spectacular, though!

The beds - which had been sold to us a 2 queens - were really full/double beds. They really are too small for two adults, and we are regular size. However, the beds and linens were VERY comfortable. There was quite formidable contingent of the "Roseanne Barr"-types, so I'm not sure how they fit in the smallish beds.

The only drawback we experienced was being right over the Tortugas restaurant where they hotel had a nightly show. It was really loud and the music started around 6:30. Luckily it was over by 9 or so, and then it was quiet.

The rooms were reasonably well appointed. The TV was on the smallish side, but had a decent amount of channels (english) to choose from. We didn't watch very much TV so it was just fine.

The bathroom was fine as well. It had a cute tiled tub which made it seem higher end than it was. There was plenty of hot water and plenty of towels - so that's all we really cared about. Also it was very clean.

The All Inclusive side of it was really easy and convenient. We ate at all of the restaurants and although the service varied by day/night and location, overall it was more than acceptable. The staff was always friendly and helpful, though some much more attentive than others. We never felt like we were getting worse service for being all inclusive. The food was actually really good at all of the restaurants. We really enjoyed the buffets each night at the Tortugas restaurants - they had some really nice and exotic selections. The seafood night had phenomenal sea bass offered on the BBQ. Yum!

The beach service was great! Waiters very attentive and always quick to bring our drinks and food. We always tipped one or two dollars each time - maybe that helped?

The only thing we didn't like about the resort was that there was always loud music playing in the pool area and there was always some kind of "activity". We are completely capable of entertaining ourselves and our kids had no interest in the "kids" activities. However, by staying mostly on the beach we avoided a lot of the "action" going on poolside. The kids LOVED the whale slide, that was a huge hit with them.

The beach was extremely convenient and a very short walk back to our room. It never felt like a trek to go back to get something we forgot or run something down.

I'm not so sure that *we* would stay here again, but I think that if someone doesn't mind the activities and music and "action" then it would be a great place. That just wasn't what our family was looking for. We definitely enjoyed ourselves, but could've done without a lot of the noise. Luckily it did get very quiet by 9 p.m. or so, and the balcony doors in the rooms did a good job of soundproofing the room.

We have been travelling to Cabo San Lucas for about 5 years now and every year we say we should go somewhere else but Villa del Palmar keeps pulling us back.
The entertainment staff...Ana, Ramon, Hugo and Luis (Pappichulo) are entertaining....most importantly can relate to everyone...my teenage son and my 8 year old daughter. Ana is very sweet and Ramon genuine.
The other staff, mainly the bellboys....Eli, Efrain, Dago.... I love getting out of the taxi from the airport and them welcoming us by saying "welcome home"..."did you bring your Carlie's Spanish homework this year?" or Cody, how is your broken arm from last year?" Customer service or truly remembering who we are makes the trip well worth it every year.
Gisele, being our concierge at the resort, is a dear again suggesting places to eat.
Bonnie in sales as well as Dave have been most helpful answering questions including Lidia in the UVC office.
Without these key people this place wouldn't be the same. Villa Del Palmar you have a great set of staff...treat them well.
The grounds are beautiful and the beach is clean. I also feel very very safe whether it be on the resort or in the town of Cabo itself.

I would suggest going to Villa Del Palmar to everyone and when you go give a big hug to Eli, Efrain, and Dago for me.

Stayed at the VDP Feb 12th-17th . Being our first time in Cabo we didn't know what to expect, but we we're very impressed with the area and property. The 3 pools were clean and had great views of the Sea of Cortez .The Pool bar had great service and the entire wait staff went out of their way to make our stay fun and enjoyable. Our room was very nice and clean, with good beds , kitchenetts, with fridge. We chose the AI plan which was nice because the prices for the food and drinks we're pretty high. I will say that the All-In resorts in Cabo differ from others in Mexico we've stayed at due too having to sign a bill everytime you order a drink or food and if you decide to have a drink from your room fridge they charge you even though you have the All Inclusive plan. Hotel was close to town and a $6 per couple water taxi ride to the Cabo marina which we used offten. Swimming in the Sea of Cortez was nice but not so much on the Pacific side, it's not safe due to the rip tides & undertow, 2 people drowned days before we arrived. Over all we had a great time at the VDP and enjoyed making new friends during our stay. We will be back next year.

We went to Villa del Palmar on a "time share" trip. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at the Villa del Palmar. The room, staff, food, etc were wonderful. I cannot wait for my return.
