Loved, loved, loved our stay here!! Having been to Cabo only once before (briefly while in port on a cruise) I wasn't too familiar with the area. I purchased the Living Social deal and figured if it wasn't the "greatest" experience at least we got a good deal. Well, we got an AMAZING deal and it was one of the greatest experiences. Starting from the beginning....
Airport - As others have stated, it's best to book your shuttle in advance!! It's the cheapest way to go, and efficient. Additionally, ignore all the people trying to get your attention after you've gotten your luggage. Keep walking OUTSIDE where you'll find a driver holding a sign, waiting for you. Bonus of making a beeline outside to find your driver.....TWO bars :) You've arrived....you're on vacation!! Have a Corona and relax while you wait for anyone else that's riding on your van.
Check-In - Check in was quick and easy. Wasn't overly amazed by the lobby, on the small side but clean with a beautiful, inviting view of the fountain/pool/beach. We were given wrist bands to indicate that we had the all-inclusive package, our room keys....and away we went! Easy breezy.
Room - I asked for a room on a higher level based on others suggestions. Unfortunately one was not available. And we ended up with a view of nothing, lol. Well, the aviary was right outside...and the fountain area/koi pond. So still nice but no pool or beach view. Which for us was fine, as we didn't plan on spending much time in the room. The room was a good size, and clean. The full fridge/kitchenette was nice to have. So heads up, if you don't do all-inclusive (BUT YOU SHOULD) then you can stop not far from the hotel and do some shopping at Sam's club. Stock up, and you can make/store meals in your room.
In regards to the bed. It's true....all they have are doubles. BUT, have a bellman come fix you up by shoving the beds together and it's one of the best HUGE beds to sleep in. Not a big deal at all. We did not have a problem with theft. But we also tried to prevent it from happening. We locked up our suitcases and kept the suitcase key with us when we headed out. This way....it would be way obvious if someone tampered with our luggage and took money, jewelry, etc. However I did leave items on the bathroom counter (costume jewelry) and it was never touched or taken.
Be sure to tip the cleaning people as well. You're room will be spotless, and they'll like you :)
Pool - The pool is fabulous. Lots of little ledges to sit on and relax. The waiters are very attentive. Again, TIP!! A few dollars go a long way. Having the all inclusive at the pool rocked. We ordered food and drinks with reckless abandon. The ceviche is delicious!! So are the shrimp cocktails....club sandwich....basically we didn't order anything that we didn't like. Oh, and the guacamole....get it!! As for drinks....the Miami Vice is fabulous. Without the all-inclusive these will set you back over $10 each. Once we were done hanging out at the pool, we'd ask for a bucket of beer and take it to our room. Put it in the fridge and we had cold drinks to enjoy while getting ready to go out for the evening :) There are lots of activities at the pool too. Trivia games, water aerobics, book swap/rental, card games, Bingo, volleyball. Great fun for adults and kids. We made lots of friends around the pool. The staff that runs the games are so much fun, and they work hard to make sure you're having a great time.
Beach - The pool area is adjacent to the beach area. Yes, there are the usual "sales people" at the beach. But seriously, if you don't expect this in Mexico then you're from another planet. They don't harass. They ask you...you say the universal word "NO (thank you/gracias)" and continue on your way. We walked the beach many times because the hotel is a short walk from a ton of beachside bars/restaurants. It's nice walking along the water....do it. Oh, and yes the current is strong. I lost a ring :( So you might want to leave your jewelry off when getting in. But the water is a perfect temperature of warm and clear!! You can see fishies!! Since this is one of the few swimmable beaches, this is another HUGE plus of staying at the Rose.
Food - Again, the all-inclusive is the way to go. We overheard a couple discussing their regret at NOT purchasing it. It really is worth it. I like to enjoy eating/drinking while on vacation and not think of dollar signs the whole time. We had the buffet breakfast with a beautiful ocean view every morning. Most days the food was similiar....omelettes made to order, potatoes, beans....dry cereal, fruit. You can also get a fruit smoothie made on the spot. Again, tipping is key. The first morning I had a mimosa and it came in a somewhat puny champagne flute. We left a tip....and from then on my mimosa came in a schooner!! Score!! The Champagne brunch on Sunday was amazing!! The area was transformed with decorated carts full of food. Ceviche, enchiladas, clams (cooked a variety of ways) pozole, paella.....I could go on and on. It was SOOOO good. Plus the piano player/live band made for a fabulous morning.
There is also a sushi set-up at the pool/beach bar. Ehhhh, probably the most mediocre meal we had but not terrible. The ambience however was fab. Sushi and drinks with the waves crashing right behind you....can't beat it.
We also ate at Pueblo Blanco which is right next door. One night they set us up on the sand under a cute little tent like thing. This is what vacation is all about!! Another night my boyfriend had the filet mignon here, and it was delicious. Again, the price would have been about 25 bucks for his plate. Flash that wristband, and it's included. No charge, nada. Just a tip :)
Spa - The Spa is amazing. AMAZING!! One of the best parts of the Living Social deal is the 2 one hour massages. We had an early couples massage booked. We got to the spa about a half hour early to utilize the amenities. Men and women areas are separated, and you're brought into the couples room through side doors. There's a wet and dry sauna. The place smells like heaven. Cucumber slices and towels are set out for your use. There's water, and tea available. I brought my mimosa from the pool bar with me.... There's a jacuzzi room with three jacuzzi's. A hot one, a warm one, and a freezing one. I did the quick dip in the freezing one, and then got in the hot one....and yes, very invigorating/different experience. Ummm, also be warned of the waterfall. I turned it on thinking it was jets and imagine my surprise when a waterfall dumps on my head. Thank GOD I was in there alone when this happened.
The massage was awesome. So relaxing and great way to start the day. I felt like a noodle afterwards. There are showers to wash off the oils, as well as shampoo/lotion/q-tips....blowdryer. All the bells and whistles. HEAVEN!
Staff - The staff here is fantastic. Tips truly go a long way. Make friends with the servers/staff. Makes your trip that much more memorable.
Random other tips - Go to Mango Deck! Fun outdoor bar a short walk away. Servers will make sure you have a great time. We went there about three times. Order their guacamole! It's made tableside and is yummy!!
Wait to book excursions. You shouldn't pay more than $1 a minute for jet skis. And you don't have to do a full hour. Deal with the guys on the beach. They expect it....
We also did a cocktail/evening cruise. Great way to cruise around, get great pics, listen to a live band.
Do the ATV excursion!! So much fun!!!! Living Social people......although ATV is promoted as a 50% off deal....it's a lie. The company Living Social advertises does NOT offer ATV's. However, if you present the concierge with the paperwork that shows this included, they will contact a company to get you a reduced rate.
Ask the bartenders for bottled water to keep stored in your room.
So basically, we absolutely loved this hotel/location/service. We would return in a heartbeat, and plan to!! I've found the negative reviews are nit-picky. And these people prob wouldn't be happy anywhere. You'll love it here. The price is more than fair...and we'd pay more.
