Once a private home, this museum was an excellent introduction to the history of San Miguel. The exhibits were well organized and had signage in English and Spanish. The furniture in the family rooms was an example of the period.

Visitors to San Miguel de Allende who are interested in the history of the town should definitely make a stop at this museum, housed in the birth home of namesake Ignacio Allende. There's an impressive collection of artifacts and some videos, but it's all in Spanish. At least it was when I last visited, and I was wishing they had translated everything for English-speaking tourists. Still, it's worth a tour, and there's one free day per week (Sunday, I think?). Check at the tourist office on the Jardín (main square).

Extremely well done. We thought this was one of the hidden treasures in San Miguel. The old hacienda on the main square is a relative bargain compared to most of the other attractions in town, and this one is the real deal - a bit of authentic local history presented without embellishment. Would be good if there was a guided tour for English speakers, but even with my basic Spanish language skills I was able to interpret the displays with relative ease.
The Museo is a delightful place for a relaxed meander through an historic home that played a major role in the history of Mexico and San Miguel. Highly Recommended.
