“Great experience at the Solmar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

I have traveled extensively and this is the first place I've ever stayed that was all-inclusive. My sisters and friend and I stayed January 30-Feb 3, 2014.

The check-in process was very quick. They had us sign in and gave us our resort bracelets and escorted us to our rooms. The room my friend and I got was amazing and beyond our expectations. It had three balconies, two bathrooms and a large sitting area. We settled in and about 10 minutes later someone arrived with our welcome drinks which we drank on the balcony while watching the whales migrate by. It seemed every 5 minutes we spotted a whale. My sisters got a room below us which was a little smaller than ours but still very nice.

We spent about half the time at the resort and half the time in town and at lover's beach. The rooms and grounds were kept very clean. The pool was the perfect temperature and there's a little swim-up bar which offers mixed drinks and Tecate of Dos XX. The walk into town is about 10 minutes and perfectly safe day or night. Solmar also offers a shuttle to Playa Grande which my sister and I took one night to check out and play mini golf. I must say that I'm glad we were at Solmar instead of the mega resort Playa Grande. The new Playa Grande feels like a Vegas Resort.

The food was pretty good at the resort. We liked the sushi and the sandwiches at the snack bar. The breakfast burritos were also very good. I would definitely go back to Solmar again!

*We were there during construction and it did not bother us at all.

Great staff, delicious food, comfortable bed. Wonderful "unswimmable" beach facing south where locals are excluded. You MUST know how to swim! As the beach falls off quickly there are no dangerous rip currents and the backwash after each wave should be no surprise. If you drink, don't swim. If you swim, don't drink and don't swim near the rocks. If you have an all inclusive deal it may be tempting to drink at all hours. But don't blame the beach if you loose control, blame the drinks. Around the rock facing north there is a very gentle beach where the locals can go, called el pacadero after the old ruined tuna packing plant.

The stopper in the king size bath tub didn't work so we had to improvise to be able to take a tub bath.

Cabo San Lucas is expensive and you almost feel like you're still in the US. This is in part because many tourists are from the US, in part because the Mexicans speak English here and in part because of the look of the town.

For attractions I don't believe anything imaginable is missing.

I am a little late on my review, but me and my husband came here for our honeymoon a few months ago thru a living social all inclusive deal for about $580 for 6 nights and we had an AMAZING time! The rooms are a bit outdated and has more of an authentic Mexican feel , but it didnt bother us too much. The food at the resort was simply amazing. We never had such good steaks in our lives before. We ate and drank non stop, while staring at the ocean. There will be employees at the resort, who will try to make you go to time share presentations. We did it a few times, so we get complimentary activities. We ended up going para sailing, ATV riding, went on a cruise and got on the boat house for free, just by attending time share presentations for an hr or 2. We also got a couples spa massage on the beach, while hearing the waves roar nearby. The weather was simply perfect, The staff was so friendly and helpful. It was the perfect little getaway for our honeymoon and we created memories that would last a lifetime.

The food was wonderful and ordering off the menu was very nice. The staff was extremely gracious and helpful. It was fun to watch for whales from the table at breakfast. I would highly recommend this resort. There was construction next door, but it did not detract from our experience. The location is an easy walk into town and the beach only had a few hotels, so was quiet.

Room Tip: The rooms were quiet.

The Solmar is a great place to stay in Cabo. The beach area is beautiful and secluded from all of the locals selling souvenirs, taxis, etc. It is a quick and easy walk to the rock cliffs leading to lover's beach and the arch. The room was very spacious with multiple patios overlooking the pool and beach area. The whales were out (early February) and visible from the hotel grounds and beach. We had the all inclusive package and ate all of our meals in the hotel restaurant - the food and service was great! We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: For whale watching, go with the Zodiac (small rubber) boats instead of the larger boats - they are a...

This review is for the older Solmar resort, not the newer one at Lands End. We did not do the all inclusive as it was not mandatory. There are too many great restaurants to walk to on the marina. We had a one bedroom unit which was very clean and it had 2 full bathrooms. The set up was different as the kitchen was hard to function in as far as washing dishes and counter space, but I know a lot of people don't cook in like we do on a daily basis. The room was good for 2 people but I wouldn't have wanted any more than that in it. The resort is a very slow and laid back setting which is fine with us. We spent all our days on the beach watching the whale action instead of the pool. It seemed busy with families and was good for the kids to swim. We walked the marina every day and found good restaurants as usual. The construction that was going on for the new additions was not bothersome to us but the "regulars" that come here regularly as members didn't sound so pleased with the addition. We would return here but if you're looking for a lot of action, I think you'll be disappointed.

Dear customer from Pierceton, In.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on your visit to the Original Solmar Resort. We are glad to know that you have enjoyed your stay and the facilities of the Resort as well as our secluded location. There is nothing more relaxing that watch the sea life and the spectacular sunsets from this piece of paradise in the Pacific Ocean especially in this whale season. Please do not wait too long to comeback and allow us to provide an even better experience. Warm greetings from Cabo!!

Our reservations for our two week stay in Cabo ran from Sunday to Sunday but we wanted to fly home mid week. Since nothing was available at our original resort for two more days we searched online and found room at Solmar which we had visited several years back.
We drove into the resort and were surprised to find the physical facilities much improved from when we were there before. The location is superb being right on the beach on the Pacific side. The suite was quite large, overlooked the ocean and the pool. Surprisingly the all inclusive meals are all served to your table with no buffets. The food was good as was the service. Breakfast was a bit slow but good. Because we were there for the Super Bowl they suspended table service and had a "tail gate" type buffet with hot dogs, hamburgers, beef ribs, bar-b-q chicken and all the fix'ns. All local alcoholic beverages and house spirits were included with our meals and at pool side; they were of decent quality. It was not fancy but it was well done and a very good value.
Typical of many Mexican resorts the try to sell you a time share but we expressed our disinterest and our gracious hostess understood and backed off.

Room Tip: take the 1000 sq ft suite. they are roomy and well located
