“Nice ruins but cant visit on your own”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2014

About 3 mins from SMA. You have to park at the visitors parking to take the organized tour for 30 MXN. This tour leaved every hour and takes all together 2,5 hrs. By little bus you (and 43 others) are transferred to the site 5 miles up the road and then there follows a 1 KM walk. The guide will take you around the site and explain.

“A MUST on your next visit to SMA...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2014

But only IF you can get a tour with Dr. Coffee who is part of coyote Canyon adventures. They have other excursions too, their canyon for horseback riding looks exquisite.
There can be no better guide for the pyramids than Dr. Coffee. His knowledge, delivery of such and humor were spot-on. Reccommend!

“A Must See on a Trip to SMA”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

If you find yourself in San Miguel de Allende, you must make the trip to see the pyramid and excavations at Cañada de la Virgen with Coyote Canyon Adventures and Professor Albert Coffee. Professor Coffee was part of the team that excavated the ruins, and his knowledge of the area and of Mesoamerica is extensive and fascinating. Be prepared for quite a bit of walking as shuttle vehicles must deposit you well outside of the site. This is a definite plus in my mind as it keeps the area pristine from vehicles, outside vendors, etc. Albert has so much information to impart that he will start on the ride from SMA through the countryside, keep it up on the shuttle ride to the site, then throughout the tour of the site and the trip up the pyramid. Even though he had much to say, we never felt we didn't have an opportunity to ask questions (and he had the answers, of course). The tour is well worth the time and money!

“Very Interesting Archeological Site”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

In San Miguel de Allende recently for a wedding, we were offered this side trip. It was a worthwhile experience. We traveled by van through the Guanajuato countryside to a very remote site. It is on private lands, part of which can not be filmed. There is a rather long walk uphill (paved and gravel/grass) to the actual pyramid so wear good walking shoes. The pyramids are surrounded with a beautiful garden which is where the tour starts. It was a very interesting tour of incredible buildings. We had a large group and everyone seemed very pleased at the end with what they learned. more information can be found at: http://www.sanmiguelguide.com/canada-de-la-virgen/

“Doing the Pyramid tour with Professor Albert Coffee is essential!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014

I can't imagine how very different, and far less enjoyable or educational it would have been had we not engaged the services Archeologist Albert Coffee through Coyote Canyon Adventures for our tour. The park guides can't come close to Albert's encyclopedic knowledge of Mesoamerican Civilization. He personally worked with the team who excavated these fascinating ruins. His humor laced non-stop narrative taught us far more about the history of the pyramids and unique culture of ancient Otomi Indians living in this area than we ever could have hoped for. Our tour today with Albert Coffee is a true HIGH POINT of our trip to enchanting SMA!! Do yourselves a favor and arrange for a tour with him. Be sure to include a true home cooked Mexican luncheon at a quaint ranch house after the tour!! I guarantee you won't be disappointed!!
