“Glass Encased Delight”
Reviewed May 6, 2012

You could easily miss the location without guidance (located inside the Plaza Colonial across from the Bellas Artes) and that would be a shame. A lovely, quaint restaurant serving a full, mixed menu of both Mexican and Continental fare. The owners are on sight and it shows - this restaurant shines from beginning to end. A lovely little courtyard with outside or inside tables reminiscent of a European Bistro. The daily specials are excellent and very reasonable. The desserts include crepes as well as a different assortment of home-made ice cream the way grandma use to do it. A great dining experience from beginning to end!

“Good inexpensive food in the "heart" of San Miguel”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

You can reach this restaurant either from Canal street or Hernandez Macias street. The place is far from being pretencious. As a matter of fact, the owners keep a couple of parrots and some birds in the restaurant and, that circumstance, and the fact that the place is surrounded by all kind of plants and flowers, make you think for a moment that you are having your meal at one of the homes in San Miguel and not precisely at a restaurant.

The owners themselves take care of the tables and that brings the service to a different level. Usually, there is a "comida corrida" and during my visit, this consisted of soup of the day or salad, breaded chicken breast with a touch of rosemary, crepes of "cajeta" and coffee, all for about $14 dollars. The chicken was a bit "dry", though. The Argentinean beef "empanadas ($2.40 dollars) were also very good.

This restaurant is a valid option in historical downtown, particularly when you want to enjoy a full meal at a decent price.

“Great Hedonist location”
Reviewed February 29, 2012

If you enjoy the simple things, great quality food, and know that the pleasure is the only intrinsic good, then eat there. The person who attends there is a chef, living the life she wants, and that gets reflected on the taste of the food, and the way it is decorated. It is inexpensive, the menus haves all what you need to have a great experience. One of the most romantic meals I ever had..

“Inexpensive, tasty comida corrida, from salad to dessert”
Reviewed February 21, 2012

We stopped into this indoor/outdoor cafe La Finestra during the San Miguel Writer´s Conference and were pleasantly surprised by an excellent, knowledgeable waiter (maybe owner) and the multiple choices for each course on the Prix fixe lunch which included a main dish with sides, soup or salad, dessert( yum homemade gelato) AND coffee!

We had a breaded chicken cutlet stuffed with platano macho and just enough of an almond gravy with a touch of tomato. This came with wild rice and mixed vegetables. We had the salad of the day, and each of us tried a different gelato; mine was fresh coconut. Even the coffee was tiptop.

It is within a little commercial center in a picturesque restored building at the corner of Canal and Hernandez Macias. Don´t miss it as it is across the street from Bellas Artes and inside a bit.
