We stopped here from May 3rd for three nights; we were welcomed by Sam who could not do enough to help us, but left us to set ourselves up.
Although basic this sight offered us everything we need and more.
It is hard to believe it is in the middle of the village.
We could spend hours looking at the old buildings and gardens it is steeped in fascinating history.
I left somewhat saddened however, as a keen DIY er this is the sort of property I would have loved to have bought with a view to restoring but am now to old and knackered to consider such a task.
Alan and Sam are doing a wonderful job and we would love to come back in a few years to see the changes.

We've just returned from a family camping weekend at Platt's Farm and it was brilliant.

The owners we're so attentive but not in your way. Anything you needed, no matter the time of day or night they'd be there to assist. They were polite, kind and helpful and no request was too big.

The farm itself is beautiful. The architecture of some of the buildings is incredible and once the rest of the renovation work has been completed it'll look even better.

Onsite you have 11 pitches spaced not to close with various shelter areas, barns and sheds that can be used any time for anything. The spit roast and fire pits we're brilliant and something we'd never had before (we've done a lot of camping) and added that little extra touch. The meat (which the owners ordered from a local butcher for us) was cooked on the spit roast was incredible, it just fell apart and a MUST if you are planning on staying.

The weekend we spent at Platt's Farm was one of the nicest camping weekends we've had. Facilities (x2 toilets, x2 Showers, Washing area, Spit roast, Fire pits etc), Space, People, you name it, they've got it.

Thanks and all the best for the future; we'll definitely be back!

I meant to put this review in earlier but never got round to it ! What a welcome and what hosts! We have stayed at a few venues and accomodating 15 under 16 boys with their irresponsible dad's on a 'Lad's and Dad's' camping trip is never easy for any venue. From start to finish we were made to feel welcome- nothing was to much bother, we were left to our own devices but felt supported. The group was not the quietest- singing " Don't stop believing at 2am can try anyones patience", but as we had explained we needed somewhere we could 'let our hair down' they duely accomidated.
The HOG roast on saturday night was amazing, the fact the the owners ordered the meat, set it up and started the roasting , so when we came back from our paintballing all was ready- we couldnt ask for more. We should have ordered more meat as the boy's loved ALL of it !
Even when we burnt the picnic table with a disposable BBQ ( in fairness we did put some slate down to protect it- but my undersatnding of heat conection is obviously flawed), the owners didn't kick off ( we did pay for it but even then they didnt over charge) just took it in the good spirit and the accident it was.
Pub and shop's on the door steo, over hangs with fire cages and an open barn for the kids ( to be by 'themselves') around a fire pit with marsh mallows- it was perfect !!
Well done guys- you should be proud of yourself- P.Davy, Westhoughton Lions Under 16 Rugby League Team Summer 2012.
There hsopitality is amazing- we will definately be using them again ( if they will have us back!!)

Arrived late afternoon. Reception only open 1pm - 3pm, 6pm - 7pm. But notice on door directing me to pitch which was well marked.
Pitches are flat, well spaced, and good ground so no rock pegs needed.
There are covered areas for cooking / eating if it rains, a hot water washing up sink, 2 x showers and 2 x toilets. The site only has 11 pitches which is enough I think for this site and facilities.
We hired a fire basket for £7 which came with matches, kindling, firestarters and a bag of logs. The logs dont last long so look at having 2 x bags an evening. Extra bags for £4 each.
The Village Inn pub just minutes away walking we found was best for pub grub. We also sampled the indian take-away which was good.
The only thing i would of liked to have seen at the site, which some others have, is a fridge/freezer for use of campers. Hopefully as the site develops it may be added.

Thank you for your very positive review. A freezer for use by campers is a great idea and so we have installed one in the Reception Room.

Arrived on a sunday to discover we were the only ones on site, something which if anything I welcomed. The owner showed us to our pitch and was as helpful as you'd like. The pitch itself was both flat and sheltered perfect ideal for pitching. The facilites on site were as follows; 2 showers, 2 toilets, washing up sink, drinking water, electric hook up, 2 undercover picnic areas. One of the showers was cold the other was fine though, something which would be an issue if more people turned up. All facilites were regularly cleaned which is what you would expect. Local area is outstanding both in terms of natural beauty and attractions. Village itself contains 4 pubs including The Village Inn which serves food, staff and locals alike are very welcoming. Indian, Chinese and Chippy takeways are all excellent and the cafe by the beach is handy. Shops include Spar, Co-op, and Post Office, there is a cash machine in the Spar and a HSBC machine next to the Co-op.

We have just spent 2 nights at platt's farm and it was wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. Yes there are bigger and better sites around but if you want the personal touch this is the place to go. You can walk to everything you need...i.e. Chippy, Chinese, Indian, co op, pubs......however if you want something completely different hire their roaster...... We went to the local butchers John Williams ( fantastic and very friendly butchers) told them where we were staying (off the advice of the owners) and we bought possibly one of the best pieces of beef EVER! The owners hooked up the spit roaster, supplied a huge tray to put underneath,we filled it with onions, potatoes, mushrooms and peppers they even supplied a meat thermometer, a table to carve on and anti bacterial to clean up afterwards....as well as the gas and electric...it certainly puts disposable bbq's to shame!!! All I can say is it's a campsite that will be hard to book in the very near future because they really do care about their guests.... Also the fire buckets are great as well.
