We stayed here for a break 25th June for two nights.

Wonderful time, Simon and the staff were brilliant, made us feel very much at home.

The food was delicious, the rooms were so comfortable. Everyone was so welcoming, we will certainly be back. Beautiful surroundings, so pleased we chose this for our break.

They had scaffolding up necessary as problem with a roof, but they were so good in letting everyone know so they had the choice whether or not to come. Did not affect the wonderful time we had. It was perfect.

Room Tip: We booked a superior room no 2, it was lovely so pleased with it.

The scaffolding was still up but didn't spoil the stay at all. Would have been nice to see the place in all its glory but it just means we have to visit again when all the work is done.
We ate there every night of our stay, the food was excellent and the service was always good with friendly staff. A good selection of real ales and local ciders to choose from to accompany your meal.
Breakfasts were also good and a nice touch providing a cooked sausage for our dogs breakfast each morning too.
We stayed in a Superior Room I believe, this was very spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, inconsiderate "neighbours" in nearby rooms didn't seem to know how to close doors, constantly allowing them to slam shut.
All the locals were friendly and chatty.
We will certainly be going back for another stay.

Scaffolding was up which was a shame. Repairing an ancient beam damaged in a storm in main part of pub but not interfering the bar or where food was eaten. Beers excellent. Staff were friendly. Food average. We stayed for 1 night, in room 4 which was very comfortable overlooking car park. Bathroom good. Everything clean and fresh. No wifi in rooms only in public area of the bars. Plenty of walks and a nice circular walk down to the sea and back to the pub.

Despite the building works, this little place is still charming.

However, the reviews below are spot on about food. They are understaffed, and the food is a let down and over-priced for what it is.

There are one or two staff working their socks off and three or four not. The problem with the food repeats the chip comments made earlier, but also extends to other veg eg new potatoes which seem to have seen the microwave more than thrice by the time they get to you.

Sticky tables not wiped clean and stuff like that.

Told table one was for locals even though occupied by three or four sets of non-locals all through the evening, having been told it was not free. Daft as brushed management and questionable prices, and managers resting on laurels.

They don't need to repair the roof but the ethos of the place.

My husband & I (dark haired girl and shaven headed guy) had an evening meal at the pub/hotel on Thursday 15th May. We were greeted by a friendly woman called Deko, who which we thought was the manager of the pub. We have been coming to this pub for many years, and have never had such efficient service. To be honest, none of the other staff are up to her standards. We found out Deko was not the manager, but in our eyes she is wasted in her abilities. We would hope the owner of the Mason's Arms would consider Deko for a higher role.
The food was excellent as well!

Had been to Beer Quarry Caves (excellent) and went across the country road to Branscombe and stopped her for a pint. Nice outside area, spoilt at present as scaffolding up for repairs with workmen spoiling the peace with their radio blaring away. Nice choice of beers but expensive, a pint and ordinary coffee almost £6.50. We were going to have a light lunch but the prices! Crab sandwich £10.50 - as a Ploughmans £14.50. Cannot see how such prices can be good value - my wife had the best crab sandwich ever on the coast at Portland - all white meat £6.50. Masons - nice quaint place but just so so expensive

We have been to visit the Masons Arms on several occasions for lunch when walking in the area, but decided that we would like a short break. We were given a very good room overlooking the car park, with a large en-suite and vanity area, plenty of storage space and ample supplies of tea/coffee. The only downside was that the bed had a winter duvet and together with the room being quite warm, we didn't sleep well. We opened all of the windows in the room and en-suite, but we were close to some sort of generator or extractor, which came on intermittently throughout the night, further disturbing our sleep. (I would take earplugs with me next time). The breakfasts were excellent - full English, Eggs Benedict, haddock with poached egg - all cooked to perfection. We had one lunch, which was a really well-filled ham sandwich and side order of chips. The beer is excellent - Proper Job was our favourite. We had all of our dinners here and I think that fish must be the house speciality. I eat fish a lot and I think this is some of the best fish I have ever tasted. The scampi was delicious, as were partner's mussels. John Dory, although quite small was perfectly cooked, likewise the sole. The only let-downs were the fish-cakes, which partner said were just okay, and the squid, which was overcooked, greasy and unappetising. Soups are another speciality, with the mushroom soup and the coriander and vegetable both being delicious. I can't comment on any of the puddings, but we did have the ice-cream one night, which was really good quality and we both enjoyed it. Cheese board gives a good selection of local cheeses and the coffee is really good. Staff were always extremely pleasant, with the exception of one waiter in the restaurant, who did not deal with us, but was off-hand with another customer in our hearing. Overall, an enjoyable stay and we hope to return with friends very soon.
