The hotel lost my reservation made online and was required to pay full rack rate. No compromise with the management. The hotel was infested with mosquitoes throughout the open air, four floor lobby. The breakfast buffet was very good though the pool area restaurant was very mediocre and over priced. The gym was in poor working order as the machines were in disrepair and unclean. The beach had a wonderful view, but so does the whole coast along that strand of beach. For the price, one would expect better. Oh, the room card stated that if you brought your own adult beverage to the beach area, you would be subject to a $100 (US) fine.

This hotel would not be so bad if they just replaced all of the carpeting, linens and mattresses.
I found the service to be good and the food at the restaurant to be alright.

First when I arrived I was told that I didn't have a room reservation, for which I had paid for entirely already. After some time worrying and waiting, It turned out that they had already given my room to a firend of mine... just because he mentioned my name. No ID checked...my friend's name wasn't on the room!

When I arrived in the room the jacuzzi tub was a filthy mess, and there were plenty of dead insects in it. I also wanted to use an iron so I called the front desk and asked for the tub to be cleaned and for an iron. Three hours later...nothing so we asked again...three more hours...nothing! Then we said that they can either clean the tub in the master suite, or only charge me for a standard room. That got them to come... but still no iron.

Now the iron issue went on for 8 requests over 36 hours. Finally on the ninth time we asked (by then it had long become the running joke of the trip) we were told that we would not be getting an iron, and the previous 8 employees who said that we would were unqualified to make that promise. OK then!

The breakfast buffet was costly, tediously slow, and average quality. Italian food at Joey Bistro was nice!

A note on Beach towels: they are available only from the front desk of the hotel. A couple of times we had to wait in line 10-15 minutes to get one, behind people checking in and out...or asking for an iron? On the Sunday of our stay we waited 10 minutes for towels and were told they had none!

San Carlos was a nice place! I will be trying another hotel next time.

We were pleasantly surprised when we opened our door to a room that was large with a mini-kitchen, and a spectacular view. Other people in our group had rooms with verandas and hot tubs. The bar and restaurant are located at the marina so it is a short walk. It was Valentine's Day and the restaurant was decorated in red and white with hearts. The breakfast buffet was fabulous with a cooked pig, omelet bar, fresh fruit, etc.
Each table had its own coffee pot. The service was excellent for all meals.

We do agree with others who said that the mattress was hard. However, my husband and his bad back liked it. Water was hot and pressure was good in the shower. However, they were stingy with towels.

in summer 2008, I stayed in this hotel that was a disaster, but the location is very good, quiet and retired. We returned a few weeks ago, from the entrance there is a change. Everything is very clean, very friendly staff, most of the rooms are remodeled. Widespread, it changed my opinion with respect to last year. And I hope to return in the summer.

The best thing about the hotel was the restuarant "Joey Bistro". The food and service were both good.

The room itself smelled musty. The bed were hard, but a very thin matress cover helped a little. The furniture was cracking and old. The shower never got hot, but did get warm. The tub had mildew/mold along the edges. And the TV in the room had a poor image.

The pool needs cleaned out and scrubbed.

I think the hotel could be very nice with lots of renovations.

Oh yeah, and one annoying thing, they do not want you to bring in outside food or drink.

Basically, If I had an enemy, I would recommend this hotel to him. I stayed there for 4 nights with my family. The lobby was very nice. It had a small water fall. That made decide to stay here. Big mistake. The room had a very dirty carpet. I had two kids that wanted to watch the TV. The TV was in terrible condition. The image was not clear and it looks like the TV was 20 years old. They had an area with table games: pool, ping pong, and foosball. However none of the games were fully funtional: the pool table didn't have all the balls, the ping pong balls were broken (I requested a new one and they didn't have), etc. They had a jacuzzi in the pool area, but the water was just warm. Besides you needed it to ask to turn on the bubbles. They never kept them on. For the price they charge for their services is not worth the stay.
