From the moment you arrive at L'Otel in San Miguel de Allende you will feel you are at home. The design of the hotel is centered around a personal guest experience, and every architectural feature reinforces that idea. The small open air reception area leads to a simple beautiful courtyard with a fountain and filled with blooming plants. The guest rooms open off of the courtyard, so the ambience of the central patio becomes part of your guest room experience. There is a made-to-order breakfast every morning with choices for every taste and the roof top patios offer you a top-of-the-city experience that is a delight from the morning sunrise to the evening sunset. With only 4 rooms in the hotel, you can form a tight bond with the superior hotel staff and your fellow guests...reinforcing the personal DNA of the anticipated guest experience.

Amazing hotel! Very exclusive place, with only 4 suites. It has a very friendly service, the staff is always available to help you. Best location in San Miguel, just to blocks away from the main church.

HOTEL REVIEW # 205

MY TRAVEL STYLE: If possible, I try to stay away from business hotels and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences.

LOCATION: Perfect. On one of the most quiet streets in Sam Miguel and a 3 minute walk to the center (where you want to be).

BEST WAY TO GET THERE: We used the company the hotel recommends for $85 from Leon airport (one way). Probably could find a source for $10-$15 less but they were reliable in a good car/suv.

TYPE OF ROOM: Jr Suite.

BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed was heavenly with very high quality sheets. Pillow could have been a bit thinner.

LIGHTING: Great. Lots of natural light and adequate lighting at night.

BATHROOM/SHOWER: Great sized bathroom (this was bigger than the other jr suite) and shower had consistently hot water and great pressure.

TOILETRIES: High quality.

CLEANLINESS: Entire hotel, room, and common areas are very clean

A/C: Worked great and quiet.

STYLE OF ROOM: Outstanding. We wanted many of the items in the room for our own house! Stylish and comfortable.

COMMON AREA: Breakfast area is very nice and there is a small room to watch TV relax. The upstairs patio was nice but not a place that made me want to spend time there. The impression upon first entering and seeing the front desk and surrounding area was a bit underwhelming and I initially thought I made the wrong choice with this hotel.

QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: Although no places walking distance to the center are quiet, this hotel is one of the most quiet. Our room was next to the front desk/breakfast room so we could hear a lot of talking and phone ringing in the morning. For those that want a dark room, the skylight will provide plenty of unwanted light in the morning. The other rooms may be better for those that need darkness to sleep in later.

FOOD: Breakfast was good but not great. Waffles tasted like frozen waffles and the French toast was covered in a layer of brown sugar. The pancakes were outstanding. Limited selection of two fresh juices and complimentary coffee (nesspresso for $2.50). Although the staff were very nice, the order was almost always wrong.

TV/INTERNET: Didn’t use the TV but free wifi is throughout property. It was a weak signal in our room.

SERVICE: Although providing us with the wrong orders at breakfast the staff here really go out of their way and are incredibly nice. We asked for bread one morning and they ran to the store to get this for us.

SUMMARY: I really wanted to stay at a small hotel with 5 rooms or less versus the bigger hotels with great common areas. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel, perhaps those are better but for me the small hotel with the great service is better. I liked being the only people at breakfast every morning versus dealing with a buffet and crowds. I almost booked Los Olivios and checked out the rooms there and liked L’Otel better. We saw all the rooms and we liked the owner’s suite the best (only one on the top floor) and is worth a significant upcharge. Our second favorite was our room right by the breakfast area and if you are OK with some noise in the morning it has the largest bathroom and by far the nicest bed (4 poster bed). Book a room here and you will be happy with your decision for sure).

Room Tip: Owner's suite is by far the best. The second best room is by the breakfast room but can be loud in the AM and the sunlight cannot be blocked to help sleep in if desired.

I have to say that the service is way beyond great. The hotel is in a great location, the rooms are just 4 and they are beautiful designed, we stayed at the biggest room and the space is magical. The pictures on TripAdvisor are not the latest of the hotel, we learned they redesigned the hotel at the end of the last year, check the latest pictures at the hotel's website. The jacuzzi at the roof top made every evening very romantic. The breakfast is perfectly cooked and incredible. In summary this might be one of the best hotels I ever visited in my life

Every room, space and detail in the hotel is so exquisitely designed that you feel like royalty, while the service is so attentive and personalized that you feel like at home. Chic, elegant, quiet and cozy, this hotel is a hidden gem.
