First of all, this is on the spectacular Capella Pedegal property. A reservation here will allow you to visit the resort property. The restaurant is nestled behind the beachfront pool area.
I recommend arriving early - when it's still light out so you can see the property in both light and after the sun goes down. There is a bar / lounge area to the right of the restaurant that is great for a cocktail. I really enjoyed the 'spiced sangria.'. Very interesting and refreshing - almost like a chilled mulled wine. They also have an excellent selection of tequila.
We dined on the outdoor patio, which was lit by fire pits and heaters to ensure we stay warm into the night.
The food was excellent. We were with a large party and so had the luxury to try many dishes. I started with the shrimp appetizer with corn risotto. The grilled shrimp with poblano sauce was excellent. The risotto was also good, although a bit heavy for an app. Other dishes that stood out were the mussels with leeks, saffron and tequila as well as the crab salad and beet salad with ricotta. When I return, I will order the crab salad next time.
For main courses, I recommend sticking with the seafood options. They did not have tuna the night we were there so they made the same preparation with Mahi Mahi, with excellent results. It was blackened and served with a cucumber salad with green mole. The mole was soooooo delicious and flavorful. They should replace the tuna on an ongoing basis! I also tried the seabass veracruz, which was also fresh and flavorful. My husband ordered the filet with mole coloradito, which was only OK. The beef could have been more tender and we wish there was more mole on the dish.
Make sure you order dessert. You will be full from the earlier courses since the portions are generous and everything is so delicious, but you must still order dessert. We had the 'education in chocolate,' which was phenomenal. There are several tastings of the different chocolate varietals. I especially enjoyed the mini gooey chocolate cake and dark chocolate cookies with sea salt.
All in all, we had a great dining experience and will definitely return on our next visit to Cabo.
