“Overlooks la Plaza Principal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

Fantastically preserved house of General Ignacio Allende, who is considered by some as the father of the Mexican revolution. Classic European floor plan in which family rooms completely surround an open courtyard. Period furniture pieces provide an educational glimpse of how a family in the early 1800's lived. Good exhibits to help consider family life in a time of political upheaval and a class society. A bit more English text might help the non-Spanish literate. Great importance to this residence considering its prominent location on the plaza.

“An interesting museum, but it is useful to read Spanish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

This is an interesting place to visit and there is a lot of information you can read if you take the time. I should point out that most of the information was in Spanish and all the video narratives that you can see and hear in different sections of the museum are also in Spanish. I am a native speaker of Spanish so I did not have any problems and I learned a lot reading the large amount of information available. I am not sure that non-Spanish speakers would have the same experience. Nevertheless the exhibits are well done and it is interesting to see how upper middle class Mexicans lived in those days. The museum is very close to the main church and to el Jardin so you don´t have to go out of your way to visit this attraction.

Any bags or food you bring with you has to remain in the main ticket office. Photos are allowed inside if you pay an extra fee, otherwise you can only take photos in the exterior areas. Nice clean bathrooms on the first floor.

In general it is a nice place to visit, but you will get more out of it if you can read Spanish.

We enjoyed our visit to the Ignacio Allende house. We enjoyed learning about the Mexican revolution and the context it occurred within. Worth the time.
