We just returned from San Miguel, where we spent a week at Hacienda de las Flores, our fourth or fifth visit to this hotel over the years. We've stayed at many of the nicest hotels and B&B's in San Miguel, and we are convinced this is the best value for money in town.
The hotel is just two blocks from the Jardin (square) and main cathedral at the center of town, but could be a world away. It is a 450 year old hacienda, built around a central flower-covered garden and a mid-size swimming pool.
Our rooms were clean and cool, our bed was the best we've slept in in Mexico, we watched the US election returns on cable TV (but you have to ask at the front desk for a decoder to get CNN and other cable news channels.)
The staff was helpful, breakfasts (included in the room charge) delicious, service at the restaurant and for room needs, prompt.
Over the weekend, a large Mexican wedding party occupied all of the other available rooms at the hotel, and we were invited to watch and participate in the reception.
The American guests at the hotel were uniformly interesting, colorful people. We can't recommend this hotel too highly.
