Considering myself as a real foodie, and part of a family of fantastic cooks, I can honestly say that an afternoon at Gayle's gets the highest rating. The atmosphere and service are only surpassed by the delicious food. I still have dreams of the steak diane.. It was the best I've ever had. Can't wait until I'm here full time !!!!

La Mansion de Montitlan is one of San Miguel's best kept culinary secrets. When you desire some excellent "gringo" dishes in San Miguel de Allende, join Gayle's private dining club. Access the web site or receive Gayle's weekly emails announcing her menu choices for that week. Her restaurant is only open on Sundays and special holidays, I.e. Thanksgiving and Christmas, so you must make reservations.

Her fried chicken and mashed potatoes, usually offered every Sunday, are "to die for", but every item on the short menu are prepared excellently. Her home is La Mansion de Montitlan, and it like everything she does is with care and perfection. Enjoy the setting, the weather, the atmosphere, her food, and her hospitality. Her restaurant is unique in San Miguel.

Gayle provides jamaica tea and water, and you may bring you own wine, with a corkage fee of $50.00 pesos for the first bottle only.

Gayle offers her home and culinary perfection for private occasions, and of course everything is done to perfection. Email Connie at Cstar3@yahoo.com for information.

Sunday afternoon at Gayle's La Mansion de Montitlan is a real treat. Both Gayle and her food are nothing short of fabulous! Her fried chicken is the best I've ever had but even after saying that it's usually a hard choice to make from her other offerings. The atmosphere is pure San Miguel. Gayle is also open on major holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc) but be sure to make a reservation as she is very popular. It's BYOB with a very reasonable corkage fee of 50 pesos for the first bottle only. My suggestion is that you get on the mailing list to receive the weekly menu. Delicious!

Gayle runs a wonderful place. Food is delicious! You need to make a reservation- she cooks to order so there aren't many portions left. She is only open on Sundays and attracts lots of locals. Her fried chicken and mash potatoes are famous here. Usually she has two, sometimes three, entree selections. You always get a salad or soup and a dessert. With only two selections, you would think it would be an easy choice. Nooo. It all sounds and is great. (My husband always wants me to order the chicken so he can eat my left-overs.). She is located in a quiet, residential area. Very peaceful and great views.

An easily accessible private club, owner/executive chef Gayle and hostess Connie have created an almost secret gem that provides a menu and ambiance that stars among the most elegant restaurants in the world.
I should know. As a food critic for over 3 decades I can testify that never have I found a place where every choice on the menu is perfect. At la Mansion, it is. It is useless to recommend particular items when they are all prepare to perfection. I had to return to Gayle's several times on my San Miguel visits to sample it all. Perfection is the only word I can use. Service and atmosphere match the food. The prices are the only thing not "off the chart".
All in all, La Mansion is the best restaurant, not just in SMA, but in all of Central Mexico. Don't miss it.
