“Excellent Hotel in a beautiful town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

This hotel is not inexpensive, but we found it well worth the price. We had a large comfortable room in a historic building with a private rooftop deck that included a plunge pool. The pool was unheated, unfortuntely. Would be nicer if it were a hottub. This was a December stay and while the weather was warm enough to enjoy the sun during the day, it is not warm enough, with San Migue's cool nights, to heat the pool water. Great view of the Cathedral from our rooftop deck. The staff were very friendly and the concierge very helpful to us. The hotel is in a great location and an easy walk to just about everywhere in town. Loved the large bathroom with heated tile floors, complimentary espresso machine, free wi-fi, and working gas fireplace in the bedroom. The grounds are well kept and the interior couryards of the various buildings are beautiful. The "terrible" rating on the fitness center below is only because there isn't one--once you check something it wouldn't let me "blank" it out. Didn't try the spa, but they do have one.

We stayed 3 nights at the hotel. Our room was very clean with beautiful furnishings. The bathroom was also clean and well appointed. We enjoyed a spacious, private patio all to ourselves. The hotel overall, is very elegant with excellent service and very good food. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting San Miguel.

Room Tip: El Nido was very private.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel for a business meeting. Pros: good location, friendly staff. Cons: Room looks very old, they pretend that the furniture looks classic, but it rather looks old and dirty, old and uncomfortable mattress. Bathroom the same, broken tiles, old toilet seat, dirty lamps. The terrace is ok, but the "view" is from literally the roof of the room, next to the air conditioning equipment, really improvised. The rate doesn't pay off from what you get. You can easily find a place for the same quality at a lower rate.

San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful, charming colonial town in the middle of Mexico's hearth. It is safe and beautiful. I knew I love the town but once I found Casa Sierra Nevada I loved it more. After looking for different venues for my wedding in San Miguel, I decided to celebrate my special day there. They were the only ones giving us the service and the attention that we needed. For our wedding my husband and I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights with our families. We rented their Casa Parque. Casa Parque is a big hacienda with 5 room, beutiful suites, and amazing gardens. We have our private state for the entire weekend!

Their service was so personalized. Everybody knew our first names, and were so kind.Everybody in town knew about our wedding! The food at their restaurant is amazing and delicious. They have the best tortilla soup and “jugo verde”. The breakfast “IT IS INCLUDED” with the room rate. The beds were super comfortable and on wedding night they surprised us decorating our nuptial suite so beautiful with roses and candles. Every day they took care of my parents bringing them coffee during mornings and calling them to see if they needed anything else. Our wedding was so much fun and every one left with a big smile. Everyone of our guest that stayed in Casa Sierra Nevada was so happy with them and their service. Most important my husband and I had the most amazing experience of our lives!

Yes it is a little more pricy than other places in San Miguel but you pay for the good service, good bed and good food! If you want to experience traditional Mexico with luxury and first class service, please stay with them!

I will go back anytime!

We spent 4 nights at La Terrazas B&B and decided to 'treat' ourselves for our last 3 nights at Sierra Nevada. After one night we are very disappointed and much prefer Las Terrazas. Sierra Nevada is 3X the cost (about US$400 vs US$130) and no breakfast included, no view, and we are next door to a noisy school playground. Coffee maker in the room made awful coffee so we ordered some and that was worse. Had to run out to find coffee at a nearby cafe. I miss my leisurely breakfast in bed listening to the fountain. Instead I am sitting in my clothes drinking takeout coffee listening to screaming school children.

The cooking class with Chef Emanuel Cervantes is a "must-do" for anyone interested in local cuisine. We toured a local market, buying provisions and sampling tamales, atole, cheese, and prickly pear. We stopped at a tortilleria for fresh masa. Then we returned to the beautiful kitchen at Sazon cooking school and made tortillas, sopes con frijoles y chorizo, salsa ranchera, guacamole, rajas con crema, quesadillas con huitlacoche, quesadillas con flor de calabaza, and nopales. After making all of these delicious local specialities, we sat down to a great feast. If you like to cook or eat, this class is a great experience!

From the moment we arrived we felt the warmth of the staff and the ambience of the hotel. Our room (487) was beautiful with a private patio large enough to accomodate a large group. ALL THE STAFF at the hotel were exceptional, the gardens and pool area were magnificent. Only a 5 minute walk to the square with many wonderful bars and restaurants en route.
The food and service at the hotel was excellent - truly 5*. Our friend and butler Gustavo. R was a joy to be around. Thank you Gustavo.R.
Chef Emanuel of the Casa de Sierra Nevada Hotel and the Sazon cooking school was tremendous, we had so much fun and we learned so many tricks to Mexican Cuisine. Well worth the time to partake in the cooking classes.
Thank you so much - you made our holiday.

Room Tip: Try room 487 - large room with a king size bed. Very bright and it has a large private patio.
