The view over the river is great and Joy is real nice but the bed linen doesn't get changed, they shake it out ready for a new customer, the beds are hard also. I got my laundry done and i don't think they even used laundry soap, it stank when i got it back and what's funny is Joy doesn't have a weighing scale she guesses how much your laundry weighs!!!! Plenty of other places to get your laundry done. I wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed here for a week and payed 50000 kip a night. The bungalows are basic but have everything you need. They are a lot better than our other bamboo bungalow experiences. They had nice fresh sheets and towels and a mosquito net. It had furniture, a fan, a table and chairs and a hammock. The bathroom was tiled and had a western style toilet with a bucket flush and was clean. It had a really hot electric shower and electricity all day and night. The views from the balcony are beautiful, days just go whilst your laid in the hammock. The location was great and even though there was no Internet two cafes over the road had the Internet so it was no problem, just pop over for a long beer Lao. I would hundred percent recomend this place and the owner was really friendly. We had our laundry done here also and it came back really fresh. The only bad thing we had was one big spider in our bathroom and a lot of ants trying to eat throat lozenges in our medical kit which got into the bed and bit us but once we removed the medical kit it was no problem. A lovely place with a relaxed atmosphere and gorgeous views. Just perfect.

pros

good view. and balcony, close to the drop off point with the bus

cons
no wifi
old toilets... turkish style, the toilets haven't been washed for years, when we asked her to clean, she cleaned with no soap
we dealt down to 70 000 does not worth the 100 000 asked
no service
cleaniness is so so

Room Tip: upper bungalows are slighty better, western toilets and better views

We loved our bamboo bungalow overlooking the river. It was clean, we had no problems with the bathroom and beds had a good mosquito nets. Breakfast was good. The noise of river boats and people off to work all added to the atmosphere. This is very basic accommodation, which is reflected in the price, so don't expect luxury!
The bungalow is across the river from Nong Kiaow. Turn left out of the bus station in Nong Kiaow and keep walking for about half a mile before you get to the bridge to cross the river.

The setting for the bungalows is wonderful. We enjoyed the late afternoon on the porch, overlooking the river. - It was later that the problems began. No hot water in the shower. The sink drained into the sink cabinet and out onto the floor. The toilet backed up during the night. A bamboo rat came into the room during the night through the holes in the bathroom walls. -- We are backpackers and are able to adapt to most situations, but this accommodation was clearly not worth the expense. This was the worse hotel / hostel experience we had on our 6 wk. trip.

Room Tip: Choose a different accommodation!

We spent four nights in Nong Khiaw - lovely town for doing not a lot - Sunrise seemed to have the same bungalows as everywhere else but a bit cheaper. We stayed two nights in the 80,000 hut and then upgraded to a brick hut for 100,000. Unfortunately both rooms suffered the same problem: the toilet. Both toilets were Western style with a bucket flush, which wasn't a problem, but there's clearly something up with the plumbing/drainage as both toilets STUNK of sewage. So much so that I really can't recomend staying there. We're pretty relaxed about standards but it got ridiculous pretty quickly - we'd be popping to nearby restaurants to use their toilet rather than endure the stench of our bathroom!

If things like bugs or a mild smell of mould bother you then don't say here but seriously you are in Laos right on the river of course there are going to be bugs and a little mould smell. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable and the staff were amazingly friendly. In my opinion (as a student who does temp work) it was cheap. The restaurant there does really nice food as well. The hammock on the balcony of the river front rooms are beyond amazing and I wish I could have spent weeks here just soaking in all the scenery.
