“Small but charming and informative!”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

We stopped by after doing a whale watching tour. The staff at this center were friendly and knowledgeable. The exhibits were very informative, albeit limited. A lovely place to stop along the Cabot trail for a break to learn a bit about these wonderful creatures!

“Small but incredibly informative”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

Pleasant Bay is very small and before I got there I was worried that I would have a problem finding this place as well as the whale watching operating companies (not an issue at all!). As you enter the town heading north into the town on Cabot Trail, you will see signs for both (I think it is the first left – they are all located on the same street, the Whale Interpretive Centre is just above the tour companies). Once you pay for the museum, you have access to it enter in and out for the day so if you begin going through prior to whale watching and do not finish you can go back and finish up after your tour. They also have clean bathrooms here (which is hard to come by in this area – unless you eat at one of the few restaurants in the area, the souvenir shop or go to the MacIntosh Brook trailhead which is just north of Pleasant Bay).

The museum itself has a lot of great information about whales that is not general knowledge (the evolution of whales, whaling, issues this beautiful mammal faces today, etc). There is also a short video to watch a sound wall with different whale songs (probably my favorite part!). It was $4.35 Canadian a person. If you have a little bit of time (about an hour), I highly recommend you stop in and check this place out!

“Better understanding of whales”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

My husband and I enjoyed the Whale Interpretive Centre because we learned so much about whales and the history of whaling in the Pleasant Bay area. We have a new understanding of the problems that arise when water mammals become endangered.

“Interesting”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

This was worth the stop but could be updated and improved. I would suspect that the funds are very limited so that likely limits their scope. Probably could add more whale pictures without too much cost. We watched the movie on whaling which was good. Perhaps they could add another film. There was a small 'tidal pool' that was empty....but we were late in the season so maybe this was up and running in the summer.
