I had planned to visit the mask museum, but wasn't sure where it was or how to arrange an appointment. One day on a walk we sneaked in an open back door and discovered one of the most interesting museums and two of the most special hosts in the charming city. I introduced myself and we were welcomed without hesitation by the hosts, Bill and Heidi. From there we were oriented to an amazing collection of over 600 very authentic masks from the villages of all of Mexico. A video showed some of the masked dances and festivals from small Mexican villages where the culture of masking is very much alive. We were given an open ended time to explore the displays and then to check out those masks for sale. There is also a section where wonderful folk art is displayed and sold.
Bill and Heidi then invited us to see the adjoining Bed and Breakfast. What a thrill! We arrived just as the sun was setting over the city. The views of SMA were wonderful. We had a chance to see the wonderful Bed and Breakfast rooms in the beautiful building filled with great art and comfortable amenities. I thank Bill and Heidi for their friendly greeting, generous time, and their visions that have created both the museum and the Bed and Breakfast.
