“Waste of my money and time, they were not ready even in high season.”
Reviewed July 26, 2010

We ate a splendid bar meal here a few weeks back.So we booked for a night,we were not offered a Superior or Suite room so ended up in a Standard with loch view.
We arrived at most ten minutes after the lunch service and were denied ANY food in the bar while others ate and the cooks worked. The lady who showed us to our room was not concerned either they only had fruit cake in the afternoon.(We walked to the local tea room were they too had no food other than a fruit scone and very bad coffee and put up the closed sign as we sat.)
Our room and bathroom would have been fine but for the fact the iron bed frame (double not queen)the cheap mattress and lumpy pillows, topped off with one polyester blanket and a cotton ? war surplace bed cover could well fit the props order for a film on the Crimean War !!
We were paying £200 for this and dinner.
The view is good spoiled as usual by the close traffic.
Few rooms were occupied but no offers were available.
Most of the staff activity is in the bar, the guest areas looking like an abandoned ship (its a long narrow building)we would walk back to the bar to order a drink service bells not being friendly enough for the spoilt staff.
The owner is a pleasant young man with no apparent knowledge of customer care.
Dinner was dire, outsiders expected to pay £37.The carpetless room more like a dance hall. There was no food at dinner or breakfast that showed any skill.
Another little disaster dear reader,or was the bad weather a factor?

We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We take on board your comment on the pillows in your room, new luxury pillows have been ordered for this and other rooms. I will not comment on your other findings, a certain amount of maliciousness and exaggeration on your part has left us very disappointed that you have abused this medium of unaccountable reviewing.

We booked this hotel as it had received very good reviews. I'm glad to say we weren't disappointed. The staff are attentive and service is very good even when they are busy. We dined in the restaurant both evenings which was included in our DBB package and found the quality of the food to be good. There is also a good choice of menu in the more informal dining area near the bar. The locals were very friendly and many were to be found eating and drinking in the bar which is always a good sign! If the hotel wanted to improve upon anything it would probably be to update the decor in the rooms and public areas. Although perhaps that is part of it's charm.

Friendly, welcoming staff, including Hector the very polite dog. Wonderful, well appointed room overlooking the Loch. Excellent service and food in restaurant and bar.
A powercut in the local area did not upset the staff and full Scottish breakfast served regardless. Variety of lounges for relaxing and reading. Lots to do in surrounding area - charming Glendaruel church and ancient stones, Inverary and its Gaol, Ben Cruachan's hollow mountain, and the fascinating St Conan's church on Loch Awe.
It was like being a houseguest in a country house, I imagine.

On holiday in Scotland, travelled from Perth to stay on Loch Fyne, this hotel was ok but when it rains there are no facilities at all in entire area and not much to explore, the landscape was not as nice as Oban, Appin, Fort William where you have the wonderful Harry Potter train , Glencoe and shopping streets and pubs etc for when the weather is not so good.Nice walk along coast to country house spoiled by heavy traffic. Local lady who served food very friendly but otherwise just ok.

Nice hotel with friendly staff. Excellent food but a possibly a little pricey.
We had a bedroom with fantastic views over Loch Fyne and beyond but it rained continually whilst we were there.
Nice bedrooms with spacious bathrooms but need to change those old grey portable TV's for flat screen type which look so much better.

We were immediately made to feel very welcome. We had a loch view from our room which was much better than anticipated. Very fresh, with large sitting area and massive bathroom.
The bar was cosy and comforting after a very long journey. We ate in the lounge rather than the dining room as no other guests staying. This was better than some restaurants I have eaten in and the service was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble.
The food was amazing. A little pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. Could not fault it.
Breakfast was served in the dining room , with extensive views over the loch. Again the standard was fantastic.
Have started saving already for my return visit!
