“Perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

This motel was a pleasant surprise, very clean and charming. The location was perfect since it was half way through the Cabot Trail. It was located just up the hill from all the whale watching tours and a close walk to an amazing seafood restaurant, the Rusty Anchor.
The staff at the MidTrail was friendly and the view from the motel is breathtaking. Don't expect to be making phone calls from your cell phone because no one in my group was able to get a signal, but there is wifi. Will definitely stay there again given the opportunity.

Room Tip: ocean view room is better.

Driving around Cabot trail the Mid Trail motel offered a convenient place to spend the night. Great location both as a natural place to stop and spend the night at top of trail as well as with a great view of Pleasant bay. Nice little beach and small hill with Adirondack chairs to sit and watch the bay. Room was small and basic, but clean with back door and small patio so we could scope the view. But, the "lobby" and "dinning room" are one and the same with kitchen located behind front desk. While checking in we watched the "cook" in the kitchen which was a mess slopping pale brown gravy onto plates with some sort of meat and white bread. Following the slopping she proceeded to lick spilled gravy off here fingers then handled the plates for service. Would not eat anything in that motel even if nothing else available.
Nice place to stay just eat somewhere else.

Unfortunately all the rooms were full and we were unable to stay here, however I have lots of good things to say about this place. The lovely ladies here helped us to find accommodations elsewhere, and we used their laundry facilities, and also ate there twice. The food was fresh, the service pleasant and cheerful, the ambiance warm, and the prices reasonable. The views from the property are outstanding. Just wish we could have seen what the rooms were like. Thank you for a lovely taste of Nova Scotian hospitality!!!!

Room Tip: Stop by for a meal! Worth the stop!

Mid-trail is at the top of the Cabot Trail and offers some of the most spectacular views of any accommodation and that’s why we booked it. The cliff side Adirondack chairs provide a 180 degree view of Pleasant Bay, which is almost breathtaking. Right next door, within walking distance, is Wesley’s Whale Watching Tours, which we highly recommend (if you go on the 5:00 PM cruise you get a discount).

The pink exterior of the motel is a bit of a throw-off, but the interior is pleasantly surprising. The room was remarkably clean, the bed very comfortable, all the appliances worked, including the TV. The in-house restaurant served above-average meals, we were most pleased with our dinner and the wait staff.

Without question, we will stay here again, hopefully soon.

Room Tip: If for no other reason, stay for the views/

We were on a motorcycle trip to Nova Scotia and wanted to stay at the Mid trail since we rode past it on our last trip to the Cabot trail. We were not disappointed at all. The check in was great and the young lady even delivered us a cold beverage to our room. The room was nice, clean and the little patio was perfect. Now the views! Omg perfect! I so enjoyed sitting out on the patio at night and in the mornings, so beautiful . We stayed for two nights and enjoyed a nice discount for dinner. The food and service was really good. My waitress had to do something really nice for me and I was so great full that she took care of me without any fuss. Breakfast was nice and very good. We would stay here again anytime. Great place.

The site is fantastic, ocean view, colourful chairs at the top of the hill to view the water, overlooking the harbour and easy to find as it's right on the trail. The staff was very friendly and did everything they could to help out. The sky at night was wonderful, full of stars and shooting stars even!

The room however seemed unfinished. The window bathroom had a few horizontal blind broken and so there was little privacy to be had (we ended up putting cardboard to fill the blank) - which is nice to have when the window faces all the other doors. Also, the room smelled so strongly of carpet cleaner, it made the evening/night very unpleasant. No other room was available on location nor nearby so not much could be done but we did get a discount on the room, which at least made it a bit easier to bare. I had to redo the bed as the bedspread was bunched up under the sheet and the tv was a pain to operate.

Not my best evening on the trail. I'm sure other rooms were much better so I wouldn't completely scratch it off my list.

Nice low key hotel with a great view of Pleasant Bay. Definitely convenient if you are doing the loop and want to chill for the evening. We stayed on the second floor of the pink house. Nothing fancy but the room was large with a nice clean bathroom and a great view of Pleasant Bay. There is a cliff overlooking the bay and people gather there and on the beach to watch the sunset. Restaurant was good; beautiful touch on the halibut!
