Highland Breeze Accommodations
Ranked #4 of 6 Pleasant Bay B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 28, 2010

We arrived at the Highland Breeze B&B on June 27th and stayed in the "Grand Anse" room which was a lovely room complete with whirlpool tub! The room (entire house) was absolutely spotless and very nicely appointed. The bed was very comfortable. There is a great swimming pool and also a hot tub available. It was so very relaxing to sit by the pool and look at the ocean in one direction and at the mountains in another direction. If you like to walk or hike the scenery is absolutely stunning. You can walk on the beach and take in the magnificant view of the ocean and mountains. It is a photographers dream!
Anna and Alain made us feel so welcomed and at home. In the evening they offered delicious treats along with a great variety of teas while we sat around having conversation with the other guests. In the morning Anna sets a beautiful table for a breakfast that is second to none. She is a fabulous cook, and her cinnamon rolls are the best I have ever eaten! I wold highly recommend this B&B to anyone travelling around the Cabot Trail.

Highland Breeze is a great stop if you want to break the Cabot Trail into 2 days.
Anna is a superb host and bakes delicious goodies and treats for "after dinner dessert". We were offered chocolate cake as well as Butterscotch, both of which were fab. And her breakfasts will easily fill you up until well past lunchtime.
We had two bedrooms - one just off the kitchen / living room (for myself, my husband and our 2.5 year old son), and the other one in the basement (for my parents in law). The upstairs bedroom had a huge bed and a little room, accessible through a double doorway, where we (thankfully) put our son to sleep (he snores!), as well as an ensuite. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The only downside was being so close to the kitchen / living room, as you can hear everything that is going on outside your room if you happen to go to bed early and rise late.

If you are driving up to Cape Breton Island and drive the Cabot Trail and miss this B&B you are making a huge mistake. This place is amazing - Anna makes you feel right at home and the baking is delicious. I have not had a better breakfast at any other place I have ever stayed - and everything is freshly baked that morning! Also, the one thing that sold us on this B&B was the nightly deserts and they more than fit the bill - blueberry cake with brown sugar sauce on the first night and a chocolate "something" the next night. I cannot speak highly enough of Highland Breeze. Also, check out the Rusty Anchor restaurant for a delicious lobster feast for cheap :]

Thanks Anna!

Anna...Anna...Anna!!! When we arrived Anna was baking (from scratch) date cookies, cherry/coconut cookies, and bread. You wouldn't believe the smells of her kitchen. We had just finished a long drive, and as we sat and talked, she gave us fresh cookies straight from the oven. Every night at 9:00 we had her deserts...WOW were they good! Hot blueberry cake with ice cream and chocolate cake with a chocolate whipped cream topping. Then the breakfasts with whatever we wanted from french toast to omlets to cranberry pancakes to home made biscuits. Oh yeah...the rooms...they were fantastic as well. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had a library of excellent books. I read one on Churchill. It was early in the year, so we had one day of thick fog, but talking with Anna and smelling her baking and tasting her creations made our day. Thank you Anna. P.S. We will be back!

We spent three nights at the Highland Breeze and can recommend it unequivocally. The rooms are immaculate and well-appointed. Pleasant Bay is a stunning location. The B&B has a view of the picturesque little harbor and the ocean. It's a short walk to the ocean where we saw whales frolicking just offshore. There are many excellent trails in the adjacent national park for lazy day hikers like us. It's a fifteen minute drive from Gampo Abbey, a world-famous Buddhist monastery which is a treat to visit.

The greatest part of the B&B is Anna's hospitality. Anna is a warm and friendly person who will welcome you heartily to her home. It is worth staying a night just to meet her and hear some of her stories about her life and the people of Pleasant Bay. She happily cooked all sorts of delicious vegan treats for us, accommodating our unusual diet skillfully and graciously, which is more than we had any right to expect. She allowed us to use her kitchen to prepare our own meals when necessary. She knows everything about the local area: she can put you in touch with whale-watching tours, direct you to the best hiking trails, tell you where to see a moose, and much more.

We enjoyed a night sitting in her hot tub, watching the stars in the spectacularly clear and dark sky. We hiked around the area and went for walks along the shore to watch for whales. Our suite--the French Suite--has an adjoining private sitting room where we spent many happy hours reading in comfy chairs when it rained. There is no shortage of things to do near this B&B. We could have stayed a week or more and not experienced everything.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Highland Breeze to anyone.

Really enjoyed our stay with Anna, who's done a truly magnificent job of hosting us; wished we could stay longer than the one day we stopped in whilst travelling around the area!
Definately suggest this plac e for a comfy stay to anyone - you'll be spoilt by Anna, and the room we stayed in was sooooo nice!

my friend and i stayed at highland breeze bed and breakfast in mid-june of 2009. our time spent there was flawless. the service was incredible, the room/bathroom clean and most of all, the food was delicious! above all though, our hostess was very friendly and she made our stay enjoyable and worthwhile. the location was perfect, with whale-watching just a 3 minute walk away as well as a beach nearby. thanks for making our stay a memorable one!
