Loved the hacienda, loved the folk art displayed throughout, loved the location and above all, loved the owners, who could not have been more friendly and thoughtful. Of all the B&Bs in all of Mexico, heck, the Americas, this has got to be a nominee for a suitably prestigious award. J & C

Our trip to SMA would not have been nearly as enjoyable if we hadn't selected to stay at Casa de la Cuesta. We arrived late at night on a Friday, and as we have experienced in the past at various B&B's, expected a key to be left for us with, at most, a note of welcoming. What we got was far from it.

Heidi greeted us at the door upon our late arrival and gave us a tour of their amazing property. The welcome glass of wine was very much appreciated as well after a long travel day, as well. After the tour, we settled into our room where a wood-burning fire place awaited us. My mother was ecstatic.

After getting our rest, we awoke and joined the rest of the guests for breakfast. This is where we met Bill. Bill greeted us with a warm hello, and showed us to our seats for breakfast. We are not prone to hyperbole, so when we say these were some of the best breakfast meals we've ever had, you can believe it. You can expect a variation on traditional Mexican Breakfast everyday. That's if you're still hungry after eating the yogurt, fresh fruit, and granola that starts your meal. All of which were delicious.

After breakfast each day, we set out on foot to explore San Miguel. Bill & Heidi gave us great recommendations throughout our stay for places we must see and great restaurants to dine at. In a short trip, good recommendations are key to being an efficient tourist :).

One of the best highlights of our trip, was when Bill took time after breakfast one day to give us a tour of his Mask Museum, La Otra Cara. His passion for his "hobby" of collecting masks from indigenous tribes throughout Mexico was infectious, and made the tour very interesting to us. His collection is impressive, and he gives you the opportunity to purchase masks outside of the museum.

Heidi also took time to show us her Folk Art collection. She supports local artists that support their families through their art work. We purchased a few pieces for our home!

All in all, I couldn't imagine a better experience than staying at Casa de la Cuesta. Highly highly recommended for anyone traveling to San Miguel.

Room Tip: If you happen to be traveling with 3 as we were, my wife & my mother, Escondido is the perfect r...

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa de la Cuesta. From the street, one has no idea of the gorgeous house and courtyard garden that awaits on the inside. The lovely view of San Miguel from our very comfortable and beautifully decorated room was so relaxing, we had to push ourselves to leave each day to see the many great sights the city has to offer. We enjoyed every corner of the house from the fireplace in the dining room adjacent to the amazing kitchen, where we enjoyed a breakfast feast, to the rooftop terrace for a glass of wine at sunset, to the starlit second floor terrace for a nightcap before bed. Everywhere one looks, there are beautiful pieces of art representing the many talented artisans of Mexico. Unfortunately Bill happened to be away during our visit, but we loved chatting with Heidi who gave us great ideas about where to eat and some of the "must see" places to visit. She showed us the artist's gallery/studio where she does workshops, and we were blown away by Bill's private collection of masks that are housed in a museum on the property. This was our first visit to San Miguel Allende and we will definitely return to stay at Casa de la Cuesta.

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic.

A major birthday just inspired me to take a trip to one of those places on my "bucket list". With about 10 days to renew my passport and make plans, I convinced my writer son to join me in San Miguel de Allende. After many hours of internet searching, I decided upon Casa de la Cuesta as our home in San Miguel. And home it was, for 5 wonderful nights. The architecture and decor get you the moment Bill opened the door.

The breakfasts were fabulous, views outstanding from every terrace and the hospitality and concierge service offered the most wonderful and personal care you can get. We took a yoga class, had a massage and took a cooking class given by Bill's personal friends, along with restaurants he recommended and maps to go with each. We did discover a few finds of our own, but were delighted with each of Bill's suggestions. Go to San Miguel and stay at Casa de la Cuesta!

Room Tip: All rooms have private terraces.

What do you do when you have too many Thanksgiving house guests (friends & family) to fit in your home in San Miguel? There is ONLY one correct answer and that is, call Casa de la Cuesta and book rooms.

All of our out of town guests raved and extolled the many virtues of Casa de la Cuesta over and over again. They were so pleased with the breakfasts, the ambiance, their hosts, their rooms, the exquisite details of the B&B, the Mask Museum, and the general vibe of the place. In fact, Casa de la Cuesta is mainly what they talked about over the Thanksgiving meal.

Casa de la Cuesta over-delivered and everyone went home extremely happy.

Most helpful owners/hosts in Bill and Heidi. Excellent breakfasts too.....

The place is very well decorated with Mexican decor. I love the hummingbird masks which adorned our room as well as our entryway. By the way, we were billeted in the 'Colibri' room where you also had a very nice view of the San Miguel panorama, hummingbird feeders just outside the room was exquisite with beautiful hummingbirds.

Homey atmosphere and great place for relaxation after long days sightseeing.

Room Tip: I loved the Colibri but look at their website for room that will suit you the best.

Recently stayed for a week at Casa de la Cuesta!!! It is a wonderful home away from home. Just love everything about it!!! Bill and Heidi were most warm, gracious and attentive hosts. They were like "Parents" to adults like us with their thoughtful, caring help and attention. The house staff were excellent! Daily breakfast was a delightful feast that included a main dish of delicious Mexican fare!!!
And the Casa... it is a Museum in itself. Bill and Heidi's tasteful and artistic touch displays the rich array of Mexican art in all forms throughout the house. Inviting sitting areas with Mexican and antique furniture complement the surroundings!
Every nook and cranny is food for the senses... the courtyard, terraces and restful balconies, the garden with various green and flowering plants, foliage and fruit trees, the outdoor garden decor.. the Hummingbirds ...
We had the Room with the View .. sunset, dawn, Church steeples, colorful rooftops, flocks of birds.. faraway houses dotting San Miguel de Allende's hills..and Folk art, wall art, antiques, fireplace, Colibri masks, comfortable beds, impeccably clean linens.. Love our room!!!

Thank you Bill for our personal tour of the Mask Museum! Learned so much about the use of masks in traditional tribal feasts and rituals. Admire your passion and knowledge. Heidi's Folk art gallery showcases local artists' amazing work.
Thank you Heidi for the crutches.. you are ao gracious! I am still hobbling but well.

I highly recommend for anyone visiting San Miguel de Allende to stay and experience what I described here. The Casa is located up a short hill and a short walk ( slow 10 mins walk ) down a cobblestone street to the main square. Or take a short cab ride if you have trouble walking. Use comfortable shoes!
Lastly, my personal thoughts.. If you are a writer or painter.. or want to rest and relax.. Casa de la Cuesta is a haven..!
For anyone who loves arts in all forms, Casa de la Cuesta is a Testament to Mexico's rich regional art culture and tradition.. thanks to Bill and Heidi's personal touch to showcase them all throughout the casa. Wish Architectural Digest would find out about it!

Room Tip: Colibri Room has a spectacular view of town! It is on the second floor of the 2 story colonial home.
